Hendrix reincarnated as A blonde white guy ......my god resolution reminds me of 'May this be Love' from Jimi....this is one of the most gorgeous things Ive ever heard!
ibanez rx series.... i have one, my first guitar... i love it alot... i saw andy in fort dodge guitar clinic in 1996, he made me a better player... i was 12 at the time, and he changed my fuckin life!
This is the first I've heard of Andy Timmons, but to play like that with such a basic guitar sound is amazing. Most guitarists (including myself) rely alot on effects to cover up minor flaws, but this guy is GOOD!!!
@petedogg369 Aren't they the ones who did "naughty naughty"? Wow, its like Winger with the lame pop metal music but a smokin guitar who never really got to shine!
@SLee1337 nice point my man. but on this particular song I only hear hendrix style. And maybe 500 years later, hendrix will be inspiring just like every famous classical composer.
We can all learn so much from Andy Timmons - tone - phrasing - melody - gaps, speed - slow passages - it's the mixture of texture that makes his playing so memorable.
@johnland82 Ive learned from my decade of playing, to give up on trying to emulate, instead you take what you like and make it yours by just playing what you think would go
@ Uva2323 Solo artists are too good to be in a band? Andy is awesome but for the sake of being obnoxious need I remind you that he was the lead guitarist for a band called Danger Danger....
@MaralizeLegawana his AT-300 was SOO much more beautiful to me. No pick guard, a magnificent stained mahogany finish, wrapped in a black sunburst, and black pickups which barely showed their existence. The tremolo was a wilkinson on it too, so it wasnt any outrageous edge pro tremolo that didnt work either. I just dont understand why Andy would make this new guitar and take the other off the line. I LOVED that guitar....
@ShadowLancer128 Mate, i'm pretty sure the AT-100 was the original; The 200 and 300 came a few years after. And the trem on this guitar is a Wilkinson, He hasn't used an edge type bridge since his days in Danger Danger and early solo career.
@Tubyboulin Well, case in point. he made a guitar, made some enhancements to it, then took the upgrade off the line and ran the original. Yeah, that makes a SHIT load of sense to me.
Andy Timmons is great, I'm a HUGE John Petrucci fan and I've seen live people like Steve Vai and Paul Gilbert live, and so far the guitarist I think has played in a more soulful way really feeling his music is Andy Timmons.
Eyes closed lots of the time and moving his body flowing with the music, simply great, and he seems to be a very down to earth and nice guy instead of a guitar playing diva like others...
Girls of Ipanema ... playing 'silly things', expecting more from a great guitarist, he has to meet more of Tom Jobim not to talk shit, this song resolution for example is much simpler than any music of Tom Jobim, comment miserable
I thought the same way you did when he said that. I don't think he meant 'silly' in a mean way though. By 'silly ' he may have meant 'anything that came to my mind'.
@vinnilband it was a joke in the context of the scene he was creating for us.. its kind of like watching a fat person walk down the street and then someone playing a tuba sound to mimick their walking.... andy is cool down to earth and most likely meant no offense to jobim... that been said i think the stuff IS "silly" but i can say that since i'm not a well known anybody and can say whatever the hell i want.. ;)
What's cool is that I've seen dozens of AT videos and he sounds almost the same on all of them. Andy's tone is obviously fundamentally great sounding, coming straight from his amp, because regardlessly of the camera/setup the vid was shot with, the tone stays the same - amazing.
I have been playing for quite a few years now, and thus I have been researching guitarists for a long time. Andy Timmons is by far one of my favorites. He has the best tone I have ever heard, and I don't care what anyone says, he is one of the most amazing players around. He can shred when he wants to.
I completely agree! Andy Timmons is one of the best players I've ever seen. If u listen to "Groove or Die" or the end of "Cry for You", he shreds, but the beautiful subtle melodic Ideas is always apparent in every aspect of his playing. I thought the best tone I heard was Eric Johnson's, but then I discovered Andy Timmons, and my jaw just hit the ground when I heard his absolutely gorgeous tone! Andy Timmons FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ever listen to andy james much? hes an amazing player to, listen to shine on through, or his in the style of vai tracks... and hes a SHRED GOD, his album is MINDblowing... one of the gods of our time aswell!!
