  • omf , cant ppl just watch the video without bringing politics to it? god dang it... if i wanted to see or read bullshit i would have turn the tv on and watch news...

  • Ancient Greeks didnt think macedonians were greek, ancient macedonians did. It´s not that easy, stop whining

  • greeks invented democracy, medicine . . . and UFC.

  • why do they put subtitles when the greek speaks english? LMFAO

  • PROUD TO BE GREEK!!!!!

  • The Greek empire began to collapse after the 3rd century, im pretty sure. Alexander wasn't Greek, he was Masedonian. During the Roman domination Greek got unified with the others cities-states (Macedonian Troy, etc) There's no need to inssult anybody.

  • @lzero989 but with your line of thought not athenians were greeks neither spartans...and neither all the other city states in greece. but either way macedonians participated in the olympic games and only greeks had the right to do so ...

  • @994Kide yeah i'm sorry i was very angry when i wrote it so i forgot to mention that i didn't mean the other slavs

  • i say who gives a fuck (pardon for language). this may not be the best place to preach this but it seems like you youtube trolls could benefit. having a huge ego and pride over who was what ethnicity, and what current historians thought that ancient historians were trying to say and what they drew their national lines at. which is on what side. i know its cliche but that kindove petty arguing over pointless shit just leads to anger and hate and is a forerunner of racism

  • will you skopians stop the propaganda on every video that refers to Greece?

You won't gain a country through youtube, especially one that dosn't belong to you. Back to Skythia or wherever you came from....

  • They said that Pankration was lost, but I read that the Romans used it. (They adopted anything that worked from their enemies, so it's not the unbelievable.)

  • @SpadaccinoLuciano Yes, the Olympic Games began in 776 BC and ended in 393 AD when the Christian Byzantine Emperor Theodosius band them. Pankration was a sport in the Olympics for all that period. The Romans had adopted it in to their games as well, until it was also band in 393, along with all Pagan Festivals.

  • 8:35 "THIS IS SPARTAAA!"

  • This reminds me of Sambo which reminds me of Judo which reminds me of how the Gracies are taking credit for shit they didn't invent...

  • Comment removed

  • @retardno002 I don't think the ancient greeks had friendly relations with asian people to learn judo(saying asian in general because i do not know where judo originated)..

  • @stevenINC8 You should keep these kind of opinions for yourself my friend. Judo is ~2000 years older than what these guys are learning in the clip... Not for a moment have I ever stated that the ancient greeks have learned judo from asian people roflmao

  • @retardno002 You said they are taking credit for something they didn't invent..i ask you then how did they know it?saying they didn't create it means they took it from somewhere so where from?

  • @stevenINC8 I was speaking about the Gracie family... you know... the BJJ guys?

  • @stevenINC8 Judo?

  • @retardno002

aww the gracie family.. sorry mate i thought you were talking about ancient greeks..i spoke out of line..my bad..

  • @stevenINC8 No problem I got a good laugh out of it. And I meant 2000 years younger not older. :))

  • @oyrishclover I agree in all you said.

  • Humanity even nowadays, still pays attention to GREECE! Extra-ordinary! Have you ever wondered WHY? :)

    Ἔρρωσθε καὶ εὐδαιμονεῖτε!!!

  • @emilygri

    because THIS IS SPARTA!!

  • fuck usa fuck skopia. MACEDONIA is GREEK..

  • re gamo ta spitia tous lene tin fyrom macedonia to mouni pou tous petage

  • They call it Pank-ration . but its called pank-ra-ti-on

  • @hetfield15 no in greek its called pan-kration pan=full kration= power or force

  • 5:41 looks like a F U john cena's finisher

  • Alexander is greek!!! Hopefully some idiots will once learn history separated from american movies... And for those who know, well it's smthing they have to be proud of distinguishing themselves from the victims of history-free globalization

  • Resurgence? Rediscovery? From sculptures and paintings? Looks like a modern creation someone tacked a good story on to give it some historical validity. You can't learn martial arts from a picture. If you believe that then I got a nice bridge for sale :)

  • @gtaichung Well it wasnt just sculptures and paintings there were scripts that explained in detail , there were vases that had different pictures of pankration practices , some of the great philosophers were practicioners of pankration , it was an olympic sport also because the medicinal terms havent changed since ancient times we managed to recover some knowledge , if your still not convinced you check them yourself

  • @JasonHurricane So you wanna buy a bridge? :)

  • 6:25 Tang Soo Do... ^_^ im proud

  • wtf lost? ooo but why gladiators in arenas adapted this art of fighting???

