i lived in iceland from 1990 to 1994 my dad was stationed there with 56 rqs chief master sergeant stephen a smith i was in 4th grade when we moved there and in 7th going on 8th grade when we left. it was the greatest place ive ever lived ton of fun memories. deadmans hill, we lived in tree housing then bird housing , . i miss those hotdogs at that taxi stand next to at mahan elementry. miss watching movies at the little movie theater and swimming at the gym .great times. taking my kids some day
i was here from 83-87 from the ages of 8-12 and i have never been anywhere more amazing in my life, and i traveled quite a bit growing up. I dream of getting to go back one day, if anyone has a few THOUSAND dollars for the flight and hotel they can loan me, i would appreciate it :)
I lived there for 17 years and never got graduate I miss home so much :( anyway remember me just add me I want to talk to all of my old friend. Jason Marino
Tears, yeah...stationed at Kef with the 57th FIS from 3/91 to 3/93 - just revisited old photo albums with pix of our son at the 'Little Auk, Bird Housing' bus stop for his first day of K'Garden. That housing was brand new in '91 -- lived on the 2nd floor of Auk 2, center unit. Fantastic vid & music to close out A.T. Mahan's long run.
this video brought me to tears. i miss my old home 00-04. a.t. mahan had a since of family that you dont find in most high schools. Long Live the Vikings!!!
Well, I didn't go to school there... but I was part of the crew that stayed til the last day the base was open! I absolutely loved Iceland! Was a tragedy they closed that base! =(
Gosh I miss this place so much. I left int he 6th grade, but im sure everyone can agree with me, that once youve lived there its a memorie you will never forget. Im so sad they tore it down. It was the best base ive ever lived at!! I love you iceland!!
Hello, well I can tell you that they did not tear it down. The base was only closed down. A.T. Mahan will from this winter (2008-9) become the new house for a university that they started back in 2007 but was housed in the old chapel. But as I said it will move acrosss the street this august.

I went to the old school and this school when it first opened, back in 1971. The faces changed, but it was still relate-able.
Iceland is missing this base now.
