NaturalPointKevin, Does this video prove that with Track IR you can AIM with your mouse and LOOK AROUND with your head??? Like you're using 2 mice to control the game??? (computer mouse for aiming, Track IR for looking around?)
Or......you could make the little hat clip for about $10 and DL freetrack for 0$! Now if I could just figure out how to map the controls in Arma II!!!!
The graphics on a PC depend on the way your equipment is setup.
And really, PC games have always been about gameplay and community whereas console games are all about brief disposable titles, quick sales and swearing down headsets at eachother.
Actually, just as one commented before, basic weapons training teaches that one is supposed to always aim your weapon and keep your line of sight in the same direction. An example of this would be if you were in combat and you turn your head away from where you are pointing your weapon and you notice an enemy, one could possibly misfire and end up hitting another friendly or bystander. ALWAYS keep your head and weapon pointed in the same direction!
not necessarily. If you're clearing a corner, then yes, you want to "pie it out". But, if there are no known threats, there are often times when it's appropriate to lower your weapon and scan.. then when a target is acquired, it's back to "sight's and trigger". I see your point, but head tracking makes the game MUCH more realistic.
Personally, I use freetrack... and I love it! it's cheaper, but takes a bit more "tech-know-how" if you want to use IR LEDs.
Look up freetrack if you want a low cost trackir alternative. The catch is you must have a webcam. The upside is you can have a "trackir" for very, very cheap.
I doubt if this enhances effectivity in infantry battle because it is best to always keep your weapon pointed where you looking so you can fire right away.
You could also want to point your gun at where you suppose the most danger will come from while looking around (f.e. point at the main door of supposedly terrorist-infested hangar while checking for snipers on the roofs)
Also to turn your head and see if your squad leader is nodding a "go" without breaking the silence (if realistic overhearable voice chat is used) while still pointing at the target.
Or use in general the head part of body language ("Yes" "No", "You go first",etc.)
It's adjustable and speeds up your view, so if you move your head a little bit, it's like turning your head to the left or right. But if you have a huge screen or multiple screens, you can reduce the enhanced view speed. Pretty sweet!
It's manufactured by a company called NaturalPoint. It can be used in around 70 different games right now. Mostly flight sim and racing games, but the whole list can be found if you search for "Trackir enhanced games" on google.
How does it fare overall? It seems a bit wierd to move your head but keep your eyes on the screen. I remember having something like this a few years ago. It was utterly useless and really big. Hopefully this is a bit more advanced than that :)

hmmm, you strike me as a very obnoxious person. Console gaming is not about swearing down headsets at each other.

What about to have a tactical fast sight of your flanks, omgambig?
I think it is also usefull for fps like this one. or Battlefield 2142, where you have vehicules, too.
Not to mention ArmA 2 or Operation Flashpoint 2 in fps.
Thanks for sharing this cool video, dude! :)

Cool feature! But honestly I don't use it in actual gameplay.
What's the use of seeing an enemy but not having the weapon in the same direction to shoot him?
Very useful for driving or flying, though!

Situational awareness.
You can call out enemies if you're busy firing in another direction. Or if the threat is large enough, disengage and engage the new target.
