In general I am opposed to the death penalty not because some people don't deserve it but because there are many cases in which we simply cannot be 100% sure. Also, it is less expensive to lock someone up for life w/out parole than to have the state execute someone; and this is how it should be. In a life or death trial, before "we the people" execute anyone, any questionable conduct, suppression of evidence, or new information of any kind should be examined with the utmost criticality. It is insane to deny introduction of evidence because time has passed. It is insane to allow a state to destroy evidence that could exonerate someone just because he has already been executed (Roger O'Dell, Virginia). It is insane to let politicians who's careers depend upon the appearance of being tough on crime make life and death decisions.
