Dependence is NOT hope but servitude and despair. Not wanting what's yours stolen is not selfish but righteous. Obama? No thanks, keep that nasty change.
I highly doubt that the 40,000,000 abortions performed each year are a result of rape/incest. If you can back it up w/ a semen sample and a conviction then you get the green light for an abortion.
The policy sought to have rape victims health insurance companies reimburse the city for the $500 to $1,200 cost of a forensic exam that is conducted after a sexual assault.
Does it mean that Palin hates rape victims, blames them for their assaults, etc.? No. Like many a Republican before her, she was shifting the cost of a government service off her books and onto others (in this case, she planned on health insurance providers and Medicaid picking up Wasilla's slack).

McCain actually voted against funding a massive telephone book-sized 1994 Crime Bill covering everything from street gangs to immigration to the size of a terrorist's jail cell. The rape exam is one tiny provision among hundreds of others. Planned Parenthood is disingenuous at best to falsely characterize McCain as purposefully voting against municipalities paying for rape exam kits when this complicated bill has hundreds of reasons to vote against it that has nothing to do with the rape kits.
Oh, sorry. I know when I've pushed too far. Google "emergency mental health crisis counseling" and good sources of help will pop right up for you. Best of luck with that.
Palin spokeswoman Maria Cornella told USA Today that Palin, does not believe, nor has ever believed, that rape victims should have to pay for an evidence-gathering test.
Gov. Palins position could not be more clear, Cornella said. To suggest otherwise is a deliberate misrepresentation of her commitment to supporting victims and bringing violent criminals to justice.
Either offer some verifiable source to prove otherwise or keep the Obama "smear Palin" talking points to yourselves.
"Palin spokeswoman Maria Cornella told USA Today that Palin, does not believe, nor has ever believed, that rape victims should have to pay for an evidence-gathering test"
Yeah right, in such huge metropolitan city of 6000 where everyone knows everyone it's easy to understand that with Palin's busy schedule that she was not aware of that Wasilla Council charged rape victims for the kit while Palin was a mayor there.
GlobalVillage, there is documentation that Wasilla paid for rape kits in the years 2000 and 2001 online (google "Wasilla Rape Kit Document Emerges") and absolutely NOT ONE piece of evidence that Wasilla ever charged a rape victim that I've seen. Maybe that's why Palin was not aware of a rape victim ever being charged. You think?
Bogus. John McCain voted against funding the massive 1994 Crime Bill that includes 240 sections of law covering everything from street gangs to immigration to the size of a terrorist's jail cell - a phone book sized bill. The rape exam provision is one small paragraph buried in that bill. Planned Parenthood should be ashamed for making this seem like McCain purposefully voted against women by making them pay for rape exam kits.
YouTube is overrun with smarmy anti-Palin propaganda about this bogus rape kit issue. According to FBI statistics, Wasilla had two rapes in 2000 and a couple more in 2001. Wasilla paid for all the rape kits. Google "A Wasilla Rape Kit Doc Emerges." Look at both sides. Google "Wasilla Debunking Kit" by Jim Geraghty. As for Palin signing off on the rape kit policy in Wasilla - wrong - she okayed the 2000 Wasilla BUDGET and hacks spin that fact as Palin signing off on charging for rape kits.
My point is that YOU likely never watch anything but MSNBC so I asked you to define what makes Fox "Faux Noise." This cutsey crap repeated by vainglorious bloggers as an excuse for thoughtful reasoned SOURCED information is exactly what Obama thrives on. Empty rhetoric. Make a point every now and then - ABOUT THE SUBJECT - instead of regurgitating useless insulting crap that doesn't take a minute of thought to cough up and spew onto to a keyboard.

