  • extant apes (great apes) and us share common ancestry. features for the ancestors: review A.Afarensis, A.Africanus, or my hominid vids. if you want genetic evidence, search on youtube 'evidence for common ancestry' 2 great vids from Bonobobill regarding ERV's and the evidence on Human Chromosome 2 Fusion.

  • Apes and humans probably had a common ancestor, right? First, do we know what features this ancestor possessed genetically and or morphologically? Second, what is known about ape evolution? I mean, how did apes evolve from this ancestor, and where is the evidence?

  • @cruelfate45 Chimpanzees and Bonobos are the closest relative of Humans. Our last common ancestor with them is from about 7 million years ago which is after this species branched away from gorillas (about 8 to 9 million years ago). Humans are apes. The evolution of apes themselves might date back to proconsol africanus from 18 million years ago.

Morphologically, I think our best understanding is that this last common ancestor of humans and chimps would be very close to chimps.
