@wahinepaddler4 - thank you! At first I used to do the liquid homemade laundry detergent. But when I found the recipe for the powder, I changed and started doing it that way. It is so much easier with the powder. With the liquid, I had all of these bottles of detergent taking up all of the space in my laundry room. With the powder, it doesn't take up hardly any room at all :-)
@mrscrafty100 - I was pretty shocked to see the difference in my towels. I use 1/2 cup of vinegar to rinse a load of towels now :-) It really makes the towels so fluffy too. Let me know how it works for you!
I just wanted to add that using the vinegar in the rinse water REALLY helps my towels. You just wouldn't believe how much more absorbent they are. I actually just pour the straight vinegar into the reserve compartment on my washer that is labeled for the fabric softener - so I don't have to do anything special. But I would love for others to try vinegar and let me know how it works for them. OH, it will not make your clothes smell like vinegar ;-)
@KCherieSoaps I have been using vinegar in my rinse cycle for many months now. I used to buy a package called Afresh for my HE washer, and it takes 1 hour to go through the clean cycle when using these tablets. It's about $8.00 for 3 tablets. I started using vinegar as a way to clean out my washer and clean the lines. I don't have any problems using vinegar at all. Your right your clothes do not smell of vinegar once they are dried. And yes my towels are much more absorbent.
@VetArmyGirl - oh I love using the vinegar too! Wow - that stuff to clean your HE washer is expensive! I don't have an HE washer (but that's what I want for the next time I have to buy). Vinegar is great for so many things around the house. I used to have a website bookmarked about all the uses for vinegar. It is amazing what you can do with it. It is the best organic odor eliminator too...