An abroted child has no opportnities at all. THis is why you cant compare your abuse to an aborted baby. YOU JUST CANT.
dramaqueenrehab, I suggest you do a little more reading about what the Palin policy was and what it meant. A remarkable point that I have yet to see in print: Just how MANY sexual attacks are taking place in that town of 5,000 to 7,000 to cause a budgetary crisis. Shouldn't the Mayor AND the Governor be addressing that BEFORE the crimes take place? Senator Obama is NOT okay with medical personnel breaking the law and, unlike popular gossip withing the radical right, he is NOT proAbortion.
Being Pro Abortion is like being ProWar. Nobody WANTS either of those. As a victim of incest myself, I can say there are certain instances where abortion is appropriate. However, in most cases, this is not so.
I do agree with you that there couldn't have been that many kits needed in a town that small.I have read the policy and while it's tacky, I don't feel its morally wrong. I see the rape kit as a medical procedure done at the hospital, and should be billed as such. Just my opinion.
There's really nothing "medical" about an evidence collection kit. I did a little more research. It seems the FBI stats report only one rape in Wasilla during the time period when victims were being charged. There's something really screwy with this story. I read one account that believes this account was being charged for alcohol blood testing in order to make a case that bar hours should be cut back. It does not appear that the drunks and/or their insurance companies were billed.
It is "medical". It's done in a medical facility by medical personell. You're way it should be done by a CSI in a law enforcement facility. Can you imagine how traumitizing that would be???? If your shot, you're billed to take the bullet out. If you're hit by a DUI, you pay the bill. It's then your responsibility to sue for damages. If they never find the "perp" you're still responsible. It's unfortunate, but a fact of life. I think the drunks should be billed for blood tests.
"Being Pro Abortion is like being ProWar. Nobody WANTS either of those."
No, its not the same, there is no crime greater then killing innocent children who didnt do nothing to deserve it. You have a very sick and disgusting opinion my sister. Abortion can never be appropriate. Only a heartless and selfish person can say such a thing.
There are occasions when an abortion is necessary to save a woman's life. I am ProLife, but I do know that aborting a fetus is always a heart-rending decision that should be left to individuals, according to their individual belief systems, and their doctors.
I'm not heartless. I'm a mother of 3 who has had 4 miscarriages. Strongly opposed to abortion.STRONGLY OPPOSED TO OBAMA. However, I don't believe that a woman should be FORCED to give birth to her own aunt.
And it is the same thing. They both need to be the vey last resort in only extreme circumstances with innocent people losing their lives. And God will be the judge of me not you. It's opinions like yours that make ProLifers seem irrational. There are no black and white issues in life.
"However, I don't believe that a woman should be FORCED to give birth to her own aunt. "
Actually she should be forced. She dosent have the RIGHT to kill her own aunt. I know its not right what happened to the mother, but there are more then just one person involved. Her aunt could easily be put for adoption and have a life of her own.
There is a colossal wave of retribution that is about to inundate the religious right in this nation. They are going to drown in their own creepy sewage that is of their own making. America is tired of theocratic Republicans who have trampled upon the rights and freedom's of our democracy.
Not all people of faith should be included under one umbrella. I am a person of faith who is a registered Republican. As someone who is also ProLife and ProObama, I will never support a candidate who tramples upon constitutional rights. Let's face it, there are fanatics on both sides of the political aisle. All I'm asking is that you remember that not all people of faith are creepy. It's unfair to paint all of us with the same brush.
this video is complete bullshit. yes, mccain wants to overturn roe vs. wade. 1. because it's unconstitutional and 2. because he's pro-life. however, he still wants "abortion on demand" (don't you love that? sounds like freakin' tv pay-per-view) for rape victims, cases of incest, and situations where the mother's life is at risk. I am very pro-life and don't agree with these "exceptions", however, if this is what it takes to overturn the stupidest court case in history then so be it.
It's very clear what John McCain thinks about women's choice in the case of rape, incest, health of the mother as was shown in the debate tonight. You need to get your facts straight and start facing reality. The Republican cult has done far more damage with their religion based bullshit than we need. We don't need government being involved in women's personal lives. It is a fact that Sarah Palin did charge rape victims for the emergency exams. Sarah Palin is a controlling religious creep.

