Besides The Goonies, and maybe Little Mermaid, this was by far my favorite movie growing up. The visuals were dazzling and the whole movie surreal. Its one of those movies that is timeless because it wasn't necessarily for children, the themes and symbolism are quite adult watching it now, and Tim Curry is absolutely wicked!
OMG ......i so loved this movie when it came out in 1985............for that year the special effects we're amazing......i actually just finished watching ,and i've always loved this song omg i still have the 12inch album sound track and cassette . how old is that.........lol
"what have we here?a little boy"Tim Curry was awesome is this movie.this movie was epic in my opinion and one of the greatest movies Tom Cruise has ever done.
I concur with EVERYONE here that this is Curry's best performance ever! he blew away any evil performance i've ever seen in my life!.I remember when this first came out(i bought it),my gf at the time loved it too. However,Td's version was fourfold better
Tim Curry, James Earl Jones and Sean Connery are the three greatest voices in the history of movies. Tim did an incredible job in Fern Gully as well. I will watch anything any one of these three icons does. Of course...Hunt for the Red October was thus the pinnacle for me.
This movie is one of my all-time favorites along with Billy Zane's Invincible. For anyone who is interested, there is more than one version of Legend. I have it on tape and on disk and they are different. Scenes have been left out and the soundtrack was changed on the disk. There must have been some altercation between Tangerine Dream and the producers. I noticed there is another version for sale now that is called the Director's Cut. I agree that Tim Curry was awesome.
Thank you so much for the information about the "Legend" movie (director's cut version) and soundtrack. It is good to know what I am getting should I decide to purchase the Director's Cut version. Thanks again.
The Dark Lord in Legend is an awesome villain, much like Darth Vader from the Star Wars movies and Grigori Rasputin from the cartoon movie, Anastasia.
We have three MAJOR components - A young/innocent Tom Cruise as the lead hero, the amazing Tim Curry as the antagonist, and the most amazing director Ridley Scott. This movie has been and always be my absolute favorite. Tim Curry actually got the job because of his performance in Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Actually, this song is Bryan Ferry...it's not noted correctly. Still does not take away from it's integrity. Yes, I do still believe in unicorns. :-)

I love this movie all around. The whole plot was the pure definition of good versus evil. And everyone had there parts, whether it was Tim Curry as Darkness or Tom Cruise as Jack. They had there roles, and they executed them beautifully. This movie was genius, plain and simple.
One of most under-rated fantasy movies ever made. I thought everyone did an excellent job. I rescently got the new director's cut Blu-ray version of this movie, which was the european version+. The sad thing about it is, that Riddley cut the movie to pieces after the first focus group had a couple stoners that were complaining about several things including length. I was originally going to be over 2 hours long.
@ColJohnMatrix not Ridley. Fox executives. They also decided to take the cut version to Tangerine Dream to do the soundtrack. Scott rly didnt have anything to do with the decision. But are we surprised? lol no. Fox likes to mutilate anything of artistic value due to their executives' paranoia
@ColJohnMatrix the directors cut is always worse than the theatrical version. i can think of a few scenes in LEGEND that were cut that should have been left in!
@ColJohnMatrix had u watched the directors cut with the directors commentary you would be well aware that it was the studio who cut the film to bits, something that Mr. Scott was very resentful of.
"You think you have won! What is light without dark? What are you without me? I am a part of you all. You can never defeat me. We are brothers eternal"! Ahh, to have a deep voice like that of Darkness.
Awesome song, i saw this movie in theaters when i was 4 with my big brother Neil and enjoyed it. A nice fantasy epic that is enjoyable in both versions, a wonderful cross between Willow and The Princess Bride. Maybe i should do a Princess Bride AMV with this song included
i loved this films music by tangerine dream.i bought the CD now deleted, and the hard to find 20th anniversary edition CD. just wish they had put that score on the DVD instead of the original USA version jerry goldsmith score PANTS! i want the european score we know and love ,is your love strong enough, loved by the sun, the dance, the lord of darkness, made the film.any person who watched the film in 85 listened to that score, what the hell were they thinking using the goldsmith score,
Tangerine Dream did not compose this. They had nothing to do with this song (although they did all the other songs on the soundtrack).
This song was previously an out-take from the recording sessions for "Avalon", which was the last album by the band Roxy Music (Bryan Ferry's band up until then). He wrote it.
This song also includes David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) on guitar - Something I actually didn't realise until more recently.
Tim Curry's portrayal of Darkness left a really profound mark on me. He pulled of something I'd have thought was nearly impossible - to imbue Darkness with a real, haunting eroticism. My favourite performance of his, hands down.
@Darwinsmom I agree 100%, Tim Curry did an excellent job as Darkness, plus his acting is flawless in everything he does and he definitely pulled this roll off without a hitch!! Not to mention luggin' around all that prosthetic and make-up work, while staying deep into character...Thumbs Up to him!! He certainly made the movie and it's still a great flick to watch. Actually, I like all his work and his 'Pennywise' in Stephen King's "IT" was excellent too!
I never grow tired of the soundtrack OR the Movie. Oddly, I never hear Tom Cruise mention this . Tim Curry was great and Mia Sara was equally awesome. I don't care what anyone says....this movie will always be on my 'movie library shelf' !!!
Bryan Ferry's voice is eerily haunting in this song....I loved the movie, Tim Curry was amazing as the Devil....Mia Sara was beautiful as Lilly......Is your love strong enough? Like a rock in the sea. Am I asking too Much? Just one beat of your heart, is stranger than fantasy...Love the lyrics.

