  • I like your video. When it is put together with the song, it shows how desperate us sinners can be when we are separated from God. They're beautiful. :)

  • such beauty....i love it

  • For my friend chemistry teacher DANCSI ISTVAN from Unirea College Targu Mures Romania who fed up with the system got a step NEARER TO YOU .......

Dear God may his soul rest in peace !

  • Um..yeaaah I don't mind the burning music part in the beginnig, but the picturesss are , a little too depressing

  • Last song before quit RMS Titanic.

  • this song makes me cry everytime i get my heart broken or i just feel down i listen to this and doing that gets me buy

  • I like the soundtrack, but the pics are just plain creepy

  • i love playing this song on my violin my parents cry everytime i play it though

  • The song is so beautiful.

  • a beautiful piece of music, no matter what it symbolises. Classical music for me symbolises a more cultured and elegant time. When true beauty in art was appreciated.

  • i see alot of people commenting on how anybody thinking this is satanic are idiots, but i don't see any comments calling this satanic. I personally like the video and love the song.

  • TOP super TOP!!!

  • Fantastic - from all Christian - get a life those of you who constantly judge others.................

  • hoy mas que nunca, solo quiero estar mas cerca deDios y que a su vez el se acuerde de mi,algun dia,y me permita tener la paz que tanto anhelo,y estar con mi familia en un rincon cerca del cielo

  • This Music is so good. "sniff"

  • SO WHAT IF THE PICS ARE GOTHIC!? Gothic is not satanic, for heaven's sake...

  • I mean no disrespect but

"I formally apologize if this video offends any of my brothers or sisters in Christ and I hope you can forgive me, God already has."

how can you be sure he has forgiven you?

  • Anyone who gets offended are to be honest idiots. Like muppets who complain about tv and stuff. If you don't like anything use a little common sense and turn it off or over. It's awsome.

  • shadowwolf, do you have any idea who exactly is performing/composing this track??? its exactly the version I've been looking for - slow tempo, somber violin & cello, even some off-sheet flourishes thrown in there - tormentingly beautiful!

  • There is nothing wrong with this video. You had nothing to apologise for. I think it's quite lovely.

  • Well, I like this vid - shows great freedom of expression!

  • so sad.

  • Comment removed

  • -_- i finally fond it. thanks ^.^

  • i loved the pictures, thought this video was amazing. thank you!!

  • i want this song played at my funeral

  • A wonderful song!

First I heared it in the movie "Titanic"

    Its very tragic,sad and moving.

"Though like the wanderer the sun gone down

Darkness be over me,my rest a stone

Yet in my dreams I would be, nearer my God to Thee,

Nearer my God to Thee, nearer to Thee"

    Kind Greetings from Germany

  • What version of the song is this?

  • 14 people are radical right wing idiots

  • titanic me hiso llorar mucho y considero qe es la pelucula mejor del mundo qe an echo

  • This was the last song the band played as the Titanic sank... :(

  • @ThinkFox such a good song, I put a little hand down my pants when I hear it

  • @ThinkFox they should have played" Smack my Bitch Up" by the Prodigy. It would have been a lot more poignant

  • i love this song.

  • I liked this. And I'm a Christian!

  • No such thing.

  • Seeing how this song was written by a Unitarian and not a Bible believing Christian, the Goth pictures are as good as any.

  • I dont understand what all the pictures of psychotic woman have to do with a beautiful song like this...

  • Shadowwolf, today I thought of the music as titanic let go of life and I found your arrangement. Watching the gothic pictures I thought with beauty comes uglyness, with love comes hate, with good comes evil. I must say with my thoughts of the titanic and for what it did to ships ride today the similiarities are amazing.

    Thank you

  • In my country people's salaries have just been reduced. I dedicate this song to all simple people who feel disappointed and frustrated by this situation.......................

  • My relative John Wesley Woodward played Cello in the ship's band his body was never recovered and my family has never had any closure.I think this was a nice tribute and since he was my relative what I think is what matters.C. W.

  • just listen 2 the song! if u dnt like the pics then dont watch the vid!

  • I would like to have this played at my funeral some day after I'm gone.

  • I don't understand why anybody would find this offensive.

  • I'm a Christan,I'm actaully a preacher's daughter, but like my mother,I've always liked these pictures,I love their dresses and long flowing hair...lol and this is my favorite song ever and I love this video!

  • Amazing piece, great pictures.. very.. like, emotional? If that makes sense? Not In a bad way lol

  • My mom saud this was Satanic/Devilish but I love it. Art w/ Music tell a story. I'm a christian too and not offended at all. Still Very Creatively Done. Thumbs Up.

