  • What I like the most about this game is the general design. Both the characters, the areas and the backgrounds during battle are very nicely done, very charming. I like the music as well

  • I've played both the SNES and PlayStation versions, but I like this one the best: it's just got...a certain charm to it(:

  • Masikinne has kind of an epic design in his own right. I almost like him more than Cless.

  • Proud owner of the Super Famicom version here. I would choose this over the PSX version anyday. Not only the intro music is great, but the whole soundtrack in general. It pushed the SNES chip to it's limits. In some songs with accoustic guitars in it they even emulated the sliding with strings :o.

  • One of the greatest SNES games I ever played. Still holds up to today's gameplay standards. Love it

  • あ、ほんま懐かしい!大好きやった、このゲーム!

  • This is very impressive on what the Super Famicom/Nintendo Entertainment System can do! You can hear the lyrics in the opening scene. I like the music! Too bad that I missed out on this. If I had known this was on the GBA, I would've purchased it. :(

  • When this song stops playing I'm like "=(", but then I restart it and go "=)" again.

  • Lol, Mint has such a high piched voice in the original. XD

  • Psp>psx>snes>Gba

  • why is it a ny charecter in the gba version?

  • is ta a renigad? 1:33

  • OMG I looooooove this game!! I played the English version of it...it was a little off on the translation but the game still captures you. AAAH! I LOVE THIS GAAAME!

  • @Shavie83 A little off? "War of Kangaroo" turned me off from completing the American localization =(

  • HO MY GOD : D the sound prossesor of the Snes :O my goood

  • love this game so much i wish i could learn japanese just to play it on console.

  • I know the tex in english, but i'd like to know if someone know it in japanese.

  • @SolidSnakeFJB

    この世に悪があるとすれば

    それは人の心だ。

kono yo ni akuma ga aru to soreba

sore wa hito no kokoro da.

  • @KatayokoNoTenshi

    Thanks a lot pal.

  • i played the english version. it says

"If there is evil in this world, it lurks in the hearts of man."

    -Edward D. Morrison

and also, the song is way different in the english version. welcome 2 america, homeboy

  • i played the english version. it says

"If there is evil in this world, it lurks in the hearts of man."

    -Edward D. Morrison

  • Someone can write this Edward's text in japanese?

  • Mexican Game!!!!

  • hey, the original version of the song is in the background. I wish I could find it, I lie YO-MI's version but I want the original Yukari version.

  • This is one of the biggest games on the SNES. Its a awesome game indeed. I never seen so many remakes of a game before. The Ps1 version was just awesome and the PSP version was the same but it was fully voiced and the graphics did get tweaked a bit as well.

  • gracias lo estaba buscando ya que este fue el que yo jugue ajajajjajajaaja es muy bueno y largo

  • Cless has a different look when compared to the SFC and GBA version(s)

  • Better moment of Super Famicom era.

  • This game also used A compressor chip to fit the game on the 6.00MB cartridge. This is what cause some emulation problems with Tales of Phantasia and Star Ocean until they actually got it to work properly.

  • It's a really good opening song. Even better because it's voiced, and that was rare for SNES's history.

  • if you download the ROM you can get an English patch for this game off the dejap website

  • Tales of Phantasia and Star Ocean, are two high-level SNES games that used "streaming" sampling and swapped samples on the fly to overcome the 64KB limit of the SPC700 and to allow additional instruments and vocals. Thanks Wikipedia... that's how they got the singing in...won't work on an emulator tho

  • @JonDay8bit

actually it do work, as the video states as its obviously recorded from a emulator.

But what you cant do is turn this into a .spc file, as the rest of the game is not there to upload the samples.

  • @JonDay8bit Star Ocean was basically Tales of Phantasia ~ Star Trek Edition. It was made by former Namco Tales Studio programmers who left the studio and founded Tri-Ace. They basically used all of the same technical stuff from Phantasia.

  • IS SUCH AN INTRO EVEN POSSIBLE ON SNES?

    O_O ....real....singing......

That is awesome is so incredibly many ways.

  • @Glumglufs and that's one of the reasons why this game is awesome, just one of the many reasons.

  • INDIGNAYSHUN!

  • oooooh my GOOOD the nostalgia

  • i love this game...but wait...is that different costumes I see them wearing?! OMG! I need to game boy! I gotta find this out myself!!!

  • I'm not entirely sure what's different about their costumes... this is the original game, after all.

  • I don't think the costumes are enven different on the anime nor the Gba version. Maybe the perspective ?

