The rule will be enforced exclusively in accordance with the on-ice judgment of the Referee(s), and not by means of video replay or review."
In the NHL rule book, Rule #69.1
If the ref says it's a goal, it's a goal. I hate judgement calls, but I agree with him
@DobeDobyDo r u kidding me??? Marty didn't even see him he was tracking the puck the whole time! It should have been a penalty and if you were Marty I bet u would be pissed too
Announcer is out of his mind. The way he is calling this is completely one-sided. If anything, Marty skated forward into Jokinen causing the interference. If there was an interference penalty called, it should've been on Brodeur! Add an unsportsmanlike penalty on Marty for throwing his stick. Those calls would've been the right calls to make.
As much as it is goaltender interference brodeur comes out of the crease into jokinen meaning that they both interfered with each other which should cancel it out.
Plus i play hockey and get hit all the time as a goalie and nothing ever gets called.
As a devil fan I have several observations. I was obviously pissed at the result but I'd be more mad if I was a canes fan and the goal was waved off. Close call but the refs got it right. As for the devils color commentator Chico resch i believe he is looking at it from more of a goalies perspective than that of a devils fan. Also the replay was merely to see if the puck was in the net before time expired. They can't review interference calls with the video replay.
Bullshit goal. the ref's missed that interference call. NHL official rule states "Goal is disallowed. The official in his judgment may call a Minor penalty on the attacking player. The announcement should be, “No goal due to interference with the goalkeeper.”"
this announcer is an idiot talking about how Marty is in the crease. The replay shows multiple times that Brodeur is more than a foot outside the crease when he is bumped. Goal stands woo!
out of any state of truth in this situation, how could the nhl's #1 elite goalie let in a simple rarely-off-the-ice slapshot, by a matter of inches off his pad, slip by him, and go in?
dont worry that guy has the rule wrong. if the contact is incidental and outside the crease the goal is allowed to stand. considereing marty was outside the crease and the plaer he made contact with was skating backwards and unable to even see brodeaur i would say his contact was incidental and therefor the goal should count.
@cursedlemon yea buddy those are the rules. according to nhl rules it does not matter whether the goalie is inside or outside the crease. you cannot bump into him and impair him from defending his goal. in this case he was like a foot out of the crease which even furthers my point because its not like he was at the blue line. if you look up the rules you will notice that by following nhl rules, the goal should have been waved off. i didnt ref hockey for 6 years without knowing some shit.
@kyoung0410 if you watch the video, you can clearly 1.) see that the canes player didnt even see brodeur there since he wasnt even looking in that direction a 2.) Brodeur had no reason to be out there. you can say he was followng the puck ut he clearly wasnt, his angles were way off. He came out of that net seeking a penalty, and cried like a pussy baby when he didnt get it... As usual. Id put brodeur in the same category as crosby
@TjeroS the goalie is allowed his ice, just like the player. The player doesnt expect the goalie to be there since there is no reason for him to be. You can clearly see that the player isnt 1. looking towards the goal or 2. attempting to interfere witht the goalie. Which is why its incidental contact, and not a penalty
@SatsunaTheAngel first of all I don't think that he was doing it on purpose, second of all the NHL even admitted they made a mistake. Another shitty claim with know proof
if im a canes fan which i am, why cant i say hes out of the crease??? hes a good 2 feet out of the crease and jokinen is even farther. he bumps him outside the crease. juicy had no intention of doing that. brodeur is getting old and needs to retire. i hope new jersey drafted a new goalie because theyre gonna need it.
Scrubasteve9133 You shouldn't be insulting M.B. because he was totally screened and was move out of position from the player bumping into him. Yes they can recall a goal if it is reviewed.
No... They can't. You can only overturn a goal if interference WITHIN the Goaltenders crease occurs. Broduer left the crease ad tried to draw a penalty and got caught out of place.
Turd... I can read and have read most of the comments...and I also know that your wrong...even marty knew it was a good goal...he wanted them to go upstairs about the time...and if you knew the rules you would know that they cant recall a goal because there should've been a penalty called...anyone with a left leg could've stopped that shot. He's an nhl veteran he should've made that save... so before you come on here and start throwing insults around why don't you figure out a good argument...
Don't comment if you don't understand the rules about interference. The only time anyone can make any incidental contact with the goalie outside the crease is when the player "has made a reasonable effort to avoid such unnecessary contact." Jokinen skates directly into Brodeur and initiates contact without making any effort at all to avoid it. That, by definition, is goaltender interference. Brodeur's positioning/skating/ability to cross the crease are all irrelevant. It was a blown call. Period
@ISteppedOnATurd marty was clearly outside the crease...jokinen is allowed to try to get in position... he didnt lower his shoulder into him or blatantly try to make contact... as a tender ik it sucks when shit like that happens but it was a fair call...both feet were out of the crease...good goal
@scubasteve9133 I'll repeat myself only one time since you apparently have trouble reading. It doesn't make any difference whether Brodeur was in the crease or outside the crease. It is the attacking player's responsibility to make a reasonable effort to avoid any unnecessary contact. Jokinen didn't. He is not allow to make contact there whether he "lowers his shoulder" or not. Read the rulebook before responding to me again. You don't know what you're talking about.
