  • I read my mums women magazines and most of them are like Cosmo. Cosmo is one of the worst, however. But I love complaining about magazines and she's witty enough to let me and have discussions about what's in the magazine. I do feel like I would never be really into a magazine like that... all the stuff about fashion (I already know what I like), make-up (mascara and lipstick, that's it), diet (just eat normal, right?) and celebrities (who?) is not interesting to me. However, I love reviews...

  • GOATS. O.o -3

  • I had a similar argument with my friend this morning. He said he saw a man get off the train this morning and give his girlfriend a bunch of flowers, to which I replied 'aww, there's still a place for romance in this world'. He then argued that it was 'only because he wanted a blow job' and that it was a 'romantic gesture that required a treat in return'. Erm, that invalidates a romantic gesture, no? Anyway, I ended the argument by telling him that is why he is still single. Go Lex!

  • I don't think all of them were defending guys' rights to harass women; they were just saying is that guys have somewhat similar situations with girls. I don't know how accurate or inaccurate that is, but that how I interpreted it.

  • you're so pretty in this video and i agree with the point that the magazine is making so many self contradictions its not true !

  • You, Lex, are wonderful. That is all.

  • Love it.

  • 'Go away. Unsubscribe now. Never come back.' And that is why we love you so much, Lex.

  • telling people to unsubscribe earned my sub.

  • Telling the misogynists to go away earned an immediate subscribe from me. Where have you been all my life?

  • i hate to say this, but for the fact that it is true...Cosmopolitan Ragazine was founded and edited by a self-described Uber-Feminist of the 1960's-70's...Helen Gurley Brown. So it actually is a magazine intended to set all those poor oppressed down-trodden females FREE---free at last! i'm free at last!!

  • @MargaritasAntesPorco Did she die then? Because it's sure changed now.

  • You are beautifully sceptical. Don't ever stop questioning and refusing to accept the sneak suppression of women!

  • oh lex you are an icon

    much love

  • jersey shore haha

  • Strictly...for the kiddies -_-

  • I only read Cosmopolitan so I can point out their ridiculousness in my blog.

  • This didn't show up in my sub box!

  • I hate it when people talk about how women 'need to take control', I don't see any losing control :3

  • Does anyone else want to know more on said goat?

  • Bonus Sex Jeannies loool... omg you should do this more often ... lmao

    °Sara°

  • Lex, you are one of the funniest youtubers I see.

  • i like goats

  • Yay women!

  • Fanbloodytastic!

  • that was really funny!

  • Lex, you gave me courage to get out of bed this morning. Thanks. :)

  • I did an english assignment on the harassment of women and used a lot of videos your last one to get an idea of how most women would feel about it. Some of the comments made me sick. There was a group of 13 year old girls who were making videos about their experiences with harassment and one of the commenter went on a long rant about how they needed to have 'a healthy view of their femininity and it's place in the world'- which apparently means letting men do whatever they like.

  • I like you.

  • I like you.

  • LEX, I've just somehow managed to come across my account and saw you, after reminiscing the other day about our random meeting at Watford!..Hope all is well with you! Eoin (Guy against racism except the dutch)

  • Love the ending on that. Well said lex. (:

  • i <3 you lex :3

  • Love how lex just states the truth and doesn't give a fuck, If that's how she feels then she says it..more people should be like that and stop trying to portray something the are not :)

  • "So girls settle. Find someone that you don't hate"

    You should watch the

Mitchell and Webb - Best man wedding speech

    on Youtube

  • everything about this video, i just like everything

  • i am a man, but yes i totally agree with this video and i hate sexist magazines and shit! however there are some parts that are totally acceptable becasue if it were the other way around and there was an artical about how to impress woman with stuff and it was 100% true, then i think men would be straight there. so don't let non sexists articals feel like there sexist because pages aroud them are!

great vid by the way :) <3

  • Seriously this is EXACTLY what I think when I see magazines like Cosmo. I made a collage from about 3 or 4 Cosmos in my hallway about body image because the whole thing just portrays women in one dimension.

