@rogerstill71 Yeagh I'm with you; my band in the UK used to play this song and all we wanted to do was to make the nice noise - we didn't care if it was hard or easy; it was the sound that mattered. Let's face it this stuff isn't exactly Bach or Mozart or Duke Ellington but when you hear the slide go from say a D to an E it is soooo good.
Answer: huge conglomerates purchased all of the radio stations, the ceo's started to dictate what we listened to. Nothing sad, nothing happy, actually, they would just keep the emotion out of it and tell the record companys what they will/will not play. Alas, born is filler music. Look at history, how music has changed a nations in past. I read this a few days ago; when a culture's music is lifeless, that culture is bound for more trouble than having nothing decent to listen too
@Countrychiddler Wow are you off. This version of the Allman Brothers doesn't come close to the original band. Even Gregg, Butch and Jaimoe are way better THEN than now. I'm 64 and saw the original band many times and NO Derek and Warren DON'T nail the old stuff like Duane, Dickey and Berry Oakely. If you think you can find a version of this song or Liz Reed etc that tops what Duane & Dickey do on Fillmore East and Eat A Peach then you ain't heard Duane and Dickey play. Today's ABB ain't it.
Come on. I understand you are old and cannot appreciate because it is not "original." I have heard damn near every live recording of the band (and of course the studio albums) and this is just as good. If anything the band is much tighter than it ever was. Let go of the past and embrace what the guitar world has to offer now. If DT could go back in time Duane would shit himself.
@LesPaulAllStar HORSESHIT!!! Today's Allman Brothers is but a tribute band and is NOT as adventureous. The recording of Statesboro Blues on Fillmore East is the standard and it could not possibly be tighter. Same for Trouble No More on Eat A Peach. After seeing the original band over 30 times and other lineups over 100 times, I finally walked out on this version of the band in 2004 and I will NOT be back. There is a Statesboro Blues from Germany in 1991 on YouTube that is much hotter than this.
@LesPaulAllStar This lineup has been together now for 10 years. It's a fucking tribute band. They have added covers that killed it for me. And NO original material that comes close to Ain't My Cross To Bear, Black Hearted Woman, Every Hungy Woman, Dreams, Whipping Post, Revival, Midnight Rider, Elizabeth Reed, Ain't Wastin' Time No More, Mellisa, Les Brer in A Minor, Standback, Blue Sky, Wasted Words, Ramblin' Man, Southbound, Jessica, Pony Boy, High Falls, Seven Turns, True Gravity etc etc.
@boblackey1 And before anyone starts yelling that I don't think Warren, Derek and Otiel are not very good musicans, that is not my view. Technically in some ways they may be better than Duane, Dickey and Berry Oakely. But I'm not sure about that. I'm taking about creative, adventures in the playing of the songs and new material. Technical level is important and maybe Jeff Beck, Gary Moore, Steve Vai and Eddie Van Halen are technically better than Warren & Derek. I'm taking original ABB vibes.
ha ha ha I love the look on Warrens face at about 3:15 ... watching his young comrade D. Trucks shred out with taste. I think Trucks is hands down best guitar player out right now.
omg...he aint no Dicky...gimme a break...dicky was no Duane....shit he knew he couldnt deliver....thas why he ended up strung out.....dont get me wrong..Betts was good...but he wasnt even close to Duane....Duane Allman was a channel..music that came thru him had a feel that will never be seen again....every once in a lifetime...super players come along....Duane Allman was one of those,,,along with Hendrix,,Stevie Ray,Eric Clapton...the music just channels thru these people....betts had to strugl
@imbigal1057 I like Duane better as well, and yes music does channel through certain people, but in different ways. Dickey was/is an amazing composer/songwriter. In Memory Of Elizebeth Reed, Blue Sky, Back To Where It All Begins, Jessica, this stuff just poured out of him. He might not shred like Duane, but Duane didn't write like Dickey. Together they fit, what one lacked, the other made up for. Thats one of the things that made them so incredible, they were like peice of a big musical puzzel.
@HillbillyJ Statesboro Blues 1991 Germany here on YouTube is better than this version to me. It has more engery. Warren is on slide and Dickey Betts plays the solo Derek Trucks plays and man that makes all the difference. It REALLY sounds like the Allman Brothers when Dickey is playing a hot solo. Otiel said in an interview I just watched that he wishes Dickey could get it together and come back as his voice and material were a huge part of the band and that is missing now.
The allmans need that classic melody that dickey brought. This is great, but its like having two duane allman imitators in the band. In no way am i saying that derek isn't amazing, but i think they need a dickey + derek instead of warren + derek.
my god...Derek is the most impressive guitarists i've ever seen, Gregg and Warren both had smiles on their faces when he did that fast ass run at 3:14 .....no one could possibly copy his style....he's somethin else.
@kev3SG Gary Moore could copy Derek's style but Gary just recenlty died on Superbowl Sunday. Gary Moore plays Red House here on YouTube probably better than Jimi Hendirx did and listen to Gary on The Stumple by Freddie King. Hard to find a guitar player hotter than Gary was. Just saw in interview with Otiel, the bass player here, and he said he wishes Dickey could get it together and come back as his voice and songs where just a huge part of the ABB sound that is missing now.
Dickey must have been the 1 dislike.

All this bitching about who, when or what is better just sounds like sophomoric snobbery. The ABB always sound great.

For all putting Derek Trucks and the latest version of ABB down:
They're STILL drawing the crowds. As good as Dickey Betts is/was, he ain't no Derek Trucks.

it's funny cuz derek messed up towards the middle of the solo and yet still it's one of the most spectacular solos i've seen

These guitarist are actually more proficient than Duane and Dickey. The band is super tight. This is such a swingin' tune.
Good to see Greg still ripping it.
Saw the Bros. in 69 and 70 several times.
Definitely one of my all time favorites. Talk about a whirlwind of blues/country/rock/phsycodeli!