Oh my god, thank you so much, you have no idea how much.. I was browsing around here, and all I have seen were young guitarists using a guitar like if it was a video game. Today even my plumber "shreds" on Malmsteen on Sundays and post a video, crazy time I tell you.... Your video was a DEEP breath of fresh air, it has a lot of soul...Again, thank you man, all is not that doomed after all, guys like you still exist !
This is something most wonderful what i heared in my life! Jep Andy Timmons is a true master in melodys, he`s playing is so touching & the sound,,, waaaaah! I hope he will come to Slovenia!
This song could hardly be more beautiful. I wish more of his stuff was just kinda' straight and melodic like this instead of sounding like he's trying to catch up w/ Satriani or E.J.:\
Maybe that's not a fair assessment, but I think most of you out there know what I mean. Fantastic talent either way.
@yobhsiFehT I hear you man and I think I agree about 50% because he does the melodic stuff incredibly well. But I do have to admit it's fun to hear him just rip it up sometimes too
Nah Just talking to that bellend. who thinks he´s being innovative. He´s pathetic man. check him out. He´s actually promoting that shite. I´d just kill meself.
Evidently, you my friend are contradicting yourself. You tell me I need to back my points up when I don´t see any of these "thousands of innovations" you boast about that magically make you better than Andy Timmons. Personally I don´t think I need to back up what i´m saying because what you are saying speaks for itself.
Andy Timmon´s may not be innovative by your standards. IMHO when you got that tone and phrasing like his, you´re set for life. You deserve to be alone.
Here man i watched your videos. You´re embarrising yourself promoting that stuff man. You´re in your 30s but i know teenage musicians with more common sense than you.
You can´t play. You think you´re being original but your just making the guitar fart man.
How can you plagarise tone and phrasing????
Maybe Andy Timmons is Generic because like all the other great guitarists, he plays music. I´m gonna watch your videos again man. I need a good laugh.
That makes tonnes more sense. However everything new has already been done. In this day and age it´s nearly impossible to be innovative. These days to appeal to younge audiences guitarists try to be as flashy as possible.
I like the sound of real music. You can´t beat the likes of stevie ray vaughan. Timmon´s reminds me of him.
Technically i think you´re missing the point when it comes to plagiarism. Plagiarism is blatanly stealing someone´s ideas.
Playing guitar takes years of learning which you get from being influenced by your heroes. Everyone has different influences and heroes. Every note on a guitar is like a snowflake, every guitarist whether good or bad is unique. Therefore. You saying all guitarists are homogeneuos is wrong.
What i´m trying to say is just because he´s bringing nothin obviously new to the table doesn´t make him generic.
I don't think you can defend your music like that. A lot of music is panned just because it's shit. Zep and Sabbath have somewhat stood the test of time, yes?
Work on your bends. PLEASE work on your bends and phrasing.
well that isnt true, it isnt plagiarising, its borrowing elements from influences and building upon them, timmons is an amalgation of his own influences, and he has done fine in carving out his own sound and way of playing
i cant say i agree with you, you do have valid points but you simply take things way too far. maybe you need to tone down your opinion abit more so others can empathaise.
yes people would try to be creative and innovative and find their own voice admidst the ocean of music, however realisticly, people need to first learn the theory and the fundamentals of how to play. once you have that under your belt(and it takes years) only then can you begin to strive to forge your own unique sound
decorating your guitar? sounds pretty juvenile to me although understandable. imo you seem to be more concerned with style than with music. i have had a look at your innovations, and they all come from the rock/metal influences, but you seem to be over infatuated with creating those types of sound(which dont get me wrong is great!)rather than trying to come up with some more relatable deep musical concepts that truly push musical frontiers(that of melody and harmony)
hey buddy. thats great and all but just shut up and listen to the music. mmkay? :)
we all get it, be creative. we will all take your masterful youtube comment advice. you sir have changed my life completely.
andy timmons is absolutely perfect. and as for plagerism... gotta start somewhere. not just gonna be born knowing exactly what equipment and tone you're looking for. idols man, theyre there for inspiration.
@TouchingYou I shouldn't dignify this with a response but I felt you should know that EVH is notorious for overpriced signature gear and being a copyright/ money hungry guy for the last decade or so....I can't believe somebody would say THIS guy and his undeniably signature tone isn't music...Ask andy if he cares about your opinion.
I will.Mainly because I know every time you post , you will argue with anything.I deal with people like you that can't recognize emotion and soul. If anybody heard this guy on the radio and knew who he was, they would hear that he's playing. I could argue with a fencepost , but this I know better than anything. And people should never be allowed to put down someone unless they can do it better. And you sir, can't.