  • how can you not love such song :( it's simply amazing yet very sad ♥

  • dont worry dude im a christian myself. god probably thinks this is well done and an entertaining piece of art. youll probably get a pat on the back when you get up there and him saying good job you made a good point in it.

  • Hi Shadowwolf- I totally understand your interpretation here. The pictures are showing beauty, yet raw tragedy and desperation. Is that not when those who are lost turn to God- in the depths of dispair? There is nothing to forgive! You did an incredible job! Blessings to you.

  • I agree with you.

  • @CaptainsRose Yeah, what she said!!!

  • Shadowwolf: I have always enjoyed listening to this arrangement that you were good enough to post. Perhaps, someday you call tell us the connection to Chase Masters. Best regards.

  • Chase Masters was a past boyfriend and this was our song. I'm not with him anymore and I'm engaged to another, but I've kept the video up because of it's popularity. I'm glad you enjoy it :)

  • im hispanic but i love this song so much i play it all the time brings me memories my granpa love this song too he past away 7 yrs ago and this song reminds me of him he told me i was his favorite grandson 2 weeks b4 he died. :-(

  • Hi Shadowolf, I understand, from reading your posts, that you regret some of the more disturbing aspects of this work. However, realize that there are probably many people who have seen your video, who might never have thought about their beliefs in any deep way. What kind of faith is that?

Art is not about safe things. It's about challenging the emotions of the viewer (and maybe even the aritst) . Don't feel sorry for this video. I think you've done a very great service to me, and to others.

  • This song touch my feelings!! to many peoples died for nothing! let change something!

  • i love this

  • si ce daca este emo ????..are suflet in ea melodia asta !!!..nu ca tine...sa ma obligi sa ma insor.......

  • @bucurdragos cum sa fie frate emo?melodia asta e mult prea veche sa fie considerata EMO | ellababriela ai numai rahat in cap !!!

  • Whenever we suffer we got nearer to HIM..........

  • o muzica si videoclip EMO".........

  • It has a very macabre sound to it. Quite sad indeed.

  • This is a beautiful song, but what do the sad, gloomy, creepy looking girls have to do with it?

  • this song is so great!

    awesome

  • hello sister in Christ. This is a beautiful song, I like it very much. thank you

  • This is beautiful, beautiful songs, beautiful artwork. Your God can go get stuffed if you think he doesn't like these kind of pictures.

  • As always, the song is a beautiful classic. It's reverent...the pictures, however-so chaotic and crazy. Poor lost souls. Interesting that the artist is trying to mix confusion with light.

  • This is song is a masterpiece... unfortunately its christian =/

  • Was für ein wunderbares Lied...

  • Who the hell could be offended by this video?

  • @razieldumas Um ,I think the bloody, cut up person picture could be taken for exactly what it is, awful. Just saying. Of course the song is beautiful and stuff, but the pictures, um lots of them are kinda weird and gross. Just saying.

  • I agree, it is pretty morbid. But at the time of making the video, I liked morbid stuff. I apologized that you were grossed out.

  • Wow. Thanks.

  • not all people are christian and i don't understand why you're criticising the pictures. this is an utterly beautiful piece of music, i'm an atheist myself but i get shivers when i listen to it. you came to this video to hear the music, to get lost in it and maybe feel closer to your god, you didn't come in hopes that the pictures would correlate.

so please don't start another silly argument on a youtube video about something irrelevant. (: xox

  • is everything alright with your video, I'm sure that there is not nothing bad or not correct with your video.

I love GOD and I love Jesus and I find that your video does not contain nothing wrong . . .

and remember the name of GOD : JEHOVAH

    Nearer My Jehovah To Thee

  • I love God too.

Can you please type in clear and complete sentences. myself and some others don't understand what you are trying to say precisely.

    Thanks.

  • Shut up, man. You're making an idiot of yourself.

  • Beautiful song... Beautiful pictures... Beautiful video!!!

  • Over all new songs, elvis, MJ, Linkin park.... this... from XIX.. can take the number 1 on my list..........

  • I actually like this version with the gothic pictures, it gives the piece a slighly different context. It's all in how you interpret the music I guess.

I'm not a Christian myself, but I still think the melody is one of the most beautiful ever written.

  • only a stupid man or blinded fanatic would care for some fucking picturec, when the music is so perfect. faith...just like drug - giving you pleasure and safe feeling but poisoning your mind as well. I gues that's not caused by Christ, the church and its bloody methods made people "believe" like that... sad, how something what should be hope, love and toleration can change immediately into its antipode

  • Huh?

