  • What's wrong with landing completely on the balls of your feet? Because I heard the guy saying it will affect your balance; wouldn't your balance get better if you keep doing it? Having good balance is something you should aim to achieve in all possible aspects of sport and life.

  • @JustElijah They said to not land on your toes, but rather on the balls of your feet.

  • @DexterousGamer That isn't what I'm seeing at all; so it doesn't really make a difference what he says, since everyone is more of a visual learner anyway.

  • @JustElijah In the video, he comments not to land on your toes, and not to land on your heels due to stress on your achilles tendon. Therefore, try to land as much on your whole foot as possible, BUT with weight on the ball of the foot.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't depth jumps supposed to also improve your muscle contraction? From what I know, dead landings/shock drop (not bounching up) first off put alot of strain to the legs, and second; since the exercise is made to improve your muscle contraction I believe you're supposed to bounce IMMEDIATELY as soon as you hit the ground with the balls of your feet.

  • @BlacksVideos there is another exercise where you do that. it all depends on how much impact you're willing to take and how high of intensity you want the workout to be. you really want to work into such workouts slowly so that your body is used to taking the impact

  • ohi really need some cure to my loneliness

  • Hi, SuperJump2010, on YouTube, Im jumping 4 & 1/2 feet in the air, amazing over 1000 views

  • not kool

  • but effective ;)

  • You should be able to squat atleast 1.5 times your weight to do plyometrics. Build up your strenght then do plyos..

  • @jaleed I finally upped my squat to 1.5xBW Now i can start adding some medium plyometrics..i am waiting till i get 2.2 to add in depth jumps

  • @145bobby

make sure your form on your squat is good

below parallel and don't bend your back

go low and drive with your hips

deadlift is also a great exercise, its actually fun to do, burns the hamstrings nicely :)

  • @jaleed yea, i always go below ;) I even atg afterwards. I am glad to see someone who knows how to train correctly in these darn comments.(not this vid as much as other vids)

  • the way i do it and i think most people would is that u would jump as high as u can as soon as u land ... anyway this video is terrible

  • thats a different exercise...

  • @Stasy00 agreed... I think this vid is a shock jump / shock drop, not a depth jump (?)

  • thats a different excercise this one is for absorbing shock the one you're talking about is for giving out force. both help alot.

  • @CertifiedPG how many inches in my vert can i expect from this exercise tho ? u know ?

  • @thefuture067 depends on where your plyometric ability is at now. people who already have a good plyometric ability dont get the inchs as quick. but if you've never dont them before or have low plyometric ability then you should expect to gain inches in a week or two

  • okay this is ridiculous

  • do this and when u land jump as quickly as u land

  • um, theres no jump?

  • HEY i have a question does it matter which leg u do it with like drop from or should u alternate legs or just keep it one leg

  • @ asacestt

It doesn't matter which leg you drop from because you will end up landing on both legs anyway. Just drop from whichever one is the most comfortable.

  • oo thx.. i got another question will doing the depth drops the other name for it is called box drop right and will these help with deceleration?

  • This isn't a depth jump. There's no jump.

  • what happens if you bend (flex) your knees more than 90 degrees 0:26?

  • u die with extremly many pain D:<

  • ever tried to jump like that ? you wont realy be able to jump high

  • Comment removed

  • it hurts like crazy

  • Ive been watching and imitating your videos...it does work. how often should do these routine and how many reps?

  • OK, a lot of people who do not high jump at a top level have commented here. So just to clear things, this exercise trains the phase of the jump when the muscle length changes from lengthening to shortening. If you know your biomechanics and force plate date you will understand this is the point at which the muscle is exerting maximum force. Therefore it is useful to get the nervous system to practice this type of contraction.

  • builds elastiscity in ankles to help spring when you jump

  • if anything that would decrease the height of your jump!!!

  • haha xD funny :D

  • Okay, this one is just stupid. I don't see why you would need this for high jump at all.

