To make the battle with Dark Bahamut a lot easier, after casting Curaja on everyone, have Rosa cast Dispel on Dark Bahamut and he'll do nothing but cast Reflect every turn if you keep casting Dispel. He can also be poisoned, but Rydia has to cast it right away.

Dark Bahamut is easy. All you have to do is be a level high enough to have (preferably) everyone survive mega flare. Then it's just using high caliber attacks and keeping your health up.

Wow, I just now did this part and my battle with him was so epic. Went through lots of deaths and revivals but he got me pretty bad after a while and I had Rosa and Rydia left with low health. He killed Rosa and I thought that was it. Rydia had 11 HP and beat him with Sylph. Amazing. =)

Casting magic on Dark Bahamut causes him to use Mega Flare. Keep with physical attacks and he shouldn't use Mega Flare except as his opening attack.

The first time I ever played FF4 was the PS1 version, and since I hated level grinding I got to Dark Bahamut at level 43.

Dark Bahamut counters all of Rydia's summons with Mega Flare which is why you got hit with it so much. Also, a person's magic evasion stat can cause a spell to fizzle it. The calculation is based the combined total of your Wisdom and Will, so more than likely those fizzled Flares were targeting Rydia or Rosa.
