  • it was a fun utube......someone wants to know what the headgear the shaitel macher was wearing.......Its a snood......I always think we look like those old cartoon characters "the Smurfs"...

  • In reality wigs are forbidden by Jewish law.

  • Hilarious !!!!

  • @canadianmuslimnproud

    Thank you!

  • i think the wig is cheating if you're covering your hair for religious reasons

  • @fortyandfabulous they cover their own hair with the hair of other women. recently they had a problem because they bought hair from poor hindu women and this made the wig hair non kosher because of the religious practices of the hair donor.

    its almost funny.

whats worse is that in these hasidic communities anyone who reports wife beating is threatened with ostracism or worse.

  • shoulda gotten a shevi

  • i work in williamsburg and they call it a turban

  • Please, what do you call the dark blue headgear the shop owner is wearing? Original Hebrew word and what it is called in English, possibly, many thanks!

  • @Aureleann im sorry i don't know.

  • @Guverna

Oh, how sad! Thanks for answering, though. Does anybody know?

I can see this is different from a "snood" but

I really cannot remember though the word sounds like, reminds me of the word "mezouzah" so i think there must be an o, u, a and even n in there, lol.

Anybody? I need to know what you call it please :-D

  • @Guverna tichel

  • @Aureleann i work in williamsburg and they call it a turban

  • @Aureleann I think it's called a "Tichel"

  • @Aureleann most people call them snoods

  • @Aureleann it's a turban

  • @Aureleann. Isn't "TICHEL" ? In English= English " = "Head Scarf".

  • @Aureleann it's called a snood( english), but i don't knot it's hebrew name

  • @Aureleann In English it's called a turban. I don't know what they call it in Hebrew or Yiddish.

  • whoa! I detect a FAKE situation here...Mrs. Finemacher would NOT be standing around in the wig shop with her hair showing!!!

  • @faklempt1 Correct! well spotted.

  • @faklempt1 thats not true... in a sheital store it would be women... so obviously if ur trying on multiple shetails u havta take them on and off. also.. its acting.

  • @faklempt1 Also, in two scenes women are depicted wearing skirts with slits up the back that show the backs of their knees (see especially the last scene with the dog walker). This would never be acceptable in that community.

  • If I had bad veins and feet I guess I would invent a "custom" to cover them up also.

  • What music is this? It is so pretty. I would love to be able to find similar music again.

  • LOL - that was good.

  • wow! nice rant. thank you! and good shubbas!

  • As for my own practice, I have found that covering my hair with a scarf (completely) always elicits repect. Even those unfamiliar with Jewish observance seem to sense that it is for a holy purpose, and a sign of self-respect rather than oppression. And I respect our Muslim sisters for, in many cases, following traditions of modesty more stringent than ours. Alhamdulill-h- Baruch Hashem- Praise G-d!

  • The way men see women nowadays is totally wrong.

Women want men to look into their hearts and minds, not at their body.

Men are easily aroused (in a sexual sense), and we all know that. Look at all the ads nowadays exploiting sex and nude women. Nude women are being used to sell everything, from cars to beer.

The only way to be certain that the men appreciates you for who you are, and not the way you look, is to cover up. Decently.

As a Muslim, I salute you, and wish you peace.

  • Relax, everybody! This is meant to be funny! You ncan have a sense of humor and still be frum.

One point: "Disarray the woman's hair" does not refer to a married woman covering her hair. It applies to a woman (in Temple times) who was suspected of adultery. She was accused of exposing that which was supposed to be only between her and her husband, so to shame her, her hair was exposed to the community.

  • What is? the whole thing? the music? lighting? Do you disagree with the premise of the story? You're feedback is rather ambiguous. For all i know you could be referring to your disposition!

  • if the woman is so frum that she is wearing a sheitl why is she allowing her hair to be uncovered in the film? not enitrely kosher!

  • Funny!

  • the reason women cover thier hair is because it is a mitzvah for the actual hair to be covered. one is suppose to look beautiful its actually a good thing if the wig doesnt look like a wig. ,modesty has nothing to do with looking ugly. its suppose to be the opposite actually.

  • Also,

gueverna, yes, sheitels are not to be worn as something to attract others, but that does not mean that a women should not be able to find one that looks good on her, like her natural hair.

