released in 1972 on the MAM record label in UK mam.78. This was the "A" side. The "B" side was "But I'm Not" . Still have all the old vinyl will never part
"You wouldn't think to look at me that i was hard, but underneath it all, I really am. And just to prove it; why, only the other day, I picked a needle up with one hand"
Just one of many classic tracks by Ray O'Sullivan from the early 1970's. Back then, men were men ... and birds were birds !!
Love this song... reminds me of school days for some reason... Always thought it sounded a bit Paul McCartney and Wings ish.. Great memories Thanks for posting!
@centuryrox Don't they just! If I concentrate on this hard enough, I get not just the memory, but the feel of being back in 1972. Remembering the road to Canterbury.
@ivorlottandtonybroke Indeed! In fact, I can still see the 45 RPM record spinning on my record player in my bedroom, complete with the blue MAM record label!
@centuryrox Here in Germany they play it quite sometimes on air. And I always turn up the volume and sing along in my car (am travelling a lot). You are right. Childhood memories.... and I was in Bradford few months ago..... so, just why did I have the name Radford in my ears and on my mind? *g*
Holy Moly. This really brings me back. I still know all the words. I still have the 45...Used to play this as a kid, for hours.....I think it was the B side to Get Down wasn't it?
@dgalewiz Actually, no; it was not the 'B'-side of "Get Down".
Gilbert O'Sullivan's song "Ooh-Wakka-Doo-Wakka-Day" was released [as an 'A'-side] back in the summer of 1972; some 8 months before "Get Down" (his chart-topping single from April, 1973) was released.
Sang along to this with my 9 year old today - we really enjoyed it! This keeps going through my head along with "whats in a kiss". Can't beat it!

This sounds like the kind of tune that Paul McCartney would have written, the vocal even sounds like Beatle Paul!
