From what I've heared the pilots were flying on autopilot and the altimeter was giving an incorrect altitude. When the pilots noticed that they were flying much lower than the altimeter's height they tried to lift the airplane but it was too late and stalled.

You say that the wake of turbulence could not have caused this accident, because if airport staff were incompetent, this kind of accidents would have been occuring more often. I would put a counter-argument with equally weak logic: if personnel at Istanbul airport, where the plane had taken off from, were incapable to calculate the demand for fuel, Tukish Airlines planes should have been crashing really often.

I said it was probably a fuel problem rather than a wake turbulance issue, which is what was being said at the time I made the comment! That was before it was said that the altitud sensors for 737 800's are faulty at times!

And never did I say that I didn't feel sorry for those affected by the crash! It is a tragedy regardless of who or what is guilty and I only hope the best and a lot of strength to those affected!

1) The pilot was in direct contact with the tower requesting landing permission for HALF AND HOUR, the tapes where even released on Turkish TV. But the tower kept refusing to give permission for it to land; the pilot even said we could loose the plane if we carry on like this.

2) Turkish airways have recently shot up to #1 Airline Company. What would happen if "coincidently" one of there planes had crashed?

wat boeit het. Het gaat om mensen en ieder mens heeft recht op leven. Het gaat er toch echt omdat dat deze mensen bijna thuis waren of op doorreis waren en vervolgens amper een paar km voor de landingsbaan crasht het vliegtuig (wat de reden dan ook mag zijn, ben de speculaties nu al moe alhoewel dat psychologisch gezien normaal is.

Ik heb dit altijd een mooie vliegtuig gevonden. De tk1951.Me vader is er in november .2008 nog in geweest hij was erg onder de indruk hoe mooi die vliegtuig was.

Jammer dat ik er nog geen vlucht in kon maken :( niemand die ik ken zat erin maar toch ben ik heel verdrietieg toen ik dit hoorde. Maar mensen denk nu niet dat Turkish Airlines slecht is dit kan iedereen overkomen.

die piloten probeerden zo lang mogelijk in de lucht te blijven, das het domste wat je kan doen omdat je dan op een moment gewoon uit de lucht valt. Het beste is om een buikschuiver te maken terwijl je nog snelheid hebt... deze crash is dus zeker deels aan de piloten toe te rekenen :S