  • if this game would have came out in the us during its first release tales would have a larger us fan-base and maybe all the mother-ship titles that didnt come here, considering the fact that for snes and the time this game is holy crap look at that in a good way. So in short best snes game existing.

  • why?

  • "If there is evil in the world, it lurks in the hearts if men" Klarth L. Klester (i think thats what his name was) :O

  • Edward D. Morrison, actually.

  • Edward D. Morrison.

  • I love this version of the game, its the first rpg I finish completely, and the best rpg i play so long.

    Nice intro, too ^^

    Tanks for posting ^^

  • 懐かしい・・。

  • This game if pretty rare to find...

    For super nintendo

  • Ah great memories!

  • I remember reading about this game in an issue of GAmefan (RIP) the first 48 mb game and it had a long ass intro song which was incredible back then. Wasn't this game like 130 dollars brand new if you imported it?

  • Do any of the remakes have the quote from morrison in the beginning?

  • all of them do.

  • If you want my opinion, I kinda like this SNES op the best.

If there's going to be a 3D version in the future, make it like this.

...or Namco can be REALLY smart and release 2 versions, like they did with Hearts.

  • This game is awesome :P i played this through about 5 years ago

  • Cress is used in English versions of the game since they sometimes change's the ''R'' with an ''L'' but since in Tales of the world is a completely Japanese game the name remanis as Cless intead of changing it into Cress

  • I'm kinda confused cause in the SNES and GBA version, the call the main character "Cress". But when he started to show up in newer Tales games (Tales of the Worlds) they changed it to "Cless". Why did they do that?

  • as far as im aware the japanese snes version was ( as with the emulators in english ) referring to the main character as Cless... i just found out that the GBA version calls him Cress... i put it to pronounciation lol

  • Cress and Cless means the same thing in japan.

  • it says. Truly, If There Is Evil In This World, It Lies Within The Heart Of Mankind.

  • in the world if the darkness exist is the human´s heart. or something like that it says when the video starts XD

  • I didn't know that the SNES version were so different that GBA version. I mean, ¡Arche has red hair!

  • snes version better!

  • Does anyone know if the "Arche fucks like a tiger" line was part of the original translation? And is the PSP version any good?

  • i don´t know for sure but I don´t think that line is part of the official translation. The fan translatores were just messing around a bit. ^^

  • lolwut

  • the artwork looks great, need to learn japanese...

  • when i listen the song the first time in the super famicom, i was so happy

  • i think its "the dream will not die"

    or something along those lines

  • What is this song called?

  • Yume wa owaranai ~Kobore ochiru toki no shizuku~

  • I melted the bars on my SNES just to make it SFC compatible =] SNES = Priceless

  • Why is the GBA version really bad? (I just downloaded the SNES Rom, and I have no idea how to control and whatnot...I figure I'd buy the GBA version if it's decent enough)

  • GBA is fine, but the voice acting took a hit in exchange for better graphics.

  • Only problem whit gba version, is slow battles, but its not really problem, also some voices are annoying, but you can turn them off

  • I was so surprised when I first heard a digitilized voice sing a whole song on SNES. :-)

  • well, i only know 2 SNES games with digitalized voices in all the opening; Tales Of Phantasia and Star Ocean

  • My fav game ever <3 <3 <3 I love ToP Famicom version <3<3 GBA version is shit, it's just too lame :/ .

  • ...Man, I wish the GBA version was good. D:

I'd love to play a GOOD version of this game in English... without having to resort to emulators, that is.

I can't for the life of me figure out which key equals which button, and there are so many buttons on the SNES/SFC...

  • You can find a PSX fan made english patch, that you can install at your original ToP or download one and burn in a cd to play in your PSX/PS2.

Since the PSX version is by far the best one, you should get this, the translation is perfect.

Check wikipedia or google, won't give any links here because youtube may consider it illegal and delete this post.

  • Thanks. ^^ ...But would it be alright to say the name of the PSX English patch?

Or a website to put this on my PS2 (without having to break it apart and solder some chip in)?

  • love the psx and snes version gba version is the biggest shit ever they ruined the game

  • oh yeah, it reminds me of one of my fav bands saint etienne

  • this is the best version of that song 'the dream will not end' or whatever it translates to..love this song in this version, the others felt kinda cheesy. eh. i guess i'm just a snes kid

  • Holy shit, voiced narration on an SNES game! I haven't heard that kind since Super Metroid!