  • Mallios trains Zambidis. Zambo appears a little bit in the ring in 6:32...

  • Alexander was GREEK.When will you Slavs accept that Macedonia is a GREEK province NOT a fucking Slav country?

  • @JimisOTigris When it was a part of Yugoslavia, its culture changed a lot which made it a slav country.

  • @JimisOTigris Uhh theres a greek provinces named Macedonia which the greeks berally accepted as greek back in Alexanders times lmao. and in the 6-7th centuries slavs invaded greek byzantine empire and settle n its terretories that they conqured and probably also called their countries with the names of the regions/states they counqured -Macedonia, Bulgaria (the original bulgars were turkic people mixed with slavs, avars etc..)

  • @JimisOTigris know because im 1/4 greek :D

  • @JimisOTigris astous na xtipiountai i istoria to leei pos o megas aleksandros eftiakse tous tonous sta grammata, sta ellinika grammata gia na ta mathoun oi anthrpoi oi opoioi exanan ap ton polemo kai ipodoulonotan oli i glossa ekeini einai i arxaia elliniki, tha didaskan arxaiaelliniki glossa oi slavoi?

  • @TheMitsaras98 σωστος

  • Alexander was GREEK.When will you stupid Slavs accept that you are NOT Macedonians?Macedonia is a GREEK providence NOT fucking Slav.

  • It seems to me(I've no research on this btw) that European martail art have all been forgotten as weapons became better. Asia have been a little behind in technologies. It would be great if we could relearn all that we have forgotten.

  • wait, they taught me a kick almost exactly the same as the gastrizein-kick in karate ages ago.

  • Try using the Gaztrizein in Muay Thai/Kick Boxing, it really works.

  • k emeis stelnoume ta paidia mas soinikiako karate k kickbox aparadekto

  • "From the 3rd century BC almost, Greece began to collapse"

This idiot of a commentator implies that Alexander was not Greek. When will some Americans learn history?

  • @RunicAxe in many circles outside of greece for a long time, macedonia was not considered part of greece for some stupid reason, he probably was just taught that

he still should have looked it up considering he was being taught it

  • @RunicAxe alexander was Macedonian.....check your facts before u start hating

  • @childoftheamp I know he was Macedonian, Slav, because I am also Macedonian, having been born in this province of GREECE which was named like this since before Alexander. Here Alexander was born (not up in your Slavic country), here you can find tons of ancient ruins including Philip's tomb, and here all the findings are in GREEK. Just because your government wanted to give your rabble of a country a cool name doesn't mean anything in reality.

  • @RunicAxe what do you mean by my government :S....how do you have any idea...i could be in fuckin somalia for all you know. maybe im a pirate 0_0

  • @childoftheamp Or an arse-bandit, har har! :-)

  • @RunicAxe LOL....nice work....i hafta give you credit for that XD....no sarcasm intended....seriously

  • @RunicAxe never some people want to remain ignorant.

  • @RunicAxe not all americans are ignorant of history

  • @RunicAxe 3rd century is 201-300BC..Alexander died at 4th century(356-323BC).Greece started to collapse after the death of Alexander at last quarter of 4th century BC. So the commentator made a mistake. The collapse started earlier and not in the 3rd century BC(300-201BC).

  • @RunicAxe IN the next part they do mention Alexander of being greek...

  • @RunicAxe Alexander's reign was ended on 323 BC, so the commentator is right. You are the one who needs to learn history, bitch.

  • @RunicAxe Have you read what you have said? first of all, when did he talk about alexander the great? The only name that I heard was Socraties. Second, how on earth does that quote talk about alexander not being greek? It simply says that after 300 BC greece started to lose its authority. It's amazing how misguided comments like yours always get the top rated. people musn't be able to read or listen...

  • @MetalStorm48 The show actually refers to Alexander later on, as one of the Greatest Greeks in History

    (part 2 in this upload).

But, in the opening map the small country above Northern Greece, is Named ‘’Macedonia’’, which is False! These People are Slavs, hating their own Slavic heritage and trying to make use of on the ancient Greek one! We Greeks have become very sensitive from this situation and often ‘’rally’’ to speak out about the truth! Don’t misunderstand us please.

  • @MrGenseric If that is so then you should have posted your first comment on a different video so that I could ignore it then.

Also, the map at the start represents a map of the current world (or at least when this show was made) in which macedonia is clearly a seperate country from greece. And this show was produced by a North American company, which isn't, and never was, a Slav country. Do your research before you broadcast insults.

