Also N2 reduction should have been an indication of engine damage...and restart should not have been attempted to reduce fire hazard. Am I missing something?
This episode has developed a game in the internet known as 'Hero of the Hudson River'. My, I made several successful landings after a series of unsuccessful ones, hehehehe!!!!
Damm on that time i was watching this on the news .i like OMg but everyone got save n boats pushed that plane and people were mad scared lol any way this is Awsome how he did
That was one fucking hell of an experience! Say does dejavu really exist. And more puzzling yet, Cineflix made a new episode on Flight 1549, the plane that freaking crashed just a few weeks before I used the same flight and watching an episode Air Crash Investigation made while on board!!!!! Is this just a freaking coincidence, or dejavu is freaking real???? I'm both amazed and puzzled!!!!! Why is my life so weird???
Ironically, a few days before the disaster, I was taking the exact same flight on Christmas Eve of 2008, to Charlotte, NC. then boarding a USAirways Express flight to Atlanta. On my way to Charlotte, I was watching the same Air Crash Investigation episode "Fatal Distraction" (Eastern Air Line Flight 401) on my iPod touch and simultaneously though to myself about what could happen if this happened to me right now? Later when I saw this on the news I was literally fucking shocked!
Stupid ACI episode. Its a air crash INVESTIGATION and in this case, there is NOTHING to investigate.. everyone knows about the birdstrike. FAIL EPISODE!!
hmmm.. GE engines? lol... this airbus is fitted with 2xCFM-56 engines .. CFM is co-owned by GE though... technically it's either 2x CFM56 or 2x IAE2500 engines.
Amazing. Imagine if the pilots had tried for Teterboro Airport - after all, most pilots probably wouldn't have considered the river. This could have ended very differently. It's remarkable that they were able to keep so calm, let alone execute a water landing like that!
-it was a great water landing, all you need is for the circumstances to be just right
-what JAL pilot ACCIDENTLY landed in water, with landing gear configured and still no casualties...what how LOL!
-hahaha yes, finally Boeing go suck on that and GREAT pilots
-it was an awfully obvious "investigation", yes, they even said its a different case cuz its already solved basically, just a matter of preventing it in the future
I think the best water landing was JAL flight 2. The pilot mistoke the San fran bay for the runway and landed 2.5 miles from the airport. No injures or deaths. the plane was recovered and returned to JAL
I always liked ACI for its mystery, and the efforts of the investigators to find an eluding cause. With a familiar crash like this, it contradicts that for me. We know why it happened and how. We can put together that some bird extermination programs should be used around major airports and so on. After all, ACI should entertain and surprise, not stretch out a birdstrike. However, like you said, it is always nice to see that everyone survived.
i say did they really need to remake this one .. we all know the story, the survivors have been all over US chat shows. Sully is a national hero, and having anyone else play the role of sully in the reconstructon is just wrong
@tregino - i agree with you to a certain extent but wouldn't you say that its nice to see an air crash investigation with a good ending and also the pilots being shown in a good light instead of suffering from fatigue or making errors. Yes im sure most people are bored of the story but they done a fantastic job and everyone walked away :-)
@griffy1988 yes the points you make are valid ones to which i concede, although i'd rather of had a different episode, (Not sure which one) but the Media and people that care know that he did a tremendous job. and the amount of ' flight 1549' documentaries show it. and at 3:36 the narrator even says by the end of the day they would become the most famous flight crew in history.
@ijustflydammit . i agree with you about 1st officer skiles and thanks for the upload.
Also N2 reduction should have been an indication of engine damage...and restart should not have been attempted to reduce fire hazard. Am I missing something?

0:09 Nice to see they've apparently developed a hybrid MD-88/A320 cockpit now? And the PF/PNF cadence is never accurate in this show. :/ Ugh.

its 2011 yet planes still go down due to bird strikes..
otto2rk 5 months ago 2
@otto2rk Not true, only BIG group of birds that fly into all of the planes engines could make a plane go down, like what happened in this case.
Small birds don't do damage to engines, and if a big bird hit and destroyed one engine, it could easily fly with the remaining ones :)

Lines that hit me:
Captain: "you got any ideas?" -> so calm like they only had a flat tire with a car on the highway
Passenger 1) "be ready at the doors" -> s/he knew his/ her life depended on the folks at the exit
Passenger 2) "we're ready"-> they knew other lives depended on them knowing how to open the door
Fortunately everything turned out into a happy ending :)
