  • Could some one tell me if Mr. Carpenter has a you-tube or other video that shows him playing a Bach Trio Sonata? If so, I would like to watch/hear that. If Carpenter is a true artist, trio sonatas will allow us to see his real artistry, as they are all extreme tests of a players technique AND interpretation AND registration AND taste, or lack of any of those. Any phony-ness or gimmicks used in playing THEM sticks out like a sore thumb. And, did he record any Messiaen works on you-tube??

  • um, I'm telling! No recording devices! No recording devices! Mom!

  • First, I'm certainly impressed by Cameron's technical ability, but I don't care for his interpretation of Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor, at least the small clip that was recorded here. However, his version of Souza's Stars and Stripes Forever is off the charts!

  • Cameron I trust those organists fortunate enough to have shared in your concert realize that whilst you played,,they were in the presence of "greatness". It is artists such as you that now that carry the weight and burden of the mantle of salvation for the pipe organ as a universal ecclectic instrument now that our churches have begun to turn their backs upon its mystical duties and services, which inspired the likes of JS Bach. Bravo,! David Snyder,Heavy Organ, Lumierist

  • Just a flash harry, I am afraid! If he cannot be serious he should not attempt this music.

  • I'm pretty sure this is why organ music is largely dead in the public eye. Nothing but complaining about how the "fucking new kid is playing it all wrong." Yet he's the one who's pulling in large audiences, because he's playing it differently. This 'only x can be played on the organ and only in x way' shit is disgusting. Get the fuck over it and relax your hopelessly tight assholes, why don't you? I think it's been said: if you don't like Cameron, don't watch his videos or listen to his playing.

  • @tregnier279 You are talking out of your arse!

  • I am always amazed by his ability to play every piece of music and make it sound just a bit better by his own interuptration...why do we want to hear everyone sound the same...what a boring world that would be...Cameron is taking the organ to another level in a time when we need current generations to be aware of what an amazing instrument it is...why do I want to see some closeted fat guy slumped over the keyboard with no energy! Maybe note perfect but who cares!

  • I would just like to thank all the people who commented on this video, because it has provided me with some GREAT entertainment. :)

  • After having watched and been amazed by some of his flashier pieces, I am disappointed by the little clip here, musically speaking.

  • I have recordings of this organ

  • Usual slagging about Carpenters' sexuality I see. If you find homosexuality offensive don't watch it. Otherwise keep your comments focused on the performance of the music.

I usually enjoy CC's videos but this one really does him no favours.

  • Obviously, the carpenter ants are incapable of addressing real issues, such as, what does an observer's ability have to do with her/his ability to evaluate another? and - we are not returning to listen/watch this garbage - but how else can one respond WITHOUT going to the youtube in question? Such questions will never be answered, because to do so would reveal the carpenter ants complete inability to accept the truth. You fuckers disgust me to the core.

  • I love all of you people calling this perversion and crap - can't wait to hear you play and your YouTube clip to be watched by millions! What is wrong with an artist like this enjoying himself and being enjoyed by millions? If you don't like it, don't watch and don't buy the CD. And by the way, read the review in the current issue of Gramophone.

  • Wow! Thanks so much for posting! Love Cameron and all his videos. I happen to be able to catch him both at Davies Hall in San Francisco and the Berlin Philharmonie in 2010. So good that this artist is being invited to play the great halls! Thanks again for posting :)

  • Also ich hoffe mal, dass der gute Johann Sebastian Bach im Himmel das nicht ertragen muss (naja gut, er kann es natürlich nicht hören, er ist ja hoffentlich im Paradies!)

  • das ist ein Massaker

  • Is this like a romantic interpretation of the piece? :\

  • I'm sure that Bach would be bewildered at this performance. No connection of any type. What is wrong with this guy??? Why play this piece of your not going to communicate the composers message?????

  • I think Bach would go completely nuts about such a tremendously versatile organ and all the things you can do with it, that he could never have dreamed of! JS would be SO jealous, he'd wish he was born two centuries later and met Aristide and EM!

But I have to admit it's totally presumptuous to think you can tell what Bach would have thought. Shame on me!! :P

  • People keep on going on about him being "revolutionary," but if this video is any testament to his abilities, he most certainly is not. The essence of this piece is essentially lost.

  • He is revolutionary. And a 46 second clip doesn't give you any idea of what he was doing, I was there

  • Why are you so nasty? Just what is your problem? I will leave you to attack other people's opinions. Please do not reply!

  • Do you have any idea how many times I have been preached this very same sermon? And guess what? I still detest this weirdo.

  • Yes: Thank you very much and fair enough. I just wonder why you are so nasty to people.

  • Wrong.

  • Wrong.

  • Yeah It's pretty clear you DON'T watch or listen LOL, your comments prove it.

But you still have to access this page and the video starts auto playing every time and you love it because you keep coming back.

Where's that video of your keyboarding skills, still can't cough one up?

Didn't think so, but we'll all wait for you to get one up someday.

  • That's right - keep erasing the TRUTH. But erased or not, the truth remains the truth. Those who can't accept the truth are the ones who need psychiatric attention.

  • Make your own video, post it here and prove you can do better or shut up organman52, simple as that.

    Walk the talk.

  • @lostnyc2, why don't u shut the fuck up u spineless sack of shit. carpenter is a total hack and the reason why you're throwing out that "lets c u do it better" crap is because you're afraid that organman is actually better. Insecure prick.

  • @lostmuthafucka

I saw the comments and I chose to fight u because you're one of camerons ass lickers, you slurp up every single drop of it from him. oh yh, why do U plagarize me? Because your mother never stuffed enough insults up your filthy ass like mine did. u want videoz cause u can't stand hearing extreme opinions. suppose we should thank your brainless mouther for poping out yet another weakling cheesedick.

  • OOOHH got up on the wrong side of the matress on the floor today and all acid toned I see.

How about a "Fuck you pscho," that good enough for you? I thought so.

  • @lostnyc2 Yeah I agree completely. Show us you are better or shut up!

  • You are such a miserable sod aren't you. I will just say I didn't like it...

  • He can nothing apart from making a big show. Compared to Roth, Latry, Guillou and Bish he is a vasage. Maybe some studies at the Conservatoire de Paris woud be good for him!

  • @Saurencaerthai How do you figure?

  • @Saurencaerthai So you speak for everyone? You say the essence of the piece is "lost". Can you tell us what the "essence" is, and where it went? Many people hate newness, change, anything different from what their thoughts tell them life "should be". Why can't people hear music as it is instead of focusing on what it should have been? They might find more color in their lives...

  • @soyeso999 Why would I bother speaking for others?

What I hear is not "newness" or a "refreshed and new perspective on music." I hear erratic, lurching tempo. I absolutely think performances should be compared. Statements like "Why can't people hear music as it is instead of focusing on what it should have been? " sound like blanket excuses to me. I have heard plenty of people play Bach in new and non-orthodox ways, Dan Houlihan being one of them.

  • This is a brief excerpt of the opening "Toccata" ("touch piece".) which is similar to the Baroque Fantasia. Though they may both have metrical sections, they are usually free in tempo and meter.

Of course, the fugue section should be metrical for the most part but in this case, I think your remark show a misunderstanding of the form.