  • @MetalStorm48 ??? I did not intend to insult you or the American company that made this good show. But if you meant to say, that this country was not a Slavic country, you should do your research my friend. Read some history. It was part of Yugoslavia and has nothing to do and never had, with Μακεδονία which is actually a Hellenic word and a Greek region! And that is why we do not recognize it as a country baring that name. If you meant something else, I apologize(The first comment wasn’t mine)

  • @MrGenseric You speak in circles and if I'm honest I don't know what the hell you're talking about anymore

  • @MetalStorm48 LOL.Leave it then, it is out of the subject of the upload... It is about Skopia the little country, above Greece, which is not, was not and never will be Μακεδονία.

  • @RunicAxe 3rd century BC means 299 BC - 200 BC, Alexander died 323 Bc, that's 4th century BC, after that his enormous empire was divided into smaller ones and handed over to his trusted generals, that is about 310 BC, after that ( 3rd century BC) Greece really began to collapse.

  • @Dracicatko yeah, thats the bad truth, but now we will be worse than 310 bc.

  • thumbs up if the guys with "this is sparta" in their comment (exculding me) aren't so original.

  • gastrizein in english means "this is sparta"

  • Comment removed

  • he forgot to shout 'this is sparta' b4 doing the kick lol

  • looks a lot like mma

  • The fighting style when they are on their feet looks like a Karate kumite.

  • looks just like mma

  • every time they pronounce the name in english i keep thinking about pancreas....Learn to pronounce non-english words americans!

  • to be honest its not really popullar here in greece :P

  • gastrizein -- the this is sparta kick

  • "This is madness!"

    "Madness? THIS IS PANKRATION!!"*kick*

  • Dude, look at that lovely smog right at the begining of the video =S

  • The first fight had a lot of shotokan karate reverse punches in it and kicks, and the shield was chipboard

  • BOARD DONT HIT BACK!

  • IT IS SPELLED PANKRATION NOT PANKREICION

    IM GREEK TRUST ME

  • @CrazyDuck1996 They've just Anglicised the pronunciation. Not that I agree with them; I'm a Classicist.

  • And we all know drywall is the hardest material.

  • umm greece never fell what are they talking about

  • @DreDre2411

classical greece fell before the roman conquest. not by invasion but by the loss of its originating people through mass non greek-labour and integration with its slave population. not even the epic achievements of alexander could stave off the inevitable

  • @GaolisVideoLog come back and comment when u really know the chinese history

  • thats just a push kick

  • This is pretty much all MMA, not really a coincidence that the pankration resurgence happened after the ufc started

  • PAIN-kration

  • those guys on the beach do shotokan karate instead of pankration ... they didn't do a good job in reconstruction they even made hits to the head ilegal. It's "dangereous" ! How come it's not dangerous for mma guys ?

  • @Theseus1000 1: they were gloves

2: its dangerous for them, jsut as any art that allows repeated hits to your head

  • the gastrizein-kick looks like the leonidas-this-is-sparta-kick

  • @thedevillovesmetal te sparta kick was prob based on te gastreizen

  • @thedevillovesmetal it is xD

  • @thedevillovesmetal i imagine it is the same kick. Then again, there's other similar kicks in many other martial arts.

  • @thedevillovesmetal Gee i wonder why.

  • @thedevillovesmetal exactly, spartans used pancration ;)

  • @thedevillovesmetal it is that:P

  • THIS IS SPARTA!!!

  • @ENOCHSZUNXXXL ON PRIME TIME!

  • u dont gonna make me believe the ancient greeks agreed not to punch the head in mortal combat in ancient times

    that is just ridiculous

    for blood sports or warfare

    plain ridiculous

  • @nephildevil Anything went in ancient greece, for the modern sport, they changed it.

  • @EZPZLEMONSKWEEZE why? if it goes in mma, then it shud go in pankration too, right now mma is more pankration then pankration itself

  • @nephildevil I see your point, but I can't answer that. Ask the Pankration council of wanna-be spartans? I do not know.

  • @EZPZLEMONSKWEEZE it'll change modern pankration severely, but it should be the thing to do, i mean it is all about bringing back the ancient blood sport

  • @nephildevil I would rather not have naked men pulling each others wangs and killing each other, but yes, I would sort of like to see it a bit more brutal.

