Even before Brokeback Mountain, I've heard stories about male love between cowboys in history books. This song just corroborates the legacy. I love it.
Okay, I don't get this song. Willie Hugh Nelson,. the Ambassador to Weedville, was born in Abbott, TX in 1933 and is 5' 6". He sounds taller. He's been married 4x and divorced 3x with 7 kids. I guess he's not queer. I don't think he'd have gotten this recorded 40-50 years ago. Do you?
The song is offensive as hell. Fondness and feelings between men is "falling between the sexes"? "the feminine"? letting "a lady slip out"? Are people just ignoring these lines? Or do they actually believe all homosexual men are less of men? That the song is associated with Brokeback Mountain is disturbing: The movie is about love between two masculine men. To call that love "a lady slipping out" is a slander. The song is really a cut at machismo using homophobia--anti-man and anti-homosexual.
@androkyle he didn't say "inside every gay cowboy there's a lady waiting to slip out." but "inside EVERY cowboy." and in every lady there's a deep manly voice. i took it as less "gay guys are more feminine then straight ones" and more "gender isn't as clear cut as people like to think."
I just learned that Willie didn't write this song. The writer is Ned Sublette and the song is 30 years old. But Willie liked it and decided to sing it.. Way to go, Willie.

Never thought I'd say this but....F*CK WILLIE...cant beleive he's this liberal...sober up for a minute Willie and realize what ur saying with this record! PLEASE
Well, Republicans (who represent the Wealthy) get there support from rednecks and Christians by saying they are against the gays (which they are not), so everyone gets government working against our best interests.
love the song. I work at a rodeo (a regualr "straight" one, but I know many cowboys and riders that have always been willing to at least "diddle" in it.
"Cowboys Are Secretly, Frequently (Fond Of Each Other)" was written in 1981 by Texas-born, NYC resident musician/songwriter Ned Sublette, long before gay cowboys were the current topic of conversation. Nelson recorded the song last year during an iTunes Originals session at his Perdernales, TX studio. This is the first time Nelson's version has been released.
I know this was recorded well before mid 2006. First time I heard this song was on the radio in 2005 not long before Brokeback came out. Which is why it was played. Both because its a really good song that happens to be funny and the subject matter bing similar to that movie.
What a great song (and I'm not gay or a cowboy). What I love most about it is the uptight reactions it has to get from uptight assholes. "Cowboys" are ridiculous, and they deserve to be mocked.
I love this song. XD Kehehe, stupid radio stations don't know what they're missing--or, rather, who they're missing. Willie's a frikkin' god of country, and if he wants to sing the gay cowboy song, he can damn well sing it! Hehe. :)
video sux, music, perfect

That's funny! Willie can do a sequel to this by just inserting Republican Congressmen & T-Baggers in the place of Cow Boys. LOL

As always, he sings the truth. Every western bar I've ever been to has been gay...
...of course I wouldn't have gone to them if they weren't. :)
Happy 420 Willie.