  • i think this movie is really bad and degrating. Wearing a sheitel is a hard commitment and a beautiful thing. Especially with the music, not all Jews act like that. And to Dan-a Sheitel works because it isn't your hair, it's wearing a wig, which covers all your hair. If someone who wears a sheitel drops it, it's almost like losing your sense of purity and innocence, since you only wear your hair out for your husband.

  • "If someone who wears a sheitel drops it, it's almost like losing your sense of purity and innocence, since you only wear your hair out for your husband."

This highlights a rather racist double-standard. If an Arab said the same thing about a hijab, this thread would be full of A-holes ranting about Al Qaeda.

  • LOL! I love the sheitel falling into the pot and the scream! oy, that would not be funny in real life. yeah, finding a good sheitel is like finding a shidduch...or maybe just a good shaitel macher!!

  • We had a "Special Screamer" imported just for this! Glad you liked it. We loved making it!

  • While I understand and respect Sheitels... I just don't see how it would work as a valid head covering... I mean, it still appears as if you don't have your head covered. This isn't a criticism... just me being inquisitive.

  • I can only give you my perspective...that of a non religious man... While it may not look like the head is covered it actually is. However the point of the sheitel is not so much to cover the hair but "Derange the hair of the woman's head" ie make it look bad so as to not be attractive to others.

Some time's it hard to be a woman!

  • Very cute. Where on earth did you find that telephone? My grandma used to have an old rotary phone like that when I was a child.

  • I have 2 of them...hand me downs!

  • -your wife could have a pink afro under the wig and only you and her know. it's intimate!

-the mitzvah is to cover your hair, not look frumpy

-i'm sephardic. mom wears hats & small scarf. jewish women, even in muslim countries never wore the local head covering because it's forbidden to dress to look like other nations. jews are jews, we are only in other countries on loan until G-d restores us to israel, speadily and in our day inshaalah

    -GREAT movie. i'm still laughing.

  • True! VTjoshuaVT! We will wear wigs, hats and so on but NEVER hijabs! Jews are Jews period and will not immitate muslims women at all. I can't believe a bunch of muslims have come over to comment over their little hijab things here! We will NEVER wear such things.

    The movie was GREAT btw!

  • i did wear it in arabic contries and im a jewess !

honestly looked great and was even more confortable that a sheytel which always moves and on the head. but i agree it a symbol.

but i denide that the religion has a monopoly of it simply wearing it .

  • I saw a photo of Iranian Jews wearing chador- long black veil.

Anyway Judaism is much older religion than Islam and Jewish women surely wore something else than wigs or hats in past. As far as I am aware the wigs were worn as a head covering since the end of 18th century- was not that following other nations habits? I guess in past Jewish women wore similar cloths as some muslims today. Who dresses like other nation then?

  • Okay, so your husband only sees YOUR hair. Big deal! Single Jewish men who do not know you will think you are unmarried. Other men, will be more attracted to you with you wig on, because it looks like real hair. So what have you accomplished? Nothing, because all men who do not know you, will NOT know that you are wearing a wig, and may approach you in public. The Ashkenazic community would be really doing everyone a huge favor if they threw out the minhag of married women wearing wigs!

  • What about the movie?

  • Oh, I forgot to mention... the movie was well written, and hilarious. In short, I loved it!

  • After all the best ones are real human hair, and do NOT look like wigs.

  • Remember, the Jewish people all came from the Middle-East. Please consider dressing like Rachel, Leah, and Miriam! Wear a hijab, or something like it, it is the Semetic thing to do! A wig defeats the whole purpose of modesty!

  • We will not wear hijabs! Last time we checked we are not dhimmies!

Shetiles are cool! But at least when we wear scarves our NECKS are not covered up and neither are our faces!

  • I agree with that. I follow orthox Judaism and would never ever worn a wig. And to a lady who claims we will not were hijab- hijab means modest clothing, surely I do dress modestly and most muslims don't cover their faces.

  • I think wigs for married Orthodox women are ridiculous, and snoods are an ugly alternative as well! Snoods on a woman make her look like a Slavic peasant (all you need to complete the look are black rubber boots). Modesty is one thing, but ugly is quite another. I think a nice hijab (with face exposed) would be a huge improvement!

  • I have a nice looking snood, over which I have scarf. I don't see anything ugly on that.

  • hob nisht gezehn mrs schneider in boro park deye voch lol

  • Ich hob es lieb!!!! s'iz zeir funny!!! Love it!!! thanks for sharing!!

  • Any time Rivkah!!!!
