Yes, Karen Carpenter springs to mind somehow. (I am sure that the hectic stress of the Maels' success in 1974 contributed to weight loss. They were both alarmingly thin in those days.) I Karen would have done wonders with this beautiful song. I think it's about the only one from Sparks which can work well with another interpreter, along with the much later I Married Myself. It's an often overlooked aspect of Sparks that they are capable of gentle and melancholy lyricism.
It's a shame that they didn't make the backing band cut their hair - it's like watching Klaus Nomi - aeons ahead in musical style - ruined by pub rock quim-balls.
Wau, this young finnish lad (1974...) loves this band and this song. As a teenager I wanted to listen to this personal sound time after time. It´great how music combine us around the world.

I am kind of freaked out by the fact the first time I saw these guys was on Midnight Special in the mid 70s and only now did I discover that they are brothers. The stage personas are starkly different but the faces are almost identical. The Marx brothers were kind of like that. They could switch costumes and nobody would ever know the difference.
I remember an interview in the Dutch music mag Muziekkrant Oor in which the band tell they were barred from a restaurant because of Russell' shoulder-length hair. The reporter also remarked on the latter's absolutely flawless vocal performance in concert. One of the very few rock stars who has remained his shy and winsome self, listen to his recent interview on wfmu.org/playlists/shows/35582

They should have made more songs like this. I mean, I love what they've already done, but still...Slow Boat, I Married Myself...they reigned supreme in ballads.
i remember listen to propaganda in a friends house in 74....i was in awe.... never heard anything so brilliant...this track in particular stood out and to this day when i hear it , its as if i am right back there in my friends room listening to it that first time.... music is great for going back in time....
inderdaad hierdie liedjie s baie mooi..liewe hel dis SPARKS snaaks soos n briljant...n honderd keur better...laërskole dae70s Parktown-johannesburg ..Ek s X-Avier François.¡Du Nel
I'm always a little shocked by how skinny Russell is in these old videos. In profile, it looks like he was keeping his internal organs in a suitcase backstage somewhere for later use.
way ahead

Environmentalism took off big time in the 1970s. 1970 was International Conservation Year and the motto for 1973 was "Plant a Tree in '73"..
