does anyone know what her vocal style influence is? it sounds like old jazz ala billy holiday to me, but is there anyone recent that she might be taking from. with that said, all the new singer-songwriter chicks are ripping her off hardcore.

Regina has often cited Billie Holiday as one of her major influences. From what I've read, she doesn't listen to a whole lot of modern music. Her library seems to consist of mostly old-school vocal jazz, & even older-school classical music.

Bjork is one of her musical influences, and it's definitely present, vocally, on her studio albums.

Bjork is one of the most incredible singers out there. She has a wide range, can wail up to an F5, has a bright vibrato, and can make insane sounds, like horse whinnies. Overall, her voice is unique, and nobody can emulate her sound.

I doubt Regina thinks Bjork has an awful voice, otherwise she wouldn't have put her down as one of her influences on her MySpace.

I know, I've seen her myspace, it's how I found out about her back in '06. I don't care. No offense to Regina or you even.

I just think that Bjork's voice is nasally and annoying and always sounds more like loud whining than singing. It's such an annoying obnoxious voice. Her music isn't 100% awful, it's just that her voice usually is. I like Earth Intruders because of the melody and content. Her lyrics have been amazing at times (which may be what Reg is referring to) but her voice is awful.

Music is extremely subjective. I'm fascinated by Bjork's voice (I don't find it nasal), but you don't, but we can at least agree that Regina Spektor's voice is incredible.

Oh wow I didn't know she had ever performed this live! And she's so young! It's funny how even when Regina is visibly nervous, you can't tell in her pitch or in the confidence in her voice. She rushed a bit but it was still absolutely beautiful.