  • Thank you for the magic music- it is absolutely WONDERFUL.

  • Esto es grandioso, es una sonido que llega al fondo de tus sentidos. es un espectaculo y las imajenes estan muy sobrias.

  • I am not a Christian, but i do not need to be one to know that this is very beautiful song :)

  • This is very absolute favorite version of this magnificent hymn. I first heard this version as part of a Titanic tribute video, which is sadly no longer available. For quite some time now I have been searching for this particular song to no avail. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for uploading it and beseech you not to allow the Youtube powers-that-be to remove it.

  • ...wow, I'm very glad I read the info that you provided. Or else I would have been confused out of my mind by the pictures hahaha

    great song!

  • Scheiss Kellerkinder ( shit zero-staff-Kid´s)

  • I am not a big fan of Christian beliefs, or those of ANY organized religion, for that matter. BUT! There are a few things I like about Christianity, and that is the beautiful music and artwork that it has inspired. I really love this song, and I love your compilation.

  • Correction: "including the beautiful music"

  • Bah, I keep thinking of things after I post. From what album did you get this version of the song? I have a hard time finding it, and I think it's the most beautiful version of it.

  • I actually got the download from LimeWire, but I don't recomend it. I got a ton of virus from it on my old computer. I'm sure it's on the Titanic Movie soundtrack.

  • Same here- they have some bloody good songs dont they? And great buildings. Pity about the bad bits like their texts and beliefs. This is one of my fav songs but by god (excuse the pun) do i deplore theology!

  • to jest piękne . ..

  • the photographs are very beautiful.

  • You really have no reason to apologize. It's not your fault people have such thin skin no matter what the religion. I thought this was a great compilation.

  • how about all of the FANATIC Christians be quiet (no offense to Christians)

a little tolerance towards other ideas and views wouldn't hurt, that's exactly why we have wars and all that propaganda. Huge lack of tolerance in the world

  • you know what they say: God wants faithful fruit, not religious nuts. LOL. just kidding, JUST KIDDING! LOL. great vid

  • LOL totally agreed!

  • Don't delete this. Anyone who finds this offenssive is not very open minded.

  • Shadowwolf, I understand that you've somewht rejected your video, and I respect your view. However, I still think it's an impressive artistic achievement. You shouldn't apologise. One of the purposes of art is to evoke feelings that the viewer or listener might otherwise want to avoid. Art does not necessarily have to be subversive, of course, but I tend to reject art works intended to simply create a pleasant, normative effect. By contrast, this video is emotionally deep and complex. Good!

  • I'm a devoted Christian and find this OK

    actually kind of spooky- neat

Don't take everything so seriously man

  • Bunch or religious nutcases this is a beautiful version. Better than the traditional version in my opinion. Keep your opinions to yourself and I will keep mine. This isn't a forum on religion this is a video dedicated to a beautiful song, not your god, not to yourself, but to an amazing remake of this song. Let the hate mail roll in :) Make my day :D

  • If you dont mind me asking, Who is Chase Masters?

  • I have found Christ! He is my Savior forever!! Please understand that I don't particularly like this video either and I totally agree with you. I would delete it if I could, but I can't because of it's popularity. And I respect you on your forwardness about your oppinion. It is very bold and I don't seem many bold Christians these days. God bless you and keep you! Again, I am very sorry.

  • Shadowwolf, I have to disagree with misthotos. The hymn is about yearning for closeness with God. The pictures show people who long for something they cannot even name; they reflect perfectly the state of our world. The combination of the gothic pictures and this glorious hymn portends for me the eventual union of God and his lost people. Someday, through Him, we will transcend our sorrow and loneliness. I don't think you need to apologize at all.

  • Please. Christianity invented the Gothic aesthetic. Augustus Pugin, the architect of many churches in the Victorian period as well as the palace where the British Parliament meets today (and Big Ben), argued that Gothic was the only truly Christian form of architecture because it pointed eyes and souls to heaven. The best thing we Christians can do is embrace our roots.

Also, when compared to Gregorian chant and Renaissance polyphony, this hymn is really modern.

  • No, the roots of the "Gothic aesthetic" as you call it, are NOT in Christianity. They are from the Thyatiran period of church history in which the Bible was "chained to the altar", so to speak. this period was otherwise known as The Dark Ages. The thyatiran period was overwhelmingly Unchristian, so it is no great surprise that the Gothic aesthetic emerged during this period.

  • That is your opinion. The "dark ages", if there is any such thing, is best applied to the period between 400 and 800. Gothic arose in the High Middle Ages in the 12th-13th century.