listen, my facts are straight (and i mean on the exceptions that mccain holds for abortion, the rest is tecnically opinion) facing reality? you first. Republican is a political party, not a cult. k? and i know that palin charged them, i'm not disputing that. anyway, "religion based bullshit" is what this great country was built on so don't knock it so quickly :)
Where in God's name did you get your information? Barack Obama has said no such thing. Sarah Palin, on the other hand, made victims of sexual assault pay for their evidence collection kits. Name another crime when victims are forced to pay to have their cases investigated and prosecuted. I am a Lector and Eucharistic Minister, but your uninformed comment makes it hard for me to remain graceful. If you believe in a President who respects life and treats all people humanely, vote Obama.
I am a Roman Catholic who is ProLife ProObama. I am also a survivor of sexual assault. Public policy needs to include rational discussions about all options available to women who should be allowed to make decisions after consultation with their doctors and according to their individual belief system.
A major point of the video is -- what other type of crime victims have to personally pay for the gathering of evidence used by the public prosecutors in order to get a trial of the accused criminals -- NO ONE
This policy was wickedly unconstitutional, especially against the 14th Amendment, which guarantees EQUAL PROTECTION OF THE LAWS FOR EVERYONE...
Past behavior is the best predictor of future actions -- so McCain/Palin can't be trusted to obey the law themselves, but they want us to???
Anti-choice groups have lobbied for language that says that anything that prevents implantation of a fertilized egg is abortion. That includes diaphragms, RU-486 and menstruation.
Rape victims are promised anonymity. Consequently, rape victims of Wasilla, AK or Phoenix, AZ cannot specifically be mentioned--- unless the victim chooses.
This video is not about identifying rape victims, it is about justice.
all that being said, cynthia, pleasure discussing things with you, even on a youtube comment page. it's nice to see people can still disagree civilly while still being cognizant of the other person's point of view. seems to be a rarity nowadays. whoever the next president ends up being, here's hoping they can get things back on track. that's what i'm really rooting for.
can someone point me in the direction of a single rape victim in wasilla that actually paid for the kits out of their own pocket? they actually charged the insurance companies, and not a single victim has ever been found that paid for the kits themselves. listen to the voiceover in this ad people... "women LIKE gretchen..." she's not from wasilla, and probably isn't even from Alaska. she's there recounting her own horror for the sole purpose of flaming the emotions of the viewer.
What about victims of rape who didnt have insurance? If someone cannot afford health insurance they probably cant come up with hundreds of dollars to pay for the exams. And without the rape kit charges most likely wont be pressed, and even if they are they are much more likely to be acquited, and another rapist will remain free.
you are ABSOLUTELY 100% correct. and i apologize to anyone who thinks i sounded boorish in my last comment. my only point was that none of the people you refer to came from wasilla under mayor palin's watch. if i'm wrong, point me to the info (specific please), and i'll gladly stand corrected.
You obviously are more educated regarding the statistics than I am. But Im a person who takes statements literally and there was nothing said to indicate she was from Alaska. They were careful to say women like Gretchen. The important thing is it gets the point across.
well that's my issue with the ad. the point it tries to make is that sarah palin is well, as the title of the clip (chosen by the uploader, i know) heartless toward rape survivors, when there's no real evidence to back up that claim. i really don't believe in my heart that palin is any more heartless toward a rape victim than obama is a supporter of ayers' bombings way back when. i guess what i'm saying is ALL these ads depend on tugging at the heart strings while being thin on the real facts.
