  • Such an underestimated piece of music in my opinion. I didn't know about Iber until earlier this morning.

  • The Escales is justly famous as one of Ibert's best works (but I like three or four other compositions equally well). This particular performance (I don't recognize the performers) seems a bit earthbound. I've heaerd so many over the years ... and the one I keep coming back to is one recorded by the man who conducted the premiere back in the early 1920s -- Paul Paray. Fortunately, we have his exciting documentation of the score in a brilliant stereo reading from 1962, with the Detroit S.O.