  • For some reason the characters here remind me of the characters from Ah! My Goddess... Mint looks a bit like Urd. @_@

  • Heheh it's from the same artist, that's why. ;)

  • I've been trying to figure out how that worked for a few days now... I thought that Fujishima only worked on the series from the PSX version onwards, and someone else did the designs for this one originaly... or they used his pictures and someone elses sprites (hence why the PSX version had different sprites)

    I dunno :)

  • The SNES version had other artist's artwork and they did the sprites with that artwork. Then the artist was changed and Fujishima re-desingned the characters, that's why characters and sprites are so different :'D

  • that was meant to be in reply to sukotsutoclone2 ... not myself.

  • actually in my opinion the GBA was much, MUCH worse than the SNES version, ugh I still have nightmares about what they did to it on GBA, and this is still my favorite tales game of them all.

  • @distortionL05 Yeah, they screwed up pretty badly. The PSX version was HEAVENLY though!

  • @distortionL05 After I played the PSP version I agree, but the GBA version was the first tales game I've ever played and it introduced me to this epic series.

  • The SFC version of Tales of Phantasia is practically my favorite version out of them all.

  • Same here.

Even if the sound capacity of the SFC was primitive compared to that of the PS1, the music were either more energetic or dramatic in the SFC version.

I mean... compare "Be Absentminded" for the SFC and the one for PS1. That of the SFC is so much better.

  • I own all four versions of this game. The SFC and PS1 are my favorites.

  • The name of the song is Yume wa Owaranai(the dream will never die)and it's awesome. the song is so much better here than with that silly piano opening. and the gravelly jap voice at the beginning is cool too

  • I agree, thanks^^

  • I love this game but im stuck...I have it for GBASP...

  • i love this game i mean its better then halo 3 to me :)

  • What's the name of this song and were can you get it? It's awesome.

The voices in the beginning are cute.^^

  • Yume wa Owaranai

  • I can't find the SNES rom anymore :S I got a broken rom for it! *grumble* They screwed up the text to bother emulator players! Chester= Ceshtre. Tales of = Tlase fo... etc.

Still the best RPG of that time for sure :D

  • FAAAAAASTOO AAAAAIDOOOOO!

  • Awesome!

  • Compare the graphics of this to that of FFVI.

There's no difference, they did a good job of doing this on an SNES, while FFVI on a PSX should have had better graphics.

  • Well... Final Fantasy VI was just a port of the Super Nintendo version. The graphics weren't meant to be upgraded. I agree that Tales of Phantasia has better graphics on a technical level, although in the end it comes down to taste - some may prefer FFVI's brighter colors over the murky Phantasia.

  • i full finished this game more than 10 times.

    o__o

  • I know so much about this game after playing it once lol. How to beat the last boss with just Arche and Cless, where all the side quests are and stuff, like that ninja girl. All the maze like places. ESPECIALLY that glitch lol. That was awesome!

  • That's off quite a bit. What he says is

"Truly, if there is evil in this world,

it lies within the hearts of mankind." Edward D. Morrison

  • as i remeber...one of the apple gami skit said the OP song take over 48MB of space@@

  • This is the example of incredible Software Engineering using greatly limited resources.

Only japanese minds could make this game miracle :D

  • I totally love this game. I beat it with Cless when he was lvl 70 something, and I didn't have all the techniques for Arche either. Still a fun game.

  • I beat it at about lvl 90, with every single technique, or maybe that was after I beat it... YEAH, afterwards, I was lvl 99 with max everything and every technique, but I couldn't find Cless's best weapon, unless you automatically get it... Before the boss, I was lvl 69 though, and you'll never believe this! I completely lost... BUT! This was awesome lol, Arche, got glitched behind the bosses head, and Cless glitched behind his arm.

  • Arche couldn't move, and the boss kept attacking her, and he couldn't hit her (Behind his head xD) And Cless was behind his arm, who couldn't get hit either. I don't remember exactly but Arche was in a spot where he couldn't hit her, and Cless was behind his hand, and his hadn didn't attack backwards. And you needed Arche to get behind his hand somehow. Cless could be pushed out from behind his hand, but you need Arche back there somehow. I can't explain it lol.

  • Anyways, I won because of it, an accident. If it wasn't for the glitch, I would've lost, Cless had half hp I think, and Arche had like 17 hp. I was in the battle for a good hour? WAIT, I REMEMBERED!! Something like, leave Cless behind his arm and make Cless not do ANYTHING, then have Arche constantly attacking his head or something like that. That's how I won lol. Lucky! (If only I recorded it...)

  • FAAAAST AIDO

  • I shivered.