  • Impressing guys with your face... and your boobs. Lovely.

  • cosmo has learned what sells to their demographic......who cares?

  • Some guys are pigs and some girls are shallow, and yes it sucks that we have to live in the world with both of them but theres really no use in complaining about it.

  • @TheEvilCommenter Wow, you're so right. It's a good thing Martin Luther King Jr accepted the world he lived in and didn't try to change anything. So glad that annoying Aung San Suu Kyi never spoke up for the people of Burma or anything, what would that have accomplished?

  • You are such a good role model for girls :)

  • As much as I completely agree with a lot of your points, Lex, I read Cosmo as an escapist thing, with a pinch of salt. It's a guilty pleasure (like watching Made in Chelsea, or something equally as terrible). That said, I'm sensible enough to be able to distinguish between the bullshit, and I don't diet, so their articles about that are lost on me.

I challenge you to find me a non-specialist magazine aimed at late teens/mid-20s women that doesn't have something about sex/body image in it.

  • @shpwing FRANKIE! ... Would that be right? I mean it's not really aimed at them, but it makes up, probably, a lot of its demographic.

  • well, to be honest, awhile ago a woman wolf-whistled at me while i was out running. Didn't bother me...but i guess its different for guys.

how would Lex feel about being harrassed by lesbians....probably the same(meaning negative) i suppose

  • I looked at cosmo in the shop... their 4 sex wishes were fucking ridiculous. They are so patronising and just generally shit, I am glad I've stopped worshiping the magazine the way I did when I was 15.

  • i love this video! nicely done.

  • Comment removed

  • It is never okay to harass anyone and making sexist comments does not make you clever or funny, it just makes you look and sound stupid.

  • if sopa take over the world, this video would be burned :(

  • I am a professional harasser. And I am really offended. Most of my female clients are very glad about being harassed, that what they booked me for in the first place. So next time a man harasses you, just check if he is a professional, that may have taken you for the wrong girl. He probably wanted to harass his client. We always wear badges to identifiy ourselves.

  • About a month ago I was walking down Kilburn Highroad on my own and a (I'm guessing) 20-30 year old man whistled at me and said he'd want to 'pop my cherry' to one of his mates. I'd never been harassed like that before an I was so surprised at how sad and ashamed it made me feel. I walked away quickly and began to cry. It was a really horrible experience. I'm only 13. If you think it's ok to do that to any women, let alone a young teenager, you are so unbelievably wrong and stupid. It's not fun

  • Are you balding / loosing hair? Too much hairdye??

  • Comment removed

  • I love you for sticking up for women. I too love not being harassed.

  • yeah, cosmo is ridiculously self-contradictory - the first (and last) issue I ever read had an article by a REAL LIFE MAN urging women not to be fake: no fake tans, boobs, extensions etc. the next page was an article advocating fake tans. SO STRANGE.

  • I sometimes look in those magazines in waiting rooms at the doctor's and dentist's and so on. I must say they usually make me want to vomit all over the place.

Also, I like that you told the bastards to unsubscribe. You've got balls. Or, well, ovaries...

  • Lex you are badass, and amazing. Make my day so much better. Thank you!!!

  • I love you. No one ever deserves to be harassed. Also people suck <3

  • AMEN!

  • I love your videos :)

  • @starkidforlife822 i heard english is useless in portugal so i don't care about how good i am at it (i bet that if you tried to speak my language you would do really worse than me given the fact i didn't studied it at school)

how can a whistle be considered sexual harassment?!

explain it to me and i will give you the reason you deserve but if you just keep on with the HERP DERP it's wrong DERP HERP bullshit i won't give a crap about what you say

  • @broodgrillo a whistle can be considered sexual harassment because guys whistle at women in the street to imply that they find them sexually attractive, and weirdly enough some women don't like having their sexual attractiveness commented on by strangers in public. some women feel harassed by this, therefore it's harassment. you seem like quite an awful person, stop saying hateful things to my other commenters or I'll block you.