@TouchingYou A true guitarist loves the way a guitar looks without having to add to it. I LOVE the way my GUITAR looks, not a bunch of shit I put on it. You show your CREATIVITY in your playing, not what your guitar looks like.
andy timmons has a unique way of phrasing, one that is instantly recognisable and very emotive, so yes he is innovative in his own little way.
i dont think the guy(andy timmons) cares about his look, just his music, and so it should be, its pretty amusing that you are disparaging a musician based on their equipment and look!
you make it seem like its either one or the other.
music is both a science and an art, you use the science in order to create the art, music doesnt come from OUT of nowhere, music comes from all the experiences and influences you have hitherto had, perhaps you need to stop overthinking things, if music sounds good to your ear then why should it being not what you deem as 'creative' detract from the experience? norman brown is a 'ripoff' of benson but he is anamazing guitarist so who reallycares?
i didn't say satriani is better than him, all satch's student got better than him especially steve vai and kirk hammet or maybe even friedman, we must admit that great guitarists like timmons will reach this greatness without satiani's help
watch their guitar showdown, satriani and timmons the mentor vs the student
I'm sorry, did you use Kirk Hammett in the same context as Joe Satriani and Steve Vai? And THEN, did you somehow allude that Kirk Hammett is better than Joe Satriani? At what? Catching lucky breaks?
sorry if i can't make my point as clear as it should be, what i'm really saying is, yes maybe all of satriani's students is better than him now, but without satriani's help, maybe they won't play this good,,
sorry bout my diction, i'm a filipino, i'm working on it
@diablosrising to be fair, i seriously doubt you can judge any "band'' musician solely on what you hear on (in this case) a metallica record. he has to play within the confines of being in metallica.
Posting from my friend's account: I would like to applaud you as a musician. You honestly get what it means to live, breathe, and feel music. I bask in your glory as a fellow musician, though I may play classical music. Thank you for actually caring about music and getting what it really means.
He used to be in a band called Danger Danger. It's a late 80's early 90's glam metal band. Very good songs. I suggest you listen to some of their stuff.
The girl from ipanema isn't a funny song. young and tall and tan and lovely the girl from ipanema goes walking. ha ha oooh she's so soft and lovely.

Not only can you plagiarize tone and phrasing, that's the explicit goal of most guitarists, who don't deny it.
They even sell knockoffs of famous guitarists guitars so people can imitate their heroes. That's not healthy.
Creativity is great, and if you say my music is bad, you should know that zeppelin was panned too. As was Sabbath and others.

Nope.

well that isnt true, it isnt plagiarising, its borrowing elements from influences and building upon them, timmons is an amalgation of his own influences, and he has done fine in carving out his own sound and way of playing
ydoggbdoggbigG2 2 years ago 2
"Devil's Haircut" by Beck... we ALL love that song, b/c it's just stolen from "Taxman" essentially.
When a guitarist does NOT decorate their guitar, it tells me they don't love CREATIVITY or FUN.
tells me they got into music for the WRONG reasons. (Girls. Money. Avoiding a day job.)
Eddie Van Halen and Vai are "greats" b/c they didn't just get creative or innovative with PLAYING. They had style in ALL areas.
More guitarists should be INSPIRED by that. Don't paint yr git like EVH
TouchingYou 2 years ago
i cant say i agree with you, you do have valid points but you simply take things way too far. maybe you need to tone down your opinion abit more so others can empathaise.
yes people would try to be creative and innovative and find their own voice admidst the ocean of music, however realisticly, people need to first learn the theory and the fundamentals of how to play. once you have that under your belt(and it takes years) only then can you begin to strive to forge your own unique sound
ydoggbdoggbigG2 2 years ago 3
decorating your guitar? sounds pretty juvenile to me although understandable. imo you seem to be more concerned with style than with music. i have had a look at your innovations, and they all come from the rock/metal influences, but you seem to be over infatuated with creating those types of sound(which dont get me wrong is great!)rather than trying to come up with some more relatable deep musical concepts that truly push musical frontiers(that of melody and harmony)
ydoggbdoggbigG2 2 years ago 3
how does any of this shit have to do with the video. Just listen to Timmons rip the guitar. This is Andy Timmons not fucking Coldplay!
coxfox10 2 years ago
hey buddy. thats great and all but just shut up and listen to the music. mmkay? :)
we all get it, be creative. we will all take your masterful youtube comment advice. you sir have changed my life completely.
andy timmons is absolutely perfect. and as for plagerism... gotta start somewhere. not just gonna be born knowing exactly what equipment and tone you're looking for. idols man, theyre there for inspiration.
