  • I am not positive but I believe the seal on the Copeland also helps protect the compressor in the event liquid refrigerant enters the compressor. Thanks for the excellent video!

  • Great video. Keep it coming.

  • I have a question. Do you know how many cubic feet of air per minute these displace?

  • Can you tell me where to get a VFD at a good price, all that I have found are very expensive ?

    Thanks

    Great video.

  • @MCFD1127 I can only suggest Ebay, I don't know of any places in the US that sell them :(

but they are generally pricy units!

  • how r u gettin the variable speed out of it?

  • @local614bro I am using a 2Hp 3 phase VFD

  • the motors inside these must be pretty powerful?

  • Sounds like a moped scooter o.o

  • Aint the "smoking" one running the wrong direction ?

  • @TheElectricnoob nah it would not blow oil vapor out the discharge if it was.

  • @TheElectricnoob

All scrolls are sposed to discharge through the top center port. That's the way they can work efficiently.

  • Are all Carrier systems made in Korea? I have 2 5 ton Infinity hybrid systems... been good for the last 3 years. But much money.

  • interesting. ye should try seting fire to the oil mist :D

  • @V8Jagnut Yes, definitely, but preferably outside the shed.

  • @V8Jagnut

    "I Want Flames!" xD

  • @V8Jagnut Haha, I thought of that too. An open-top scroll compressor with a fat flame thrower shooting out of the top of it. :-D Definitely an 'outside job' though.

Who needs a propane patio heater when you've got a flame-throwing scroll compressor? :-D

Yeah, that would be nice......Especially if the compressor was going to the scrap bin anyway. May as well get some flame-shooting fun out of it while it still runs. Crank it up on the VFD and watch the FLAMES!

    {^_^} BoomBoxDeluxe {^_^}

  • looks like one of my girl friends toys :)

  • so the one on the left is the best one to use as aircomperessor pump becuse it can start at high psi better then the one on the right that kool to no ed

  • Very nice demo. The ST one is a very effective oil mist machine. lol. Time to turn the fan on. xD I think you need a special extractor fan, like the one Photonic recently built.

  • i love the sound of it, sound slike a peacefull engine ^_^

  • hey aussie, i think i took apart the same copepland scroll the other week! I'll try to get a vid of it running as an air motor :)

  • The oil vapor is also coating your A/C evaporator coils, your PC and other electronics internals as well.

  • @reggieobe98 yeh its like the burnt plastic, gasoline, engine oil and diesel smoke that regularly floods this workshop :D

the PC's don't mind and the AC coil cleaner does a wondrous job of removing oily diesel engine soot from AC coils :D

  • @Aussie50 Kinda looks like a smoky gas engine

  • Pretty common in CRAC (Computer Room Air-Conditioner) units. I've seen 1,2 and 3 compressor units in operation.

  • I thought Daewoo went bust? Maybe it was just the car division...

What PSI can you get from one of those small compressors?

  • @locouk daewoo cars got bought up by GMH and still make cars under the Holden name in AUS, as far as electronics and appliances go, I have no idea. but these Daewoo-carrier AC units were horribly built at the factory. no less than 4 leaky solder joints, and horridly sloppy ones at that.

  • @Aussie50 you say the carrier compressors were crappily built? I have a carrier unit outside and it is !@#$%^& LOUD! it rattles just like that first compressor you had with the loose parts in it.

  • @MrGerbilBrain its not a carrier comp, the Scroll Technologies comps are really good, but the rest of the unit is crap if its made by Daewoo.

still sounds like your comp is on its way out tho!

  • @Aussie50 honestly it has been noisy like that for years! I don't have a clue as to what type of compressor it is though

  • @MrGerbilBrain if its been doing it for years it could be a loose casing panel vibrating, I have fixed a few noisy units simply by lining the mating surfaces of the sheet metal with self-adhesive foam strips.

  • Looks & sounded like an exhaust, Should try feeding smoke into the suction :)

  • That won't last long, LOL

  • Be careful breathing the oil . I believe divers have to be very wary of that when using compressors for air supply as it does very nasty things to a person.

Would be cool to hold a blow torch over it but and light the vapor up!

  • @glumpy10 yeh I avoided most of the oil. not the worst thing I have breathed in tho (foundry leaded bronze smoke is real nasty)