  • I love this video. Thanks for dissecting a blatantly backwards publication.

  • Enjoyable to listen. Thanks.

  • Or start a band together.

  • I wish we could hang out.

  • You are very inspiring, thank you for this.

  • This was wonderful. Thanks.

  • what was the debate about? with the whole 'not being harrased' thing

  • GO LEX!! <3

  • Adore this video. We always talk about how women shouldn't be objectified or whatever and then magazines like Cosmo just go and undermine us in every single way possible. They teach us that our ultimate aims in life are to be stick thin and please men. It's sickening, and it's great to know that people like you are willing to stand up for what is right.

  • I love you. thank you.

  • I really like your videos, you're very straight forward. That is what I hope to be too. Because I don't want to be one of the women in Cosmo only talking about losing weight, shopping and how I can get the attention of men.

  • This video is true, I tend to avoid all magazines due to them being biased in nearly every opinion they have.

  • i love this video. love it.

  • Cosmopolitan is written by women for women and most of it seemed to be about how women can get men to pay them attention.I'm not condoning it but sort of shows why some stupid men don't know where to draw the line.

  • Not to sound like a a-hole, but if you wanted an interview about musicians and music why not pick up a magazine related to music? The article sounds like a personal interview with a musician rather than about her craft. Also, why does it have to be sexist just because it is sexual? Maybe I'm missing some context here, but I think you're just nitpicking. That said, I watch these because I loved that next-up song you did!

  • @mikemurko my point was that Pixie Lott is famous for her music; that's why she's admired by some, and that's what she's built a career on. if people are interviewing her because she's famous, and she became famous in that field, surely they should mention her career at least ONCE rather than asking an endless stream of questions actually about the men in her life and not really at all about her.

  • @tyrannosauruslexxx I understand, just offering a different point of view ... plus I mean there's GOT to be some lonely soul who wants to know what Pixie Lott's favourite sex toy is? How else would cosmopolitan still be on the shelves?

Btw who is the Pixie and whot is her lott? Famous in Britain? Or is Canada too cold and I don't get out enough?

  • From the title, I thought it would be Nuts or Zoo or something. Phew.

  • Nicely put! I just love your values, you rock!

  • Now I understand why my mom never let me read Cosmopolitan. Because I would probably end up depressed with a lack of confidence and a terrible image of myself. Sorry if this offends anyone who reads Cosmopolitan magazine, but it's my opinion, so really it shouldn't.

  • i want your sarcasm!

  • You pretty much just said loads of stuff I have been telling people for years and some look at me like I am insane. Thank you for making me feel less insane. :)

Also go you for being awesome and sticking up for yourself and other women.

  • Women aren't just for sex: As Lex pointed out there is more to women than that. Talk to a female, and don't harrass them!

  • I don't believe in the objectification of women as sexual objects. They are real people with real feelings, so harrassing them isn't going to increase you chances!

  • Hah, oh I bought Girlfriend magazine the other day JUST because I needed a small poster to fill a gap on my wall. Didn't get any decent posters. Did, however, get nice, curvy models. One of them even had those little creases around her ribs from where the 'fat' rolls when you sit down. I was very pleased. They were in bikinis and they looked beautiful.

On the topic of men and 'harrassment'. Men can check a girl out, sure. I catch myself checking out both men and women. But don't harrass! X_X

  • "Bonus sex genies" I literally laughed out loud at that one. :-D

  • Be the alpha female! By making sure you BOW TO YOUR PARTNER'S EVERY WHIM.

  • Eat better food. You mean... like a diet...?

  • @allbymysmelf no is like, with out junk food

  • @allbymysmelf like don't only eat cake?

  • @allbymysmelf urgh no, eating better food as a lifestyle change, diets don't stick, eating healthy foods in general

  • @AllThatFrickingJas A diet is defined as the food you eat, that simple. Therefore 'eating better food ' would still be a diet of sorts. And with the current prices of 'health fooods' would be arguably harder to follow.

