no offense, but I think the xena lesbian fantasy thing is a good way to take a poorly done syfy show and ruin an amazing song. The video itself was done VERY well, but the theme choice only further helps to stereotype the LGBT community, stereotypes many of us work hard to overcome.

X&G can be a wonderful love story, a sociological exploration of women's relationships, a fantasy using existing legends, or for me it's pure fun, joy and delight.
This song is sentimental on a personal level, and I would just rather see it's video based on reality rather than fiction. The talent behind the video itself is amazing. I do not deny that much of our culture (not exclusive to lesbians in ANY way) takes their television quite seriously. Escape from reality, though understandable, is the real issue. I just long for a day when we can care just as much about real life as we do about fictitious characters. What a beautiful day it would be!

I enjoy biographies such as Vita Sackville-West, Georges Sand or Virginia Woolf, but I do acknowledge what seems to be a human need for escape, using say drugs, risk-taking or fantasy.
You also suggest a point that l see as a miasma of anti-intellectualism so prevalent in my country as well as in the US. If the masses are kept very busy concerned with frivolous things, how more easily are our politicians able to to get away with their sleights of hand.
Etheridge herself prefers the narrative of the video to be different to the narrative of her lyrics (Interview on Breakdown CD re Angels will Fall which she directed).

I was listening to The Awakening todat on my bus ride to school and realized JUST HOW completely I've Loved You Before fits Xena and Gabrielle. I then spent the whole day visualizing what scenes I would put with what lyrics if I had the capability.
It seems you've beat me to it, but I can't be more happy that you've won awards for it. Anyone who would deny this song is Xena and Gabrielle obviously is like to the people that never knew Xena and Gabrielle were lovers (subtext my posterior!).
Subtext is any content that doesn't explicitly say something, though can be interpretted (in the case of Xena, very easily) to mean something else. In the case of Xena and Gabrielle, it is never said that the two are in a relationship, however most fans are convinced otherwise due to their close friendship and other material dubbed "subtext". In a nutshell, it's like reading between the lines.
i don't know the dynamics of the xena and gabrielle relationship, but as depicted here it seems it's gabrielle who is more in touch with her feelings of love for her friend than xena. this is wonderfully against the stereotype of the 'butch' taking the lead, and the 'femme' passive and compliant.
xena has this really endearing 'oh my god, that's those feelings again!' her apparent discomfort is fabulous. i'm going to have to watch the dvds.

Reneé O'Connor was cast in Xena after filming that Hercules movie. So did Lucy, who appears in a couple of Hercules movies, then she played Xena in the Hercules tv show before the spin off was created

I was listening to The Awakening todat on my bus ride to school and realized JUST HOW completely I've Loved You Before fits Xena and Gabrielle. I then spent the whole day visualizing what scenes I would put with what lyrics if I had the capability.
It seems you've beat me to it, but I can't be more happy that you've won awards for it. Anyone who would deny this song is Xena and Gabrielle obviously is like to the people that never knew Xena and Gabrielle were lovers (subtext my posterior!).

Subtext is any content that doesn't explicitly say something, though can be interpretted (in the case of Xena, very easily) to mean something else. In the case of Xena and Gabrielle, it is never said that the two are in a relationship, however most fans are convinced otherwise due to their close friendship and other material dubbed "subtext". In a nutshell, it's like reading between the lines.

i don't know the dynamics of the xena and gabrielle relationship, but as depicted here it seems it's gabrielle who is more in touch with her feelings of love for her friend than xena. this is wonderfully against the stereotype of the 'butch' taking the lead, and the 'femme' passive and compliant.
xena has this really endearing 'oh my god, that's those feelings again!' her apparent discomfort is fabulous. i'm going to have to watch the dvds.

Thank you! Whenever I hear this song I thing of Gabrielle and Xena! Their dramatic instances were very touching! It just goes to show, when you have found the one you have known you have found them! They may not be your lover, but you know you need to keep them! I have a soulsister whom has been in my life for 34 years! Sometimes we have parted and have gone our own ways, but in then end we've come back together because we know that that is where we belong.

Reneé O'Connor was cast in Xena after filming that Hercules movie. So did Lucy, who appears in a couple of Hercules movies, then she played Xena in the Hercules tv show before the spin off was created

You gotta love Xena, Melissa and ANYTHING gay. As wierd as that sounds. Cuz gay people are so FULL of love and peace more then straight people. IMO. Because they've put up with alot more then most straight people, for various reasons.
