Good vlog about public schools... I could relate to what you were talking about, from my experience, and from observing my children's experiences in public schools. I do see that sports play a large role for the acceptance and my kids who are not interested in sports face more risks of being rejected by hearing community, especially in the social circles.
I can share the similar experiences you went through. I was thinking If we consider the superiority of the human species, the size of its brain, its powers of thinking, language and organization, we can say this: were there the slightest possibility that another rival or superior species might appear, on earth or elsewhere?, Is it because selfish audists would use every means at their disposal to destroy us Deaf people in every way? For what? Great vlog!
what a wonderful experiences u got! yeah, i used my athletic abilities to get me "in" the crowds... my mentor is my dad who always said "you are not handicap! u just cant hear but can do things just the same" ...that pretty much all i need to get where i am today... this vlog is "feel good" vids, dvtv or any other site should do more of vids like this! thanks for sharing the feel good vids!
Barb.. that 4 minute video.. of that deaf violin gal.. i think i almost shed some tears and was so heart felt!! was tough holding back!! GULP!! lol.. thanks for sharing your experience and this video.. :)
one more thing is that i was a waitress for 2 yrs and those people called me angel there.. my mom encouraged me to do anything.. i was 7 yrs old i played piano and i should have continued playing the piano but it was not in my blood.. LOL
and i also was mocked by neighbors and abused me and i still stood in front of them and didnt cry.. They left and it wasted their time trying to destroy me. LOL
you brought tears to my eyes because i had many experiences in public school and i kept continuing to do whatever i should do .. They were shocked that i can do anything except hear.. I was on swim team, and i almost won the student body secretary , and i saved the 3 yrs old girl from swimming pool even though lifeguards saw her drowning and didnt do anything and my guts told me to save her and i did..
Wow!!! Thank you so much for sharing your experience through your own journey!!! I was so impressed with amazing janitor who have a BIG GOOD HEART to help you while you did bear from the Audism!!!
Yes I was so experience from Audism who mocked at me when I was in high school, church, and sport. In high school, PE, one of them mocked me that I could not play football as I was receiver but one of them asked what can I do as the receiver. I told him I could run long way and then turn left quickly and fool them as I turned to right caused me to open the field so wide. he saw me and threw at me and got me touchdown. they shocked and came to me and said "good job" I felt so good. Smile
Best Vlog I had ever saw. It is very encouraging. I do agree with you about public school has full of audism. I grew up going to mainstream and had face similar situation. I went to two deaf school in my lifetime. I had seen difference between two type of school. Believing in yourself will lead to a success. I think I would like to embed this video to my website to let people know that everyone can do it regardless obstacle that everyone is facing. If it is ok with you.
I remmy this one. Yea, it shows that those who choose to assimilate into the mainstream do face unrealistic expectations and conflicts. Being human isn't good enuff apparently.

Your story looks inspiring.
I like the part about the black janitor pro-actively caring about you and educating your tormenters.
Role models are always important.

We go thru that all over the world. It's time to stand up for our deaf world.

Her video sounds inspiring.
I think its time deaf people stopped discussing audism with other deaf people in ASL and started educated the hearing about it.
Most people are not evil; however, people are only informed if you inform them.

It's wonderful that you received such encouragement from the janitor.