  • 2 to 3 minute rest?! Its not exactly hard work

  • wrestling shoes are the best things to jump in.... when doing a vertical jump test, wrestling shoes or flat-spikeless track shoes will give best result compared to other shoes.... bare-feet is actually best overall for testing depending on the surface. (These are olympic jumpers-i'm sure they know what they are doing so cool the sarcastic under-tone)

  • this half man half chicken has no usinass doing deptj jumps

  • where is the jump?

  • juz freakin do squats dogg

  • Wow you must be a super trainer. STFU if you don't know what you are talking about. KTHNX Bai!

  • kk im 5,4 and im 162

    176 is roughly about 5,9 5,10

  • how old r u

  • How much is 5,5? 1feet - 33centemeters? i am 176 and i can touch the rim witch is 3meters 5centemeters ... it is standart rim in europe... but how much feet i am ? i am 1meter 76centemeters...

  • 5'9''

  • oh yeah, i'm 6'3" can dunk no problem and not only that i can BALL which is all that matters!! i don 't have to dunk to be good!!

  • oh yeah im 14 5'5'' and can dunk no joke, AND I CAN BALL,

  • about ballin...i'm talking about playing bball for real and dunking for real, not video games kid...lol im messing with ya

  • Ha nice one, i need to use that sometime

  • lol u will b do feces

  • white men can't jump?

  • 5'7 and can dunk a soccer ball

  • im 18 with a 44 inch vertical

  • nah

  • im 14 and 5 foot 8 and i can touch the rim

  • Congratulations, I'm 5'4, 14, and I can dunk a volleyball.

  • i can dunk a basketball now bitch

  • dang man i wish i was u hahahaha im same height a year younger and i can only touch the rim (after warming up and all dat)

  • ya well im 3'6", 5 and can dunk a baseball, dont you guys believe me?...seriously no one cares about what you have to say unless you have proof, so stop talking meaningless shit on the internet

  • im 5'6'' and i can touch the rim and i dont do much vertical training but i want to do some i just dont know which ones work best

  • ok..so I land on my toes every time..and it does not effect my balance to the least..its better to land on the toes...to make a softer impact on the legs and back.

  • plyometrics will get you to jump higher. ima 5'9 that can touch the rim but not yet dunk and been using plyometrics for almost 9 weeks n 9 weeks ago i was nower touching the rim and backboard

  • it takes to much time and results aren't good enough ...

  • wat do u mean? it doesn't yield sustainable n supernormal results? mayb u aren't doin it right?

  • Its said that don't lad on your toes/balls of the feet because it will affect your balance?

  • I you guys want to avoid such misunderstanding you need to let everyone know where you're coming from. There's nothing bad about this video really. It's not stating to be the ultimate way to train, it's just demonstrating a technique.

  • Thanks, someone talking sence....

  • you heels aren't supposed to touch the ground. these are done horribly and will destroy your knees. you ARE supposed to land on your toes/balls of feet.

  • Interesting comment, whats your reasoning for only the toes? I agree the weight and impact definatly should be off the heels. Im focusing on the balls of the feet as this is the area with most control.

  • thats what i meant balls of feet. i must have heard the vid wrong, i thought it was telling you to land on your heels.

  • well i hope no one else heard that wrong and ran outside to jump off their roof...... (me)

  • @rivetingcactus he does indeed say to focus the weight on the balls of the feet....

  • @rivetingcactus He never demonstrated landing on the heels. He clearly said in the video to not land on your heels or toes, but rather to land with your weight on the balls of your feet.

  • @rivetingcactus high jumpers take off of a flat foot

  • this is no good.only for kids.if you wanna do something to help you ober 17 yers try to put a weight on your back

  • Neural-mechanic skills of jumping are not mutually exclusive of weight training, nor weight training necessarily teaches how to absorb the impact of a high amplitude jump.

You are comparing apples and oranges.

  • or just use a medicine ball. hold at chest level and when you explode off the ground raise it above your head. it will help your core strength, your body coils like a spring and unloads. the weight isnt really for leg strength. but after 2-3 sets of 10-12 try 1-2 sets with out it. worked for me. almost like dunking a ten pound basketball

  • I can, snatch over my body weight and clean 150% of it. ok now?

