If he'd been crew, he would have been fired. I've worked on ships for years and it is very unusual for someone to get away with missing the ship. Most of the crew probably just thought it was funny. There's not any real hurry as most of the destinations are close enough together that it doesn't matter. The ship makes more money when they are puttering around at sea and the guests are spending money on-board.

Loved this....So funny, when one of the guests on our cruise ship missed departure in Antigua the other ships were playing YMCA on th loud speakers as the couple ran towards the ships, everyone was laughing and clapping all in good humour as the speed boat had to collect them and they were hauled up the side of the ship it was so so funny...

When I go on a cruise, I am PETRIFIED about possibly being left behind, although most cruises won't until absolutely necessary. I'm usually back on the ship 2 hours before check in time. There's no way I want to be running toward the ship while dozens of people are hooting and hollering at me!

@wisegirl Lighten up. At least it was just one ship playing with him. My wife and I were on Carnival and Royal Carribean was docked opposite. As the ships were getting ready to Leave St Martine' s one couple almost didn, t make it. So two ships had a rant and hoot going. It was all in fun. The Carnival waited. Do you think that the rest of us 2000 plus passengers were mad that we were delayed. Hell no. Glad it wasn' t one of us. It' s all in fun. Take a cruise and enjoy.

Nearly happened to me on the ferry from Limmasol to Piraeus. We were supposed to have an hour in Rhodes but at 55 minutes they were starting to pull up the last gangplank. Could have been very awkward as my car was on the ship. Not funny at all. The worst part was yet to come. At Piraeus it took half a day to get off the ship. Several different queues for Immigration, Port Tax, and Customs. (Vehicles had to be recorded in peoples passports) Dockyard gates were then locked for lunch! Grrr!

I've been on Royal and Carnival, and I prefer the larger rooms on Carnival. Also, the balconies can connect to your neighbor's, making one huge balcony which is cool when traveling with friends.

I just got back form my Carnival Sensation cruise for my 2nd time on the sensation and my 3rd time to the nassau buhums it was fun but it ticked me off i wanted alonger cruise. NOT ENOUGH TIME AT THE PORTS AT ALL! if it says 7-5 pm by the time you get off the boat its 745 and you have to be back on the boat 30 min b 4 they leave! too much travel time , it sucks! they dont allow you to bring and booz(i pour my rum into spring water bottles) cause they want you to spend 8 bucks drinking their watered down drinks~!

He had slipped on the tour bus steps where we stopped to get a "panoramic" photo of our ship. He couldn't walk, The bus went on, My dad was the last man on,carried on, he had broken his femur. Hate to think of those jeering drunks, shame on you for thinking these are Americans having fun!!!!!!!!!! No wonder the Brits hate us. And yes most of them do.