Alright I am a devils fan, but I am also a goalie so I know what the rules for goalies are. This was a good goal. First off Brodeur was out of the crease so he can get nudged. Brodeur also looked like when the shot was taken he was in position. The refs made the right call.
@goalieguy3011 You're obviously an asshole, because you can't have any contact with the goalie. Some goalie you are, hope you don't make it to the NHL or your team's going to have a lot of problems winning games.
@schoolprojectsforfun You don't have to go all crazy at me. So I got one rule wrong. When I play my games if I am outside the crease and I get bumped the ref still allows the goal. I am sorry that I screwed up one rule.
@packers256 I got news for you. Holmstrom deserves all the shit he gets. IMO he doesn't get enough. The only skill that jerk has is blocking the goalies eyesight. He is constantly bumping goalies and interfering, which we both know is a no-no. Maybe that prick should learn to skate and play the game instead of fucking with the goalies.
@BillSteer99 *facepalm* He's the best in the league at screening goalies, and he almost NEVER interferes with them. He has to have the most good goals taken away in the history of the NHL. He's a strong guy that bumps around the opposing players in front of the net, and if the goalie is out of the crease, they'll make contact too. It's a harder skill than it looks. He's definitely not a dirty player. He's always outside the crease and again, he's had about 10-15 good goals taken away...
@packers256 Man, I just can't see things your way. I've seen Holmstrom plenty. You cannot say he almost NEVER interferes with them. He's obviously made a name for himself and made himself a marked man. You know all those refs know about him and talk about his antics and see what he does. Those guys are on the ice, and are paid professionals. You're not. How can you call what he does a skill? What he does is cheat. If he can't skate and play the game like a normal player, he's dirty.
@TheRustedStar Do you even know the rules of hockey? Just cuz the goalie is out of their crease does NOT mean they are fair game... You hit the goalie while he's playing the puck, it's STILL goaltender interference. I have played hockey most of my life, and I'm a ref, so I know the rules. That is still goaltender interference, and I'd say that even if I weren't a Devils fan.
No goalie would run into the other player when he is focused on playing the puck. There is no way a great goalie like brodeur would do that because he knows its pointless he is 100% focused on the puck and Jokinen runs him. Interference. Those who say otherwise do not understand the mentality of a goalie
@PrEdAtOr2k Goaltender interference is defined as any contact that disrupts the goaltenders ability to play the puck. Look at that video, you can not honestly say that that contact did not disrupt his ability to play the puck. = Goaltender interference, I have had it call on guys making a pass at me when my heels are off the crease in High School hockey and that gets called.
@PrEdAtOr2k To be honest niether one of use will change our minds, this is just another Brett Hull event. I will forever say it was interference because it disrupted his play of the puck WHICH IT CLEARLY DID. and you will argue it only can be called when he is in the crease, i disagree with the rule when a goalie comes out to challenge that does not make it ok to make contact but the game happened and there is not changing it. I say bad no call
@tylerskier The rule book is as it is. Goals like these end up being counted just about every day. I'm not saying I agree with it, I'm saying it's what the rule is. Habs get goals removed for goaler interference when it's in the circle, and so does every other team. And goals where someone interfers with the goaler outside the crease don't get removed. Proof is the Miller Lucic event. Outside of creese, anything is possible
@PrEdAtOr2k Goaltender interference is defined as any contact that disrupts the goaltenders ability to play the puck. The crease is not the only place a goalie stays to play his position and if he goes out he is still not fair game,
@tylerskier And what Jokinen's not focused on the puck either? Brodeur knows where his boundaries are and he crosses it and Jokinen should be allowed that free ice in front of the net, and there is alot of space between Jokinen and the crease. If Jokinen was further out it would be difficult for him to either tip the puck in or screen Brodeur. If that's interference then goalie's might as well be allowed to come up to the blue line and draw interference penalties
@TrinidadRasta Yes Goaltender interference is defined as any contact that disrupts the goaltenders ability to play the puck. so yes but i am not 100% on how far from the crease he can be for that to be called, but there Brodeur should not be interfered with.