  • @EZPZLEMONSKWEEZE hahaha yeah, thats a good way of putting it :'D

  • heel kick looks like wing chun front kick. it's a powerful kick, but breaking a big ass piece of particle board is not impressive

  • no offence to anyone but Hellenic civilization will always live as long as anyone is educated learn science and you really do know what i mean.. modern Greeks we might not be so "sophisticated" as our ancestors but we deffinetly have what from father to son we tought since ancient years... we have our honor pride and hospitality we preserve our history our language and freedom no matter even if we are a handfull.. sorry for my english its not my native

  • Kool this is the style that jeffry mcwild uses on virtua fighter. Ive always wondered if it was a real style.

  • If yo live in ARIZONA, IN PHOENIX AREA.....you need to check out AMERICAN PANKRATION FIGHTING owned by jeff funicello in mesa and ASU rec center....they consisitently have the top grapplers and they consistently win state, national, international and world grappling championships...and its much more modern and advanced than what in this video

  • 3:54-3:58 "But like all civilizations, the Greek states eventually fell." Correct me if I'm wrong, but China is still kicking. It's the only ancienct civilization that still exists.

  • @GaolisVideoLog in a way, alot of china's ancient traditions are lost in time, single emperor of china, son of heaven. hereditary ruling, and also foot binding and lei tai combat.

now, china is modernised and following western traditions. isn't that considered "the ancient civilization has fallen?"

  • @GaolisVideoLog Greek civilization and heritage gave birth to the modern Western world as we know it. So, even if we suppose that modern Greece has no connection to the ancient Greek states (check your history lessons for that), Greek civilization still exists through the West civilizations. Another way to see this is to track down the similarities of modern Greek with ancient Greek language.

  • @ntipouan Of course you're right. Even bits & pieces of the Maya, Inka & Aztec culture roam around in presentday Latin-America. But these nations don't exist anymore. Vast parts of their & of ancient Greece's heritage was erased or forgotten. Some elements are being or were rediscovered. Thing with China is, it is one continous 5000 year old stream, the country China being 3500 yrs old. Nothing forgotten, no gaps, all recorded, everything still standing & the nation still existing. Even today.

  • @GaolisVideoLog This sounds to me that Chinese civilization lacks of what is called "evolution". Greece has passed from the Classic times, to the Roman Empire, to the Byzantine times, to the Turkish occupation, and to modern Greece. Imo one can track everything of the aforementioned states of "Greek Civilization" in modern Greece, more or less. Except of course if you're referring just to the Classic times, Golden Age and all that. Yes, that age has passed.

  • @ntipouan Yeah, one problem with Greece is that there appear to be holes in the history, of which some are just now being dug-out. And then rather long times of foreign domination. I think China's evolution can be seen in their economic growth right now. However, China has always kept it's name & most parts of it where never colonized. Of course, it drastically shrank in size. But still, it managed to stay very stable. Of course, Greece still exist, just not "the Greece" from way back when.

  • @GaolisVideoLog /watch?v=EOI9i91_pXk

  • @GaolisVideoLog i think he means the armies

china lost to japan and their armies fell so maybe thats what he meant?

  • @KyoOmaya I got a lot of replies on that comment. Hope I'll find them all. Now, yeah, the first Chinese republic lost to Japan & the eastern areas like Manujuku were controlled by colonial Japan. But that was an incredibly short time span. The same generation of people kicked them out again.

  • @GaolisVideoLog The Mongols conquered China. However you are partly right, as Chinese civilization survived the conquest, and reasserted itself under the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

  • @Kampfer1445 AH, you're right. The infamous Yuan-Dynasty. However, Kublai Khan didn't destroy the Chinese culture. He endulged in it, which made him unpopular with the mongols. The entire Chinese system of gov., culture, languages & script were left untouched by him. The Mongols stayed where they were and left the Han alone. That couldn't be it.

  • @GaolisVideoLog I agree (as I said, Chinese civilization survivied the conquest), I was just raising the point that Ancient China did technically fall, even if Chinese civilization did not. However the fall of the last Chinese Dynasty in 1644 or the 1911 Revolution also mark decisive breaks with the past. Your same point could be made (although to a much lesser extent) about the Roman Empire, much of whose culture and legacy continued in some form under the Germanic successor states of Europe.

  • @GaolisVideoLog They were referring to ancient empires, and how they fell in the end, like the Greeks, Persia, the Romans and so on. The Ottomans fell shortly after WWI and Britain, once a glorious empire now ceases to exist in any real sense. China was not the exception. In 1912, the last proper dynasty, the Qing dynasty, collapsed (not counting the failed "Empire of China" attempt by Yuan Shikai), bringing an end to imperial China. But obviously, all of these civillisations still exist today!!