I disagree. A key difference between Obama and Palin is what their alternatives were. Obama's alternative would be to stop supporting others via a charity just because it would mean working alongside someone who used to be a bad guy. Palin's alternative was to support rape victims. Obama acted for the greater good. Palin did not.
this is no smear (sadly). It has been reported in many major newspapers in depth. Some have suggested that she took this stance because of her feelings about the morning-after-pill and her ultra conservative views on abortion which don't allow for it even in cases of rape.
If she were a normal politician she would be asked directly and have to answer directly. The McCain campaign has deemed this off-script so we simply aren't hearing from her.
I'm completely disgusted. Even the IDEA of making a rape victim pay for the tests that will bring the criminal to justice is appalling. Whoever supports Palin needs to take a good hard look at themselves, and the freedoms they have now... because with McPain in the office, I foresee those rights being diminished in favor of an all-powerful government and DICTATORSHIP.
The only smears going on here are the ones Palin & McCain continue to use to sabotage the Obama campaign! Sarah Palin is a hypocrite. She condones sex between teens who aren't married, abuses her power as Governor of Alaska & she is a damn liar!
A smear is a lie or an untruth. A smear is a statement taken out of context in order to change what was meant. This is not a smear. This is fact. It is well-documented, public knowledge that Palin created policies that forbid her government from paying for evidence kits for rape victims. She did so because the kits also include a morning-after pill, intended to prevent pregnancy as a result of the rape. This ad simply states the fact. It portrays one of the victims of rape and this Palin policy.
Sarah Palin's administration approved an initiative to pay a $150 bounty to hunters who killed a wolf from an airplane in certain areas, hacked off the left foreleg, and brought in the appendage.
Sarah Palin has a brutal record of slaughtering wildlife, and she hopes to continue in her killing ways in particular, her very active and extensive promotion of aerial hunting of not just wolves, but bears also.
Sarah Palin left her "Politics for Dummies" book at home last night. I wouldn't hire this woman to represent a dumpster never mind the country! Please go home and take care of
your kids. This country needs real change, this isn't a TV gameshow. Your 15 minutes of fame were up last night.
She is a naive puppet being used by desperate republican party to pick up the dummy vote of American.
God doesn't need to forgive those making the ad; God needs to forgive Sarah Palin for subjecting women to paying for rape kits when she already expects women to bear the babies of their rapists. Your support of Sarah Palin is sick.
"She thinks the Morning After pill is an abortion pill, implying that life starts at conception. The fallacy here is that the MA pill prevents conception from ever happening. There's no abortion involved with it."
That's a very good point, Yawaya2. I'd like to see someone ask her point blank how the morning after pill works.
This sickens me, especially when "pro-life/ anti-choice" ppl try to argue adoption as great substitution, like carrying a raper's child for nine months or any child for that matter isn't a big deal. Well it is a big deal: mentally, physically, and economically.
No crime victim should ever be charged one penny for the investigation. Rape victims do not deserve what happened to them to start with and further victimizing them is just plain wrong.
Palin's religious views make for nonsensical policies in office.
She thinks the Morning After pill is an abortion pill, implying that life starts at conception. The fallacy here is that the MA pill prevents conception from ever happening. There's no abortion involved with it.
She should know this by now. It must be pretty hard to find these things out without reading any magazines or newspapers. Then again, we all know the real answer is: she doesn't care about your welfare.
Dependence is NOT hope but servitude and despair. Not wanting what's yours stolen is not selfish but righteous. Obama? No thanks, keep that nasty change.