@Baax3526 your the first person i seen to say that everyone notes this movie for tom cruise strange because everyone i seen that comments on this movie its normally praising Mr curry's fantastic depiction of Darkness
@Baax3526 I agree, I have the dvd with the extra features and his suit weighed like 200 lbs, he was in make up for like eight hours to get it on he said the contacts burned his eyes and the fangs he wore hurt his mouth. Tim Curry did an awesome job.
@Baax3526 not sure that people haven't been giving props to Tim Curry?! most people bash Tom Cruise don't they? anyone can see that Tim Curry's performance here was as good as it gets. as believable as believable can be for a Sci-fi/fantasy movie.
@Baax3526 My favorite Ridley Scott film. I get a lot of flak from my fellow film maker friends over that. I think perhaps it is the kid that factors toward my love of this film to a degree.
@Baax3526 I agree. I use to watch this movie with my Mom and sisters on basic TV around '88. I use to be so scared of the "Big Red Man" as we called him. I later found out who that actor Tim Curry was...and he is so talented. Movies are filled with CGI and green screen crap. LEGEND = EPIC MOVIE!
@Baax3526 I totally agree! Tim Curry is the best part of this whole movie! I don't watch it for Tom Cruise. I actually think that his character is kind of childish, and bland. I watch the movie for Tim Curry as Darkness!!!
@Baax3526 i freakin LOVED tim curry in this. he was awesome, far better than tom cruise. seriously when i think about this movie the first thing that pops into my mind is Darkness, then the little goblin dudes, and the cute dwarf guys and the unicorns and Meg, Lilly then mabye Jack, i mean he did a good job but NOTHIN compared to TIm Curry, so i completely agree with your post
@EssedariusMaiestas ....................Stop, go say this to your diary or something I like this movie becuz I like it don't call me a fiction hunter you do not know how I see the world or how I enjoy the things I enjoy.
I had this on vhs tape and played it till it broke cried got another one for christmas . This song reminds me of my boyfriend so much . And he is a big David Gilmore fan and this song makes me think of him when I here it and this song is a song that means so much whne you find someone you really love like Jack did in the movie . This song just fited this movie so well and its so great to here it . I would play it back and back just to here it as a kid at the end of the movie thats why it broke.
This movie was the best movie ever watching as a kid . It was so amazeing to every dream you couls imagine as a kid .A great fairy tale movie never will there ever be another one to top this . Even lord of the rings was not as good as this movie and this movie never got the respected it deserved .And David Gilmores guitar in this is astounding like always .Just a great everything went into this makeing this movie
How on Earth can this movie be underrated? I don't think my childhood could have been complete without this gem. I saw it yesterday after so long... The make-up is so awesome in this... I mean... most movies of today suck balls in my opinion, but this was like the age of awesome realistic make-up, Avatar can suck it.
I remember that after I walked out of the theater having seen this movie everything felt surreal...like I had been transported to some kind of alternate reality, and no I wasn't stoned....this movie ROCKED..still does
Listen to Michael Tsarion on the youtube. he is the worlds premier conspiracy researcher/author/lecturer. Leo Zagami and Dr. Bill Deagle are highly informative as well.
Legend. THe Crow. and the Craft were lik my first movies and i luuuuuuuuuuuv luv luv it.. this song makes it all the better .. ty for putting it up :)~~~
thank you for putting the original up. It's so much stronger on its own. I don't like that Bryan Ferry became a soundtrack singer for a while there, but with the song HELP ME for the Fly and this one he always outdid himself. Again, thanks for reproducing it in all of its original beauty.
I fell in love with this movie and its soundtrack when I was just a little girl. When I got into Jr high, I delved deeper into Bryan Ferry & the Immortal Roxy Music. This song will always strike a seductive chord with me.
It depend's on witch verson you get, their is the US version with had this sound track to it, or the other, longer version witch had the Jerry Goldsmithe soundtrack to it. personally I LOVE the US version better. But all in all it's a fantastic film, extramily visuel and beautyful.
It certainly proves that bigger isn't always better. It is a beautiful film, but it fails in several categories. I agree that the versions are quite different (the director's cut is better becaue it makes more sense). I's not a bad movie, just not a great one. I personally like it ONLY for Rob Bottin's make-up effects and Tim Curry as Darkness (awesome). Go see it, it's a good view!
4 people need to be paid a visit by Darkness!