  • Are you gonna film yourself squating 3 times your weight and put in youtube anytime soon? I know people who can squat 3 times their weight and have problems absorbing a jump on their feet. I don't understand the connection you seem to be making on power squating and the neuro-mechanic training of a depth jump.

And LOL @ you calling someone a kid. You are 20 years old for cry out loud.

  • haha...cheetor is a fuckin retard.

  • You have no idea dude. Try it first before you comment. Do it for awhile and see if you still think it's easy. You don't know sh*t. LOL!

  • Nice exercise, I know them as depth drops. One thing though, aren't you supposed to land on your toes? Heel touch should be strictly forbidden with this exercise. Most sport actions that use this stretch reflex are also done on the forefoot.

  • um do u just land? i thought u had to jump after landing, any advice???

  • A work out that generate gravitational impact. That's sick.

  • this is stupid...you dont need a two to three minute rest between landing...I jump off buildings...and I dont need rest after ten or twenty times..its easy to land..and if you take more impact on the legs it not a bad thing

  • it's about the position you hold when you land... ujumping off of buildings is basically falling into a roll. Try jumping off a building and holding that position. What'll happen? you'll end up driving your knee through your skull.

  • You'd definitely collapse no matter how hard you try to absorb it with your legs. The pressure wave would probably travel up through your spine and fracture the base of your skull.

  • ues u do no time to teach but this guy is one of the best on youtube remember most trainers are a fraud.

  • These are excellent videos and more should be produced with the narration and run in a series for full description.

Many new through to advanced jumpers and even sprinters would find these techniques advantageous. Please keep the good work up, we jumpers don't get enough publicity and the younger kids need to learn good techniques for training, it will definitely assist them, thank you.

  • I don't see how this is boring... this sets you up for any scenario. I like how he lands quarter squat and switches fast to ball of feet to whole foot. That just freaking dawned on me! I love this video thanks!! I'll probably need to work on the foot switch speed.. i am a bit sluggish.

  • I should start working on this one. I was good once landing on my feet but latelly I started noticing it actually hurts a bit, the strain is mainly on the knees. Time to start improving my landing.

  • Thank you, I will implement this techinique in my training.

  • Oi! you bums think thats easy, yes it is, but ok, don't wana do it? go out and land a 3 meter drop because you need to, without damaging yourself.

martial arts/parkour/frerunning/stunts all need THIS to be mastered before you could do ANYTING.

    so get going..

  • Well said nomandd, this is a very important technique. i built up to 1.80m drops like this with a 6kg weight vest. But this is risky as you can easilt have achillies problems if the load is to much on the heels. JUST BE CAERFULL EVERY ONE AND LOOK AFTER YOUR BODY - IT HAS TO LAST A MANY YEARS!

  • this is WHY i do crazy parkour free running trains u up !! and its fun instead of boring traning... and its FREE

  • this is a depth drop

    the foundation for all plyometrics

  • I think there's a few names out there for it, I call it a depth drop.

  • hi Simon

firstly, thanks for the very good descriptive videos. as far as i know, "depth jump" is landing+jumping upward. what you demonstrate is "shock jump". i'm probably not as knowledgeable as you so this may be wrong. but i just want to share this.

    we're waiting more videos...

  • this is easy!

  • i've seen people jump insanely high and far from beginning with the depth jump.

  • this is the basis of thet, this exercise needs to be mastered before rebounding. im making move vids on this showing jumping to a higher box and jumping for length. its very important to get the initial landing correct so the ground contact is good before jumping. depth jumping to a static landing is a lot of work for the legs and bones as the force is absorbed rather than released in a jump. this is a basic exersice that must be done right if you want to progress well.

  • I thought your suppose to jump quickly after you land - people who want to do this should jump after they land - give good leg condtioning aswell as impact !

  • Not much of an exercise!
