Too bad there was so much turmoil in the family and don't think it was the missing documents in the house that caused senior to pull the trigger--there was pent up anger for ages between the father/son and alot of dysfunction and this was the last straw--too bad really a young talented man gone

  • What's cool about this song is that even if you've never personally "heard it through the grapevine" you can TOTALLY identify with and understand the feelings being expressed. It's a testament to Marvin's bullseye performance--lot's of other performances sound much like his, but none have the real heart and emotional truth he conveys.

  • The California Raisins campaign...classic!

  • I got hooked on Soul music while serving aborad my ship off the coast of Nam--1970-my ship the USS -Shangrila--CVA 38-was nicked named the African Queen at that time because of the high population of Afro-Americans on board at that time.I made a lot of friends with in that group-and started listening to Mo-Town-been hooked since.

  • Don't you guys think that this is unfair?

A lot of singers' songs that have been voice edited and completely useless get few hundred million views while this pure talent gets only 6 million views.

like this status so that people will know it.

  • No Thank You--Mr .Slapshot-it's too bad people could not be more supportive for us back then--it would have made coming home much easier for us all.I love the way the country treats our Military today--Live and learn.

  • This is why I'm fucking happy to have black people around me. Great people, great singers, and racist shitheads can go fuck themselves because this song makes me cry. Whites can't match this style, & coming from an Irishman, these lads can touch your heart as good as folk singers.

  • i came here cos of gerran howell

  • If I remember correctly, there is an extended version of this (or am I mistaken about this).

  • What is the original version?

  • this song is called the great vine. my nan told me that they used it to explain a telephone pole.

  • @bobsmore98 Of course 'heard it through the grapevine' is best known to us as the Motown song, recorded by Gladys Knight & the Pips in 1967 and by Marvin Gaye in 1968. It's salutary that, whilst the telegraph is long gone, the person-to-person communication that preceded it is still going strong.

  • @bobsmore98 So gossip!

  • This was my ex-boyfriend's favorite song. Cause it really is, not only a great song, but a masterpiece. Still.. I find it ironic how much it means to me & how much I love it now.

  • This was my ex-boyfriend's favorite song. Cause it really is a masterpiece, not only a great song. I find it ironic how much it means to me & how much I love it now.