  • I really enjoy cosmopolitan, it's a guilty pleasure of mine, but I hate their covers, and you always have to read it with a pinch of salt.

  • I showed my male friend that issue of Cosmo, his replu? "That's not a sex wish; I'd be terrified if some girl did that to me!"

  • I cant believe there could be any debate going on about harassment. It's not like there is a grey area harassment is wrong and it's unbearable to think that some people would want to justify it. Thank you for standing up to the sexist buttheads.

  • Great video! Also, we both watch Jersey Shore for the same reason. Yeeeeey for women!

  • Perrrrrfect !!

  • i didn't defend men in anyway i'm just against everyone that bitches about every single thing

i didn't defend men or women nor did i defend harassment but you should think a bit over the issue before saying "I was harassed" because that is a serious thing to say --'

  • @broodgrillo 'harassedpast participle, past tense of ha·rass (Verb)

    Verb:

Subject to aggressive pressure or intimidation.

Make repeated small-scale attacks on (an enemy).' When a bunch of guys start cat-calling you it is intimidating when you're alone and they're in a group.

  • @MissWolvesandRoses i'm sorry for being born on Portugal

and you went to a dictionary to make fun of me so you trolled yourself

as the dictionary you went to look on said "repeated small-scale attacks"

repeated isn't 2 or 3 times because repeated means OVER AND OVER AGAIN

not 2 or 3 comments but a dozen of them at least

and a comment is not a "small-scale attack on my opinion

  • @broodgrillo I don't know what Portugal has to do with this? I was referring to the first part of the definition, 'subject to aggressive pressure or intimidation,' it is intimidating. Also looking up something on an online dictionary is hardly hard work and I like to make sure when I debate something I have the facts.

  • @MissWolvesandRoses i made fun of your idiotic thoughts because you need a dictionary to make your point a valid point

if you need this you shouldn't be involved in a debate nor should you try to make part of one

if you are trying to speak to someone you should speak by yourself not some dictionary lol

  • @broodgrillo the girl you're arguing with doesn't "need" a dictionary to make a valid point. you asked about the definition of harassment, and she provided an explanation using the most obvious source, an online dictionary. you also apparently need to attack aspects of her comment absolutely nothing to do with the issue at hand to make a "valid point", so I wouldn't be gloating about your own debating skills right now if I were you.

  • @tyrannosauruslexxx i'm not trying to be hateful i just gave my opinion and two girls thought it was funny to destroy my opinion by simply saying it is wrong and not giving a reason to support their own

which part of this can be considered hateful?

if you feel bad for being whistled at ignore it because i hate when people kill animals just to eat or when i see man spending their time and money at a pub and women working hard on their homes but i don't complain about it

  • @tyrannosauruslexxx in my opinion there is nothing wrong in whistling or making stupid or sexist comments

if you look at it from the right sides it is funny but if you only look from the "RAPIST" side of course you will feel harassed

they made fun of me but i was the one who made hateful comments

  • @broodgrillo okay, I'm sorry, but everything that you're saying is not only ridiculous but it's actually kind of harmful. you're saying that girls bring the feeling of harassment upon themselves by looking at it from 'the "RAPIST" side'? I'm going to block you now, because all you're doing is being hateful and upsetting other people in my comments by mindlessly insulting them.

  • @broodgrillo Did you think that sentence through before posting it? "There is nothing wrong in whistling or making stupid or sexist comments." Except that whistling at women and making sexist comments is, well, sexist, and sexism is totally NOT OKAY.

You can make as many stupid comments as you want. It's not my reputation.

  • @broodgrillo That's the difference between you and me: you are trying to make fun of me. I was trying to have a discussion with you, at no point have I attempted to make fun of you in any of this. You said it wasn't harassment so I provided a dictionary definition to argue it was, because that's what I like to do, use facts to support an argument. It's never been about you personally and making it about me personally just weakens your argument.