@Baax3526 I totally agree! Tim Curry is the best part of this whole movie! I don't watch it for Tom Cruise. I actually think that his character is kind of childish, and bland. I watch the movie for Tim Curry as Darkness!!!
miyagisan2012 6 months ago
@Baax3526 i freakin LOVED tim curry in this. he was awesome, far better than tom cruise. seriously when i think about this movie the first thing that pops into my mind is Darkness, then the little goblin dudes, and the cute dwarf guys and the unicorns and Meg, Lilly then mabye Jack, i mean he did a good job but NOTHIN compared to TIm Curry, so i completely agree with your post

.
@maj1986,
"legend" is more like a documentary, only given life with human faces so we can be entertained without being frightened.
for the typical 'fiction' hunter, i suggest they read 'the new york times' or 'the wall street journal'.
-.-

@EssedariusMaiestas ....................Stop, go say this to your diary or something I like this movie becuz I like it don't call me a fiction hunter you do not know how I see the world or how I enjoy the things I enjoy.

Love this film.
"The dreams of youth are the regrets of maturity."
"You think you have won. What is light without dark? I am a part of you all. You can never defeat me. We are brothers, eternal."
Ahh Darkness.

Listen to Michael Tsarion on the youtube. he is the worlds premier conspiracy researcher/author/lecturer. Leo Zagami and Dr. Bill Deagle are highly informative as well.

It's such a shame that it got bad reviews from the media, but great because it's a classic to people everywhere. THIS MOVIE ROCKS SOX!!!
LADYESCHER 2 years ago 4
thank you for putting the original up. It's so much stronger on its own. I don't like that Bryan Ferry became a soundtrack singer for a while there, but with the song HELP ME for the Fly and this one he always outdid himself. Again, thanks for reproducing it in all of its original beauty.

Awesome song. I like that the cover to the album has the best part of the movie on it.

VsWomen 3 years ago
It certainly proves that bigger isn't always better. It is a beautiful film, but it fails in several categories. I agree that the versions are quite different (the director's cut is better becaue it makes more sense). I's not a bad movie, just not a great one. I personally like it ONLY for Rob Bottin's make-up effects and Tim Curry as Darkness (awesome). Go see it, it's a good view!