In the age before the invention of the printing press, Bibles were very expensive as they were all copied by hand, and valuable because of their craftsmanship, so they had to be chained to a desk (not the altar) in order to prevent theft. It's similar to how phonebooks are chained to phone booths.

  • No. The dark ages, or Thyatiran period was from about 500-1500 (study your Bible) in which the Catholic church (with it's considerable power and influence) kept the Bible from the people, hence, they were kept "In the Dark".

  • Seriously. Yeah, its an old baptist hymn, but this is from the movie. Jeez.

  • This song gives a certain dignity when confronting death....I wish I would pass away on this hymn....

  • Me Too.....

  • I think GOth chicks are so hot..

  • Beautiful violin=)

  • Beautiful Music and great video! Love the pics!

  • I know that it is an old hymn, but the song file was taken from the Titanic Soundtrack.

  • umm its on the movie so.......

  • He said the song file was taken from the movie, he didn't say the movie created it.

    Lord, please help this man.

  • i love gothic and this music.....

  • Titanic ♥

  • Anyone else immediately notice these girls eyes? Like they're pretty and everything but their eyes really stand out.

    Just my take :)

  • This video is so emotionally stunning , and on so many different levels, that it's impossible to describe. It was a stroke of artistic brilliance to combine these very disturbing gothic works with this hymn. Your work expresses feelings that go far beyond those evoked by the sinking of a ship or the destruction of a town (as with the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, in which "Nearer My God to Thee" was sung by survivors). This is a very great video.

  • I have no connection to titanic other then stories from my grampa and how glad he was to have not sailed on it when he came to America. When all the adults were talking and we had to be quiet what sticks out in my mind is that boat where all those big shots "got it"

  • From what I have heard, there were many more folk of humble stock that 'got it', than did the big shots. The sad fact is people from all sides of life died tragically.

  • I do not disagree with you. I am only recounting the first time hearing about the titanic and opinions of my peasant stock family.

  • the saddest ald also the most beautiful sng ever...my great great uncle was there..rip to all whose burried the ocean..

  • thankyou...... my great grandmother was on board titanic, she died in the water. i am also goth and htese pics are sweet

  • Not even a goth and I love these pics :)

  • Comment removed

  • wtf where did that come from?

  • idk dat wuz random

  • oh leave it out.

  • Please don't sully this song with him :)

  • this song is sad

  • I love the pictures and the music too - very touching ! 5* - if you like - take a look at my own cover versions of this song - best wishes !

  • I'm goth and these girls are Sick! I'd date any of them!

  • as i look at the world i can not beleive in god,but this does not make me a bad person,an able to enjoy this song on the violin.dont say sorry for the picturres,i think you have to look at it differant and not as a shallow god fearing person.love it watch it at least once a week.

  • Makes me cry everytime!

    I love it so much!

  • Beautiful vid. I like your unconventional approach. I'm also a Christian and to me the pictures convey the sorrow of losing Eden (the bloody apple was brilliant!) and the agony of being separated from God. The images and the song come together as a haunting lament and seem to call out to Him. Well done and congrats on your new faith.

  • I like fairy tales too

  • There's a reason we like them. We're all searching for something and they resonate with us. My friend, I hope you find what you are looking for. <3

  • very nice done - please also take a look at my choir and strings version of this song - thank you - (and please rate and comment on it )

  • What an interesting dichotomy between the images and song. I shall never hear this hymn the same way again.

  • I think of this song when i'm sad, (especially suicidal at times)

  • you should get some meds for that

  • <3 Titanic... Beautiful song...

  • these pictures hurt my feling's ) ; but i do apologyce to shadow she does not have the fault that she did not know abboat cristianity i do apologyce

  • your pictures have nothing to do with this religious song! why would you do that??

  • Back when I made this video, I was not a Christian (I am now) and I only liked the song because it sounded pretty. I now realize that the pictures I put to this song are inaccurate, and yes, a little satanic. I'm now planning on making another video with the same song, but with more accurate pictures. I apologize if I offended you or anyone else with my choice of pictures. That's my explanation.

  • It was my sister who reacted on your video, I had never seen it before! But I'll tell her you didn't do it to hurt anyone's feelings! But I'll show it to her anyway...

  • Thank you shadow wolf, nice one buddy !!

  • the song is beauful but the pictures arr very satanic!

  • they're not satanic, they're gothic. not the same, rest assured lol.

  • beautiful

  • who is chase masters

  • IM TRYING TO LEARN THIS ON VIOLIN