  • looooololololol "I don't like being harassed" just made me choke on my oatmeal. STOP HARASSING ME, OATMEAL!

  • 3:09 Schadenfreude

  • Yeah, fuck social discrimination!

  • 69th video. And half the time shes talking about a magazine which talks about sex O.O Coincidence?

  • Great video! You should just go to town and rip cosmo apart (metaphorically speaking, though literally would also be amusing) one week.

I didn't comment last time (mainly because it didn't seem like a big deal) but I agree with you about the harassment. I'm a guy and I can understand that it isn't a nice thing to do. Why is it even being debated?

  • This was amazing!

  • @KevGStoneESQ I really hope you're trolling because that is pretty damn patronizing.

  • I did just write something long and deep and meaningful but instead I say YAY LEX!!! WOOOOOO! :'D This video was amazing.

  • while im at it...would just like to point out that i definitely did not, nor would ever, defend boorish sweaty male baboons who whistle and generally harrass young ladies. Lex is correct on this one. I can honestly say i have NEVER personally done this....and wouldn't tolerate it in other males. Unless of course the women in question are whores...j/k. Listen men, Lex is right...don't do that shiet....its not cool. its not ok. Only italians do that stuff....

  • @MargaritasAntesPorco You're lucky I actually agree that italian men do this..

I was going to debate that, but then I remembered "Oh wait.. That actually happened. A lot."

I don't know if I should feel depressed by this, since a lot of them are so damned good looking..

    Probably.

  • I really enjoyed this video! I don't know what else to say besides I really enjoyed it because...I did (:

  • You should read popular science!

Cosmo is a waste of time.

  • I like how you make fun of this magazine and how you don't read it regularly. It's nice to know that there are other people like me out there :)

  • Lex, i love everything you have to say about Cosmo. Your insights are a necessary voice in a world of negative imagery forced on women!

  • I gave up on Cosmo when they told me "5 facts about the ipad that you can impress men with"

Because the only reason to know things is to impress men, right?

  • 10 people need to go away, unsubscribe now, and never come back again.

  • @PG1497 no. you need to stop using stale memes, and also accept that some people's opinion differ

  • *gag Scientology pre-roll. ew!

  • I really like your face. not to be werid. but I've seen you in other videos, but you face looks really nice in this video.

that was really awkward, i could've just written make-up, but that would be lying.

  • To the pathetic male internet virgins who are bitter that Megan Fox isn't into fat, pimply gamers: It's not women's fault that you have chosen to be complete losers..women are NOT here for your amusement, just because a woman dresses nice doesn't give you the right to eye-fuck her, and f your mother raised you correctly you wouldn't have such misconceptions about the female gender to begin with

  • I just love your outfit! Also, I think you're brave to put forth these issues on your channel - they're important and need to be talked about. Soooo...thanks.

  • Love you and this video! Fuck the haters*

  • Love you and this video! Fucks

  • She's a musician but she's also a woman, SHE HAS HOPES AND DREAMS, SHE'S NOT JUST A PIECE OF MUSIC!

  • Comment removed

  • I think the men they interview are fictional and it is geared to make our entire gender look stupid

  • @NickRVernon Except, people who normally buy those magazines aren't really thinking, "Men are stupid." They're thinking, "That's what men like? Oh god, I should try to be that." So really it's more to enforce gender roles or ideas.

  • Wait, so "I don't like being harassed" is a debatable subject?

  • @13thforswarn Welcome to YouTube.

  • Comment removed

  • I hate Cosmo so much just for the sex sections. I think those magazines in general go against my way of thinking that sex is not everything and that doing things just for "your man" seems a little off to me. I dunno, I'll just go read Time instead. :p

  • Loved this! But I can't believe making those comments in your last video made you a target for sexist pigs. That's horrifying. I hope you don't let it get to you.

  • I loved this video.Very refreshing to see someone fully standing up for their opinions, especially when those opinions challenge gender stereotypes that so many people I know conform to out of a feeling of necessity.