We don't need government being involved in women's personal lives. It is a fact that Sarah Palin did charge rape victims for the emergency exams. Sarah Palin is a controlling religious creep.
Jacksonholenativ 3 years ago 2
listen, my facts are straight (and i mean on the exceptions that mccain holds for abortion, the rest is tecnically opinion) facing reality?

BeachSaint 3 years ago
I am a Roman Catholic who is ProLife ProObama. I am also a survivor of sexual assault. Public policy needs to include rational discussions about all options available to women who should be allowed to make decisions after consultation with their doctors and according to their individual belief system.
BeachSaint 3 years ago

"Elect McCain/Palin! Menstruation is murder!"

Rape victims are promised anonymity. Consequently, rape victims of Wasilla, AK or Phoenix, AZ cannot specifically be mentioned--- unless the victim chooses.
This video is not about identifying rape victims, it is about justice.

Funny, I went to Planned Parenthood today.
I saw a guy with a sign stating that "Abortion is the worst type of child abuse."
>_> Funny, I've been abused 7 years of my life, and molested. I definitely beg to differ.

all that being said, cynthia, pleasure discussing things with you, even on a youtube comment page. it's nice to see people can still disagree civilly while still being cognizant of the other person's point of view. seems to be a rarity nowadays. whoever the next president ends up being, here's hoping they can get things back on track. that's what i'm really rooting for.
jcharnick 3 years ago
can someone point me in the direction of a single rape victim in wasilla that actually paid for the kits out of their own pocket? they actually charged the insurance companies, and not a single victim has ever been found that paid for the kits themselves. listen to the voiceover in this ad people... "women LIKE gretchen..." she's not from wasilla, and probably isn't even from Alaska. she's there recounting her own horror for the sole purpose of flaming the emotions of the viewer.
jcharnick 3 years ago
What about victims of rape who didnt have insurance? If someone cannot afford health insurance they probably cant come up with hundreds of dollars to pay for the exams. And without the rape kit charges most likely wont be pressed, and even if they are they are much more likely to be acquited, and another rapist will remain free.
socalcind 3 years ago 2
you are ABSOLUTELY 100% correct. and i apologize to anyone who thinks i sounded boorish in my last comment. my only point was that none of the people you refer to came from wasilla under mayor palin's watch. if i'm wrong, point me to the info (specific please), and i'll gladly stand corrected.
jcharnick 3 years ago
You obviously are more educated regarding the statistics than I am. But Im a person who takes statements literally and there was nothing said to indicate she was from Alaska. They were careful to say women like Gretchen. The important thing is it gets the point across.
Respectfully, Cynthia

well that's my issue with the ad. the point it tries to make is that sarah palin is well, as the title of the clip (chosen by the uploader, i know) heartless toward rape survivors, when there's no real evidence to back up that claim. i really don't believe in my heart that palin is any more heartless toward a rape victim than obama is a supporter of ayers' bombings way back when. i guess what i'm saying is ALL these ads depend on tugging at the heart strings while being thin on the real facts.
jcharnick 3 years ago
I disagree. A key difference between Obama and Palin is what their alternatives were. Obama's alternative would be to stop supporting others via a charity just because it would mean working alongside someone who used to be a bad guy. Palin's alternative was to support rape victims. Obama acted for the greater good. Palin did not.

So.....Sarah Palin cut spending in Alaska by forcing RAPED women to pay for exams. Now that is Country first. This woman is voting for Obama/Biden.

this is no smear (sadly).

Smear? No, there are FACTS, which can't be disputed.
btw, Hillary would never in a million years support
Sara Palin. Hillary supports Obama, and she asked her supporters to do the same.
Something is very fishy and deceptive here.
I suspect Repub supporters for Palin!!

The only smears going on here are the ones Palin & McCain continue to use to sabotage the Obama campaign! Sarah Palin is a hypocrite. She condones sex between teens who aren't married, abuses her power as Governor of Alaska & she is a damn liar!

Uh, have you seen the pure lies in McPain ads?

A smear is a lie or an untruth. A smear is a statement taken out of context in order to change what was meant. This is not a smear. This is fact. It is well-documented, public knowledge that Palin created policies that forbid her government from paying for evidence kits for rape victims. She did so because the kits also include a morning-after pill, intended to prevent pregnancy as a result of the rape. This ad simply states the fact. It portrays one of the victims of rape and this Palin policy.

Palin / McCain = The gravest threat to America as Dictators.
Mccain recently stated he want to be a dictator on a evening interview.
Anyone have this clip and can post it please?

SARAH PALIN KILLS BAMBI FROM A PLANE!

She is a naive puppet being used by desperate republican party to pick up the dummy vote of American.
deldelgary 3 years ago 7
God doesn't need to forgive those making the ad; God needs to forgive Sarah Palin for subjecting women to paying for rape kits when she already expects women to bear the babies of their rapists. Your support of Sarah Palin is sick.

"She thinks the Morning After pill is an abortion pill, implying that life starts at conception. The fallacy here is that the MA pill prevents conception from ever happening. There's no abortion involved with it."
That's a very good point, Yawaya2. I'd like to see someone ask her point blank how the morning after pill works.
Just to see if she has any idea.

And that is the problem. Pro-life activists would just say you're preventing what "God had intended" for you to have.
xD Yeah. Riiiight.

Rape victims do not deserve what happened to them to start with and further victimizing them is just plain wrong.
vickileroy 3 years ago 22
It's true. It's all a matter of record. Research it. Rape victims were not a priority for either of them, unfortunately.
