South Island east coast you need 4/3 with booties in winter, and summer boardies is good

All surf footage was taken at Wainui beach Gisborne, NZ - shot in front of Teddy Colberts place over the course of around a year. Band are local Wainui boys "Big Water" which is what Wainui means.....

cold! I didn't surf wainui but most places in nz you'll need a 4/3 or 3/2 for everything except mid summer.

cold as bro need a 4/3 and hood etc in winter. i live there and ive never surfed it like that.

Its not too cold, depending on what you are used to. For most places all you should need is a 4/3mm wettie.

South Island usually need a wetsuit all year, but in the north, boardies are all good for summer.

@Jin1Eye north island up is fine from end december to april, board shorts and a vest. after that turns into 3/2 then you will need a 4/3 in winter with booties
