Psychology struggles with the same problems, and a clinical test is everything but exact, ask any practicing Psychologist

You will not get a relevant view on any subjective experience based on statistics, there will always be an interpretation of what is personally relevant for the individual involved. Astrology is more about sensemaking than it is about predicting.

What you need to understand about the problem with astrology, it is not a matter of believe. As in any other case, we struggle for a deepend understanding of human life. Especially in the field of counceling and therapy you are confronted with limits of understanding, and the glory of psychology is way dimm out there. Of course you can easily take the step and exclude everything which will not fit your theorie. Take a look at what William James wrote about science. We really know little !

If I recall correctly, he had us all write something down and then the next class he gave us all "personalized" envelopes. Then he showed how when they do these things, they include contradictory statements, such as describing them as insecure, and then later describing them as confident. People pay attention to what fits and ignore what doesn't

If astrology is so false, I wonder why certain signs have nearly the same effect towards me, even before I ever started getting into astrology. For instance, I am a Virgo and an earth sign. I have *always* found Aries and Leo people as too abrasive for me to really embrace all that well. Yet every single Pisces (water sign) I've known well enough has been someone I could see myself having a wonderful long-term friendship with or even more. What he demonstrated was not astrological readings.

In a time without adequate refrigeration and no meat thermometers, it makes sense to avoid certain types of animals. And as far as I'm aware, the killing of certain peoples was always a specific command rather than a general rule, and not so much "they don't believe the same as you" as "because God said to/they'll cause trouble later."

What you need to understand about the problem with astrology, it is not a matter of believe. As in any other case, we struggle for a deepend understanding of human life. Especially in the field of counceling and therapy you are confronted with limits of understanding, and the glory of psychology is way dimm out there. Of course you can easily take the step and exclude everything which will not fit your theorie. Take a look at what William James wrote about science. We really know little !

I was in a Cognitive Psychology course last semester and my professor did this exact same thing to the whole class. If I recall correctly, he had us all write something down and then the next class he gave us all "personalized" envelopes. Then he showed how when they do these things, they include contradictory statements, such as describing them as insecure, and then later describing them as confident. Well every reasonable astrologer is quite aware of this phenomenon, for there are certainly the same archetypal desires in every one of us. What he has most likely used are hypnotic speech patterns as they are used in trance induction by Milton Erickson. They are unbelievably fascinating when used correctly, yet they work by giving direction to your subconcious to come up with your own private experience to a very general and uncertain description. After all this is not astrological counseling.

@AstroMen2911 It might not say anything directly about Astrology, but it does cast doubt on the predictive power of the divination industry as a whole, seeing how people will say 80, 90, 99% of a generic cold reading is "tailored" accurately to them. Newspapers couldn't afford to use the space for horoscopes if people didn't respond to cold readings as well as they do.

If astrology is so false, I wonder why certain signs have nearly the same effect towards me, even before I ever started getting into astrology. For instance, I am a Virgo and an earth sign. I have *always* found Aries and Leo people as too abrasive for me to really embrace all that well. @Portocala2222...dont worry that hunch you feel about it...go with that...thats more important...IM A CANCER TOO...and its not tricking you...not everyone is emotional, moody, and nurturing like the sign cancer describes...its doesnt apply to everyone...I know plenty of people who dont show emotion like the cancer sign describes...it wouldnt apply to them...you more of a mix of three or four different signs anyways because theres more too it then just the sun sign.

I totally agree, the closest thing I've found is that lots of schools teach logic, both formal and philosophical, I highly recommend taking either or both kinds if you're interested . . .

Astrology was invented thousands of years ago, when people knew nothing, just like the major religions were. And now science has shown that both astrology and all other superstition/religion is b.s: )

@krokeman Read the bible - it makes predictions. the people who follow those religions believe those predictions. There are plenty of beliefs in religion that don't pertain to any ethics or philosophy, such as killing people who don't believe the same as you do or shunning certain types of food.

@SkeksisRule Not many of its predictions come true. There are far more that didn't. Of those that did, none are very impressive. The believer has a defense in that if it hasn't come true, it only hasn't come true YET. They have all eternity for it to eventually come true, making it infallible and even less impressive.

@SkeksisRule The bible contains prophecy, but when the penalty for false prophecy is stoning to death, you don't have an industry built around divination. In a time without adequate refrigeration and no meat thermometers, it makes sense to avoid certain types of animals. And as far as I'm aware, the killing of certain peoples was always a specific command rather than a general rule, and not so much "they don't believe the same as you" as "because God said to/they'll cause trouble later."
