Aha I'm in grade 5 right now and I started when I was 16! I'm nowhere as good asthis haha...only on my right leg, they can do both!! :O

They are not in 5th grade as in an American elementary school. They are in the 5th grade of the Vaganova Academy in Russia. They start in the 1st ballet grade at the Vaganova Academy at the age of 10 or 11, so the girls in this video are 15 - 16 years old. Many people who see these videos make the same mistake! :)

Wow. They are all amazing... at such a young age! What I noticed the most was their turnout... and general flexible. It was all PERFECT!

haha my school teaches vaganova and i totally reconize this stuff. but im not nearly as good as them.

yes everyone can be jealous aobut their amazing arabesques and their amazing extensions but remember ballet is more than extensions just watch maya plisetskya a gorgeous dancer with a 90degrees battement at le second watch her at don quixote and doesnt matter she looks amazing and with lots of bravura. any way watching ballerinas with amazing extensions is of another world just what happens with zakharova or seminova.

wow, this is just amazing. It kinda makes me feel worthless. (i'm a dancer) but it is also inspiring. Does anyone else think that the girl second from the left is the best. My eye was just draw to her. Geez, these girls are good.

i don't know if she is necessarily any better than the others but she can lift her leg higher than the others!

i also certainly feel very inferior as a dancer!!!

a russian friend of mine is studiyng at the bolshoi ballet academy now. she had auditions at vaganova and she was accepted. but she didnt go to study there. she said the girls were laid on the barre with their backs and the teachers would just "break" them and the girls were crying in pain when they were stretched upto their range of motion....

wow... as crazy as that sounds, i believe you... i also dont like vaganova school, because they are slightly prejudice... they have let a few americans join, but none are black or hispanic they take russian+white, end of story, and they are very old fashioned.

duhhh wit hthe cuban part... its weird becuz a lot of russian countries are kinda near or in asia.

and cubans had a longterm relationship with bolshoi, NOT vaganova ballet academy.

i see your point but they do take many asian students and a few american very limited at that but still it is one academy and long standing traditions are hardly broken. In general the russian and chinese especialy are a lot more intense with childrens training when they are young which plays a big part. And think of alvin ailey, they dont let any white people in to the company and even though that sucks they have their reasons and their reasons are ligitement.

umm...i'm not saying they have to be skinny but the dance is like a work out and it burns alot of fat thats why there skinny an not many ballet or vagonava students (like myself) are fat
