  • @gotbletu: Hi where can I find the desctop wallpaper, which is used in this video?

  • @gotbletu Had some strange issues that running sudo apt-get install gnome-session , gnome-shell or the gnome tweak tool. I get an already up-to date version installed, or package does not exist. When I do get it installed it will either run fine, or will become so sluggish that it is unusable. Tried on Ubuntu 11.04, 11.10 and Linux Mint 11. I have had variable results with installing Gnome 3.

  • Will this guide work with Linux Mint 11 Katya?

  • dotn work for me strange O.o

  • I don't like gnome3 concept...it's just frustrating me (every time i want to switch window i have to go to activities - only waste of time). I was wondering why they removed tray with opened windows :S

  • hmm. didnt work. i used all your code an nothing changed even after i rebooted. I am using ubuntu 11.10. could that be the problem? ubuntu 11.04 doesn't work on my computer because my computer is to new.

  • While Gnome 3 was really nice, It just has too many bugs at this time. Switching to KDE 4.6, I found I had a lot less bugs and didn't have to deal with Unity ;)

Of course, that's not saying that Gnome 2 isn't also a viable solution.

  • The PPA has been recently updated so now Unity works, this is because they took the Unity from the Oneric builds and just placed it there, same of the ambiance/radience theme

  • So is this guarenteed to work? Including on 64bit? I have tried this in the past and its just broke it.

  • LMFAO i loved how you worded it.

  • gnome shells and cheese dinner

  • i dont like gnomes

  • where can i download that wallpaper :D

  • should I do that or install Fedora 15?

  • I like the look of Gnome 3. I have a question though, I seemed to have lost the enhancements of compiz, wobbly windows and such. Is this something you give up with Gnome 3?

  • @MrVeeBlog shells it doesnt use compiz, u might be able to use compiz in fallback mode

  • @gotbletu Fallback?

  • @MrVeeBlog yea gnome3 fallback mode

  • @gotbletu I'll look into it. Compiz is what makes ubuntu unique to me. Windows are supposed to wobble. :)

  • Respond to this video... can i have gnome 3 and on another user unity or all users are obliged to use gnome 3

  • Am i right in thinking that all this does is when you would try and load gnome2 classic session you'll be able to load the gnome3 session at GDM as well as the unity session if one is so inclined?

  • @java501 nvm i didn't listen properly the first time.

  • @xXUbuntuTutorialXx not sure what the problem is, if you follow it line by line then you will be ok. Or if you have errors post it here

  • Hey man...did you have any issue with actually installing 11.04? I have tried every flavour possible aside from using the alternate disc. The installer just plain hangs...and I don't understand why I have this issue. Haven't had a hard time like this since 7.10.

  • @tak178 No i can install it ok, but this release itself has many bugs on 11.04 so it wouldnt surprise me if u cant install it

  • Tried Gnome 3, got rid of it and back to Gnome 2. Some kde games won't work with it and I just became very frustrated with its issues. It's like working with alpha software - maybe will give it a go if and when it's ready for release!

  • @quercus56 Yea it isnt for everyone

  • @gotbletu i switched to dwm because of this bullshit

  • LOl 1:58 "They're still using that ragady ass theme"

    You YouTube Partner yet, though?

  • @MicroHelper yea im a partner, didnt get anyone to do banners or nothing yet, so it looks the same lols

  • @gotbletu Great, man. You're going to be making at least $100-300$ now. Each 1-2 months, lol.

It's all right though. With your summary of Subscribers and views on each video you have.

    You should do well.

Congratulations. For I am YouTube Partner, as well.

  • @MicroHelper Thanks, now we can both enjoy free happy meals loL

  • Why arent you using Kde anymore?

  • @mx22a ill try to do some more, but not many ppl watch those, so i do less of it =)

  • @xXUbuntuTutorialXx unity doesnt work on gnome3 right now

  • I've broken my system three times trying to install Gnome Shell, but this time it worked out PERFECTLY. You are my hero, gotbletu!!

  • @talende 4th times the charm lols

  • Had some errors during install but it's working perfect now... Only I purged Unity, but the update manager still wants to do a partial upgrade and install it back..

  • @iwanteveryting alt+f2 run gnome-session-properties , then uncheck the update notifier, and just use synaptic or terminal to update when u need to

  • Nice video as always.

However I tried to install gnome 3 using the commands you suggested 4 times and always had the same error message at the login screen .. it was something with Ice authority.. dunno.. so I could not even log in to gnome3 and had to reinstall unity.

Do you happen to know if this has been solved?

I am not going to retry to install gnome3 if I dunno bout this issue..

    thanks

  • @Tobelli oh not sure check the forum post, think theres a few solutions, i dont have those problems so i didnt need a reason to use it

  • @gotbletu ok thanks

  • @Tobelli i saw this post today on how to fix it the error, not sure if it works but give it a try, link in the infobox

  • Thank dude.

  • Just removed Arch with Gnome3 in favor of Debian Mint. Until nVidia fixes divers am stuck. Also, Gnome3 has a really poor support for multiple displays.

  • @TheMeanEYE think gnome3 favors the open source drivers, not sure if that works with multi display tho

  • @gotbletu Yeah, I've been told that but main reason for shift to Arch was new Wine. So having open source drivers for the sake of Gnome3 is not that much of a benefit. :) But I am definitely in favor of Gnome3 over Unity.

  • @TheMeanEYE try using the gnome3 fallback mode with the nvidia drivers

  • @gotbletu Yup, tried that as well, but it doesn't play nice with dual monitors and it's slow and buggy. :) Thanks for suggestion though. Sticking with Gnome2 for the time being. Hopefully Gnome3 matures soon :)

  • How are you liking GNOME 3? Are you impressed by it?

  • @EpikEthan yea i like it so far

  • Great tutorial as always - Thanks.

  • @OmenX13 no prob bob

  • Thank you , i have wanted to do this.

I like your video style ,YOU call it the way you see it, Makes good entertainment .

    Thanks again.

  • @wheel3r6 haha Thanks, yup cant plz everyone so dont need to bother

  • did all the steps :-D, installed still had some graphical glitches.. but after i used update manager and restarted everything went black... any help?

  • @kmawls not sure, try booting into the recovery mode and disable the graphic drivers and just use the default drivers, see if it works then

  • The Humanity icons look out of place with Gnome 3.

  • @thejoesteiger looks alright, otherwise gnome has the shit win95 brown ones haha

  • @gotbletu Blue would be good.

  • gnome 3 and compiz possible?

  • @punisher129 yea i believe is possible in the gnome3 fallback mode but not with gnomeshells on

  • thanks for this, btw you can make chromium fit in with adwaita, just type in google 'adwaita for chromium deviantart'

  • @MultiJamala cool thanks