  • One of the best videos on your channel I think Lex! Really interesting points about what the magazine featured, looking forward to the next video :)

  • I'm not going to get involved in the debate. Women should have the same rights as men. Nothing more to it.

What I will say though, is Lex- Will you please do a tutorial on your other channel on what eye palette you used, & how you achieved your eye make up in this video? I really like it.

  • It confuses me how Cosmo always has "new sex tips". I mean seriously, how many different innovative sex tips can there be? And who has the job of figuring them all out? Is there someone whose job it is to watch porn as research?

  • If I buy a guy nice things then does he owe me lots of sex?

  • Posted video response of me reading Daily Mirror. BASICALLY the same except less sex and more wanting to kill myself and everyone who reads the Daily Mirror. Loved the video Lex, really enjoying your content recently!

  • i hope this doesn't sound horrible, but i just love being a white male...I honestly can't remember a single instance where i was genuinely offended about something directed towards my identity. Also, Lex you seem very motivated in these last couple videos, they're really good(usually are, but you know what i mean)

  • "Go away. Unsubscribe. Never come back. Thank you." Say it sista.

  • I love your cynicism, I hate amgazines like that but it looks like a good laugh in a way. This was a really enjoyable video Lex :) oh, and you looked really pretty in this as well <3 keep on being awesome :D

  • So I don't really get why people mock you on Sarcaschicks and the like - you are a fantastic youtuber! So don't let it get you down! These NYR videos have been fantastic - it's been entertaining watching you like go out with this goal set and work to acheive it with the discussion along the way - seems to be a good format! Shame it only lasts for January really! :P

Also, I am completely with you on the whole harrassment thing. People defeneding men harrassing women are fools.

  • ahhh so good to hear this kind of thing slated in an actually intelligent way. nice to hear the cynical voice of reason. you're videos are great when they're ballsy

  • Feminism was okay when it started. If women are still arguing about feminism today, then it's ridiculous, at least in countries like Canada and the U.S., where there is equal opportunity.

There are still issues with feminism and how some women think though... for example, that one news story where the women chopped off her husbands 'area'. I remember that a lot of women were like, "yeah!" and "Good for her!". That is completely ridiculous as well as stupid.

  • @KeusFrench (con'td part 2)

Of course we males argued that the whole thing was stupid and that the woman was completely insane as well as moronic and definitely 100% in the wrong.

The thing that has taken me aback is the hypocrisy of some feminists/women. How could they possibly say "yeah!" to a scenario like that? It's disgusting.

If a man was to chop a women's breasts off, it'd be considered horrible to a woman, and other males too. Yet it's okay for a woman to mutilate her husband??

  • @KeusFrench I don't know why you're ranting about feminism but, in any case, you are sadly ignorant and misinformed. Feminism is NOT women saying 'yeah' and 'good on him' when a woman cuts her cheating partners penis off. Feminism is NOT women hating men. Seriously, read PROPER feminist essays by Julia Kristeva, Helen Cixous and Adrienne Rich and then come back to me and tell me it's not a good thing.

  • @annaclare88 Actually regardless of what the actual by the book definition, a lot of women view it was women's rights, women beating men, women winning at this, and that, etc. For some women it has turned into a struggle against men, as if they feel the need to be better than men.

Like I said, it WAS a good thing beforehand - when it was needed. Btw your stats are failing to include women who have BETTER jobs then men. And as a reminder, not ALL women earn 77%. Lot's make equal.

  • @KeusFrench Actually you are wrong. There is not equal opportunity in the U.S and Canada for women. As of 2010, women were still earning only 77% of what men were working for doing the same amount of work. That decreases to 68% for African American women and down to a shocking 58& for Latinas. And that is just one of the ways that women do not get the same opportunities and privileges as men even now. I can list more if you so wish.

  • I'd like to stick up for women. IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.

(I mean I'd like to eradicate discri
