Wow 4:07, you can see those guys ducking and the tracers going right over their heads! Sounds like a crazy ass firefight. Hope everyone made it out ok.
ALERT: 16 British paratroopers from 22 SAS Regiment out of Credenhill United Kingdom were captured in Sirte last night. All others in a squad of 44 were killed while landing. Casualty figures for members of the 82nd Airbone out of North Carolina whose transport plane was shot down at Ras Lanuf days ago while trying to land to secure the now destroyed largest Libyan oilfields are not yet confirmed. RAF pilot Julian Manyon is still being held in Libyan custody.
Go GIs, Brits and ANA! We need surge 2.0 - a corp level cordon and sweep of east A-stan with a complimentary Paki operation in the NWF of P-stan, but I'm not holding my breath!
@Afghani5tan Okay Spanky - I like the ANA - BRAVE - I do, but do you really think they're ready to take on the talibs by themselves? War is more than just bravery - discipline, leadership, and logistics are required. As long as the talibs remain allied with AQ we (ISAF) need to be there and to crush them. I think without ISAF, your A-stan would quickly return to the regional warlords' outright control, and the talibs have already shown what they can do in those circumstances.
@Redheadfury Right, most of the warlords were co-opted into the Afghan government by being made governors. This was intended as a transitional solution to kick start Afghan cooperation, end systemic feudalism, and bring eventual change by democratic processes. The subversion of the democratic process by these warlords, who naturally wish to maintain power, might have been better countered - but hey, this is Afghanistan. So, good intentions vs reality of power - what else to do?
So why are we in the Mid-East again?
