  • Its quite a sad video. My mammy always got our stuff from Paddys, always good things, the place was a life saver when I was pregnant and on my own, I got lots of things for my wee baby and me.

  • Another part of the east end gone, prob wont be much longer until The Barras is flantend and turned into university flats.

  • Happy days great memos miss the place i feel like i lost a family member...R.I.P.Briggit the Great !!!

  • That's like shutting a whole pub because one guy is drunk and disorderly. Wrong move by City Chambers.

  • @ProfessorSmilesDiary Agree well said my friend..

  • what are all these poor old soles now supposed to do for a living, what is your government offering ....pensions unemployment poverty low self esteem dispare then what comes substance abuse crime anti social be haviour.....isnt this what ur now creating more of,we live in australia and are discusted you are contemplating destroying 200 yrs of history, when we barely have 200yrs of history.drugs will always find a home, close paddys doors its for ever...............

  • im so sorry i loved the market,,, bought ma gv for years from the jolly market,, but you could get everything there , sorry traders drugs were easy to get and drink and tobaco, junkies only came to the market to get there fix,, dont smoke no more but do i wish the market was still there,,, yey course i do, bring it back and leave the drugs

  • Glasgows housin estates are crime filled middens but do you see them getting shut down, or investment, no because there no money or Political prestige in that. Why not pick on the people at the bottom rung of society , kicking a dog when its down , its just so f******g easy for them.

  • Sadly, Paddy's began to die through the late 80's & the 90's...what with antique dealers, stolen goods & cash'n'carry goods which Paddy's Market or the Briggait as i knew it as, was never about...& without doubt, in more recent years, bootleg booze, fags, tobacco & drugs...Very very sad to see its demise.

  • It is a shame and a disgrace

  • The guy with the dog now hangs outside Mono.

  • all of my family worked down paddys I visited my uncle whom is in this clip he is lost without it also my auntie who is a hawker as well feels the same such a shame as they dont know what else to do,I myself stay in england its such a shame that the council have done this to my heritage

  • Paddys market was an institution in Glasgow and it was sad to see it go. Men in suits that have no understanding of its social significance. It ddin't encourage crime , It stopped it.

  • those pathetic commonwealth games r giving us the sports facilities our kids have been needing for years

  • aye, but being used as an excuse to destory history. we can have both. don't be sold on the lie that sports facilities for kids means taking from the poor to give to the poor!!!

  • Those people that couldn't sell anywhere else or make a living by getting a job could find a way to make a living without sponging on the state. If it was a crime ridden midden, why didn't they raid it and stop it. They don't tackle crime in the housing estates but because it is unsightly next the law courts that wanted it shut down,

  • Are the council stupid? There are drug users all over the city, if there are a few hanging about the paddy's market then those particular ones will simply go elsewhere.

  • Ah wonder what a blood test of the people who shop at Camden Market would reveal..........

  • Oh Camden no longer exists in its loved shape or form. You must be thinking back to the years pre-crafts (by crafts I mean, lawyers/architects/stockbrokers who make a fucking stained glassed window on a weekend, or a drop earring out of stones they buy from Turkey, and try to sell it in order to get rid of the guilt complex they have about ripping off the poor and who want to appear like they are organic or moral in some way) when you could go and get something worth having, made by craftsmen.

  • I find your comments regarding lawyers, and even architects&stockbrokers quite offensive!! Do you know how much study and hours are put in to get the qualifications of these professions? Did you know there are lawyers and even law students who work pro-bono or volunteer their time dedicated to ensuring that no one is disadvantaged in the eyes of the law just because of their economic status! Do you know how complex some cases can be? Have you ever read judgments that can span thousands of pages?

  • A lot of lawyers do not work only for the money! If you have met good&dedicated lawyers in your lifetime, you would see their passion in upholding justice&rights of EVERY individual-rich or poor, guilty or not guilty-as everyone deserves a fair trial and due process! Do not make a generalisation as you have done, based on a few encounters that you may have had!If you don't think that lawyers/architects/stockbrokers are worth what that ask for, how about you try doing the job yourself! Cheaper?

  • Don't close Paddys Market thats where I get ma blues and I got a Kappa trackie down there for 2.50 the other day.

  • more to do with cleaning up the image of glasgow for the "pathetic" commonwealth games!
