I have discovered his music coincidently when I was living in Philly, did continue to follow in istanbul and still do in London. He is an inspiration, great song writer and singer and real person
I will always be amazed by what poses as talent in what is left of the music business while geniuses like Gaines will never command the respect they deserve....music industry, you are hereby put on notice until you learn that artistry oozes from one's soul and not the homogenized schlock you keep trying to serve from the same crappy blender!
Jeffrey Gaines is just amazing. My God. Unfortunately, he came around when grunge did, and he got swallowed up. He should be a household name. He has so much talent. Between this track and "A Dark Love Song"...it's impossible to choose a favorite. Jeffrey, I'm sure you already know this, but your fans are out there. Don't ever stop doing what you do.
One of my all time favorite artists. He opened for Melissa Etheridge back in early 90's. Saw him a couple of months later in a club on Beale Street in Memphis. There was the HUGE stage area. He sang for about an hour. It was just incredible. Instead of wrapping up he told everyone his voice was feeling rough so how about we join him on stage so he could go straight acoustic. He played for like another hour. I was a fan before but left just amazed. Incredible talent & genuinely nice guy.
I remember listening to this song over and over and over back in my high school days. I remember getting it on a free sampler cd at the mall and this was one of the best songs I had ever heard. I've been looking for it for years I would love to have this on my Ipod. I teared up just now hearing it and every word came back to me as if it was yesterday. GREAT SONG!!!! Should have been bigger and will ALWAYS be one of my favorites.
what the fuck...why the hell hasn't this dude been filling the front pages or a guest on night time talk? i don't watch much tv...but the media surely will make sure they find a way to propagate someone.
after the years of fucking beckham, ozzy's family, and amy whinehouse...what the hell?
Like many here, i never understood how someone so talented, with such an amazing voice and amazing music never get big or famous as he deserved, I remeber seeing this video in the early 90 and loving this artist immediatly, thanx so much for posting.
yeah this guy has been rockin for years...first saw/ met him in charleston sc back when hootie and the blowfish-edwin mccain and indigo girls were getting going..early nineties. the guy puts on an eqaully captivating show wheather solo or with a band.. he is a true perfortmer and a cool guy to have a few beers with.
I love Jeffrey Gaines. I went to see Melissa Ethridge in SF. JG was a backup singer in her group. She introduced him & he played his own stuff - this stuff. He rocked & I fell in love! Bought his CD at the end of the show & played it to death. Where is he now??
@taxpayr he's still playing, is hitting PA pretty soon. This video was what turned me on to him (I briefly knew Otis, the director, who did this with a 10 millimeter camera and over-exposed it, brilliant).
Lisa - Are you by chance from the Harrisburg, PA area? Jeffrey went to high school at Central Dauphin East High in Harrisburg. I live about three miles from there. I remember seeing him play at some local clubs back in the late 80's.
I remember the Metron!! It became Club Met a little later on. I think it might be closed now. I saw Jeffrey there once. That was a great place to catch a show. I also saw Tesla, Iron Maiden and a band called Souls at Zero there.
great, I've been a huge fan of his for 20 years, evr since i heard him on mmr, and xpn, great songs, great performer. I have done covers of lots of his stuff, neat to see a rock version of this song...I think this is how he envisioned himself at the start. love all his stuff! big influence on me, I got to play guitar for him once, did not want to stop...very cool!
so raw and emotionally capivating---can't wait to see him again in june at the gfs in hamilton, nj. jeff is full of lessons for all of us...keep it coming!!
a great and severely underrated song from one of the best troubadours of the past 20 years. jeff is an uncut diamond, worth a million, but being overlooked for corporate shit. great great songwriter, powerful vox, no bullshit, ever.
is this song justifying his headmasters or condemning them?

this is a song I heard on high school and it so much hit the spot - very few did that to me back then.
I've been searching this song for years and years, not remembering the name of the song of the artist.
today I came across this video by mistake and it all came back to me.
I see my thoughts are already in the comments about how under rated this guy is....this is such a great song with great music, great lyrics...
