In a way, they did. NYC subsidiary Boston and Albany Railroad ordered twenty J-2 class, ten of them from Lima Locomotive Works (all other NYC Hudsons were built by Alco’s Schenectady works).
great one. (I agree that hillby muisc would probably be out of place with NYC.) Just luv seeing those old engineers driving those huge machines. When did the last steam loco run ? Thanx.
i grew up along the NYC not far from the East Syracuse yard.i still remember that day when as kids we stood along the tracks and saw only diesels roll by....the end of steam had come without any fanfare..a sad day for us kids. where we lived the trains were still building up steam coming out of the yard pulling trains that seemed to be 100's of cars long sometimes with locos in the middle.....what great memories
Both NYC & PRR were not the most fan conscious. No T1, no 2-10-4, no Niagara, no J1, J2, OR J3. ALSO, no Baldwin Sharks, no Alco PAs, or FAs, and no NYC E7s OR E8s. As much as PRR had invested in its Q series youd think they would have donated one for tax write off. We all think of these 2 as pinnacles of railfanning. The reality is more along the lines of Penn Cental, a nameless faceless entity NO ONE relates to. No wonder they went bust.SR on other hand is doing fine! NS announced STEAM FOR 2011
Gotta love those NYC A2 2-8-4's, The Mohawks are sweet, I got a MTH model. The New York Central really did have alot of fasinating steam power, and their steam locomotives looked very space aged and had awsome whistels. Gotta love my Number one favorite Railway from back in day.
@HaloCE14 How does this clean coal work.can't any coal be clean if they some how filter the exhaust??I have thought for a long time about with todays knoledge i can see a new steam engine run by computers clean efficent modern and powerfull.
Great previews. I'll order at least one DVD. But... the background piano music is really sappy. Some mid-tempo acoustic folk-blues guitar would work better.
@HotPRshop Music is in the ears of the beholder. The piano conveys a nostalgic mood as with this film from 50+ years ago. Folk blues guitar would be out of place with this footage. Anyway, the music is only used in the opening and introduction segments. All of the action has original NYC sound.
I only hope there is someone smart enough to realize that when there is no more feul from the middle east that we are going to need these steam /coal Trains again>

What happened to Ralph Morris? I was watching Volume 1 this morning, and he was narrating.

Were the New York Central Hudsons, 5401, 5396, 5296, 5413, 5273, 5375, and 5344 around in 1955?

5401 was a J1e thats one narration that was incorrect, plus the NYC had no J2 hudsons.

The last NYC steam loco to run was 2-8-2 1977 on a transfer run in Cincinnati in 1957.

@hrvideo Not only that that's the only one left. But people now make miniature live steam replicas of NYC locomotives. They bring it all back. :)

I wish there was still an operational New York Central 4-6-4 Hudson.

Oops, NYC, NKP still ran steam until 1957 from Englewood.

I still remember seeing the last steam leaving Englewood in Chicago on Thanksgiving weekend in 1955

Good one. Herron videos are on every Mon. at 5 pm Central Time on RFD Network.

I record those videos I wish they were longer
bigsteam5344 2 years ago
If you buy the DVDs, you will get longer versions of the shows. They are cut to 52 minutes for the RFD-TV shows.
