Someone had posted a comment suggesting that I am a self-published author. My first book was published by Health Communications, a highly reputable traditional publisher. Nothing wrong with self-publishing, but I think it's important to set the record straight. @maritimemama You only pay an agent when you get the advance and royalties from the publisher (actually the publisher send the money directly to the agent who then pays you). Run away if a literary agent wants money up front. An editor or book coach charges money up front but their job is different from an agent.

One thing I always wondered - "how do you sign with an agent if you have no money"?
