don't just point your rod at him, bow down to the king when he jumps, give him a little slack..and if you're going to fish for tarpon, that skimpy bass rod isn't the way to go..if by some small chance he does not break you off or spool you then it will take atleast an hour to subdue the fish, by that point he will exaust himself to death or increase the chances of him not doing well after the release or getting attacked by a shark.
everyone me and my buddies caught last summer fought like hell..maybe that vid you speak of was at the end of the fight, maybe thats why he was weak. go out and fish for them in the summer..I guarantee you won't be dissapointed with how they fight, lol.
FYI, as you feel Tarpon is going to jump, you have to release tension, otherwise he'll have a chance to cut the line with the gills. You point the tip of the pole towards the fish. This was a 100 pound fish. You will know how it feels when you hook your first Tarpon from the shore.