AForetich 2 years ago 2
@TouchingYou I shouldn't dignify this with a response but I felt you should know that EVH is notorious for overpriced signature gear and being a copyright/ money hungry guy for the last decade or so....I can't believe somebody would say THIS guy and his undeniably signature tone isn't music...Ask andy if he cares about your opinion.
rupdog1220 2 years ago
I never said EVH isn't a crook, so why did you change the subject?
WHO amongst you will say Timmons is more creative than Vai or Fripp or Frith?
Or will you argue that creativity isn't that important?
Some of you people scare the shit out of me!
It isn't that hard to IMITATE a great tone someone ELSE invented, is it?
Create some ORIGINAL tones. Y'all would've insulted me if I invented the electric guitar, saying "acoustics rule!"
TouchingYou 2 years ago
I will.Mainly because I know every time you post , you will argue with anything.I deal with people like you that can't recognize emotion and soul. If anybody heard this guy on the radio and knew who he was, they would hear that he's playing. I could argue with a fencepost , but this I know better than anything. And people should never be allowed to put down someone unless they can do it better. And you sir, can't.

i find timmons more creative than vai
longination 2 years ago
@TouchingYou A true guitarist loves the way a guitar looks without having to add to it. I LOVE the way my GUITAR looks, not a bunch of shit I put on it. You show your CREATIVITY in your playing, not what your guitar looks like.
freaknbigpanda 2 years ago 2
andy timmons has a unique way of phrasing, one that is instantly recognisable and very emotive, so yes he is innovative in his own little way.
i dont think the guy(andy timmons) cares about his look, just his music, and so it should be, its pretty amusing that you are disparaging a musician based on their equipment and look!
ydoggbdoggbigG2 2 years ago 2
Most people CONFUSE music as a SCIENCE rather than an ART form and I think that's bad. (Maybe you think differently.)
ANYONE can play a sad chord and make you feel sad. ANYONE can play a rocking riff and make you feel rocked.
THAT'S ANTI-creativity.
Music should be CREATIVE.
I can create a Zeppelin or Beatles ripoff and EVERYONE will love it, b/c, duh, I'm plagiarizing something people already love.
EX: "Still of the Night" by Whitesnake. I enjoy it, but it's a RIP OFF.
TouchingYou 2 years ago
you make it seem like its either one or the other.
music is both a science and an art, you use the science in order to create the art, music doesnt come from OUT of nowhere, music comes from all the experiences and influences you have hitherto had, perhaps you need to stop overthinking things, if music sounds good to your ear then why should it being not what you deem as 'creative' detract from the experience? norman brown is a 'ripoff' of benson but he is anamazing guitarist so who reallycares?

in this song ther's a lot of jimi!!!not satriani...I played with timmons for 5 days is incredible...better than satriani!lot of texas feel!

i didn't say satriani is better than him, all satch's student got better than him especially steve vai and kirk hammet or maybe even friedman, we must admit that great guitarists like timmons will reach this greatness without satiani's help
watch their guitar showdown, satriani and timmons the mentor vs the student
adrianmer666 2 years ago
Are you sure?kirk hammet is better than timmons?...there's non satriani help...do you now the king pown?
paoloinv 2 years ago 4
i didnt say that,
adrianmer666 2 years ago
I'm sorry, did you use Kirk Hammett in the same context as Joe Satriani and Steve Vai? And THEN, did you somehow allude that Kirk Hammett is better than Joe Satriani? At what? Catching lucky breaks?
diablosrising 2 years ago 34
sorry if i can't make my point as clear as it should be, what i'm really saying is, yes maybe all of satriani's students is better than him now, but without satriani's help, maybe they won't play this good,,
sorry bout my diction, i'm a filipino, i'm working on it
adrianmer666 2 years ago
@diablosrising to be fair, i seriously doubt you can judge any "band'' musician solely on what you hear on (in this case) a metallica record. he has to play within the confines of being in metallica.
kempobrad 1 year ago
@diablosrising kirk doesn't know how to play guitar, he's to obsesed with his wah