  • @TRGnoobie Kudos. Check mate. But in that case, they shouldn't have used the word "civilization". Words like "empire", "kingdom", "dynasty" are better choices.

  • @GaolisVideoLog True, that should be done to reduce confusion. But by right, the Greek empire by itself is a civilisation. I admit I'm not good enough to tell you the full definition of 'civilisation' because thee is so much to debate about. But I think you know what I mean. So during that time, it has to be considered a civilisation, only that it met a high societal advancement. Like the Greeks and many other ancient civilisations, they went through a 'golden age' period before declining.

  • @GaolisVideoLog u obviously dont know the definition of civilization. Going by ur logic no civilization ever ended.

  • @GaolisVideoLog yeah but really they went through a whole bunch of dynasties and all of china wasn't united for most of the time.

  • @GaolisVideoLog but china sucks

  • @GaolisVideoLog well spoted.

  • @GaolisVideoLog Greek people are still alive...

  • @permatroll No, they're all dead and zombies. XD But honestly, a few other users and I talked about this a month ago. You can look at it if you want ^_^

  • @GaolisVideoLog Really? Huh, I didn't know that China has been Communist for thousands of years...who knew?

  • @JustinWomackMusic 1)Check the history this thing has been discussed a month ago and settled. 2) The Chinese became Communists out of their own will. Not because someone forced them to. Big difference. Their culture still stands. So do their buildings and documents.

  • @GaolisVideoLog "The Greek states fall" not Greece..Greek states was Thrace,Macedonia,Athens,Spartans,Corinthians etc...

When these states falls it was founded the unity nation of Greece!!!!

    The states falls not Greece!!!

this is the ancient kratos of the world my friend..i am not saying this history says this..

  • @GaolisVideoLog Not Really, Greece exist still today, Italy, Egipt, Irak, Iran, India, Israel etc some have just changed the name

  • @GaolisVideoLog I don't think that Greece doesn't exist lol! We are the only nation in the history of mankind to become a superpower twice.

  • @GaolisVideoLog it's China fell and rise again

  • @GaolisVideoLog The only "great civilisation" still in existence is India. By definition the ancient Chinese civilisation ended after the communist revolution. This would be defined as e new civilisation.

  • @ACCACA and how did India preserve its civilization after the British invasion? It's the same thing to me.

  • @ACCACA hindu religious practices are the last surviving link to former indian civiliations. the aryan and harappan cultures have not survived. by defenition only china can still beclassed as intact. even with communist masters as they have kept alot of teh old practices alive. chinas long exsistence is due to isolation and homogenity.

  • @RobertJayMatthews Though I take your point about isolation and homogeneity, (though homogeneity is really only apparent to Western eyes) the cultural revolution in China had a very marked effect on the culture of mainland China. What exists now is not the same civilisation. Speaking from and anthropological view.

  • @GaolisVideoLog yep.... china are the only civilization that still exists

  • @GaolisVideoLog

Because of all the ancient civillisations china was the only one that kept racial homogenity. little known fact of history, lose the originators of a culture you lose that civillisation. greece, rome and egypt all fell foul of this simple rule, one of the reasons why china is so anti immigration

  • @GaolisVideoLog yea but new zealand could just drop a fucking atomic bomb on ur sushi muncher ancient shit and it would be murdalized nigga

  • @GaolisVideoLog the greek civilization is more ancient than the chinese one.

so u cannot compair them for now..

but even they were the same old, u cannot say that the greek civilization fell!!

    why do u say that!

  • @GaolisVideoLog the greek states eventually fell,BUT the Greek civilization remain one of the most important parts of every study....when every academy learn about Socrates,Plato,Aristotle,Thales,Pythagoras,Democritus,Archimedes and many more you cant claim tha china is the only ancient civilization that still exist......

  • @GaolisVideoLog they didnt fall really, there empire just declined, and china is a relatively young country, it used to be split up into differant empires, (or dynasties) which eventually combined to make china

  • @GaolisVideoLog Indian civilization is even older than Chinese and Greek civilizations. While the Greek and Egyptian civilization eventually fell, the Indian and Chinese civilizations still exists to this day.

  • @GaolisVideoLog then so are the greeks and the french.... while the chinese country is alive they have gone through many, many dynasty changes and as such changed it's civilization just as many times (if not more) then everyone else.... they were even completely conquered by the mongol horde at one point... You sir need to learn more history

  • @GaolisVideoLog Yeah but china wasn't really united 1000 years ago it was sevral empires.