@monk5151 I say his eyes were on the puck and the forward was not looking at how as behind him, still interference though. Martin Brodeur, the best goaltender in the history of Hockey would not run into a player ESPECIALLY IN THE PLAYOFFS
Contact was initially made at 2.2 seconds.Brodeur is in position to make a save at 0.8-0.6 seconds, and the puck crossed the line at 0.2 seconds. 2.2 seconds is enough time for a goalie to shake off a bump and get back into position. When Brodeur gets upset and throws a tantrum, I'm not sure what he was expecting. They cant review for goalie interference because thats a penalty and is not allowed to be reviewed. The puck crossed the line, bottom line. I've seen worse calls than this!
@Breaking911Myths well Brodeur clearly came out of his crease looking at the player and then tried to sell the "interference". Don't get me wrong, it was the main reason he didn't stop the puck, but it was HIS fault.
he is mad over goalie interference. the goalies respected zone extends from the back boards to the two faceoff dots. goalie interference can be called from anywhere in that zone. learn the rules guys
@kyoung0410 Yeah, uh...first of all, that's not the rule. Second of all, there has to be actual interference for the penalty of "goalie interference" to be called. A goalie can't run himself into the back of a player outside the crease and beg for goalie interference.
the guy was backing up. no eyes in the back of this dudes head. marty was way out. danger zone for a tender. but it all is based on the refs. sooooooo FUCK YOU MARTY
@ncdefense06 marty was not way. Im a goaltender myself and thats not way out thats whats called challenging and cutting down the angle for a goalie, you fail sir.
@67KayJay -- i'm a Dman. with the puck in the zone like that, marty did come out pretty far. incidental tho. but again, it is all based on the ref and how he feels about it. theres hundreds of missed calls out there when it comes to goalie interference. hundreds of bullshit calls too. lol i just hate marty
@hockeyfan145 your a dumbass, don't dis the greatest goaltender of all time. Hes getting upset for right reason. Being able to recover time has nothing to do with this. It was interference. I rest my case. Don't be a dick..... Oh wait.... to late
horrible call from the refs, he IS removed from play there as he wasn't able to get back into position on time. i would've been just as pissed as marty.
2. He was able to get back into position to make the save so he is NOT being removed from the play, which is the big principle making it interference or not. It's like calling a boarding penalty on an open ice hit
@UnbiasedGiraffe well you can't hit them, but you can slightly bump them, and also you are less likely to be called for goaltender interference if the goalie is out of the crease
Brodeur is out of the crease when he is touched, oh well should be interference. The interference should render the goal no good, except the contact didn't hinder Brodeur's ability to play the puck. He also crosses the crease and is square to the puck and stops momentum, he just misplays the shot. You can argue that he didn't get over as far as he wanted because of the contact, but that's not how I feel the play progressed.
It appears that Marty saw this player wide open and wanted to hinder his movement infront of the net. Maybe even draw a penalty, if possible...
(Why do I think that? .... Marty knew the contact was coming, he easily shook it off because he not only planned on the contact coming. He left the crease to set the whole thing up. It just didn't work out in his favor.)
My 2 cents...
If he had just stayed in the crease and played the puck. He would have stopped the goal.
This sportscaster is trying sooo hard to explain himself when in the back of his mind he ust know its bullshit and that was a clean goal. Its hockey. People get "bumped"....
What the fuck is Jokinen supposed to do? Just because Brodeur's way out of his net doesn't mean players should always know where he is by default. Jokinen had no reason to suspect that he might run into the goalie there. Next thing you know, goalies are going to be out by the red line, getting in the way of players and claiming goalie interference. Brodeur's wrong on this, he needs to man the fuck up and take it. Fucking childish move, throwing the stick.
As a Devils fan I hate the Canes just as much as I hate the Rangers..something about that franchise always gets to me. Everytime the Devs play them I dont like watching.
Chico: "Oh, that's an interference!" At this point in Marty's career, Chico hadn't sucked all the taste out of Marty's dick. Shame on biased announcers.
Just read the rules guys: Rule 69.1 Interference on the goalie: Goals should be disallowed only if: (1) an attacking player, either by his positioning or by contact, impairs the goalkeeper’s ability to move freely within his crease or defend his goal; or (2) an attacking player initiates intentional or deliberate contact with a goalkeeper, inside or outside of his goal crease. Incidental contact with a goalkeeper will be permitted, and resulting goals allowed...
This SHOULD NOT COUNT!!! It doesn't matter if he was in the blue or not on this play, you're not aloud to hit a goalie if he doesn't have the puck! (come to think of it, you shouldn't touch the goalie anyway!!) Stupid Refs.
total bullshit call, the crease is irrelavent, if you bump the goalie like that its goalie interference, the crease is totally irrelevant, learn the rules people, the crease has nothing to do with the goalie anymore as it shouldn't unless they largen the crease, every goalie beside lundqvist pretty much play outside the crease ty gain depth, you can't bump the goalie like that regardless of crease, absolute shit call
"Incidental contact with a goalkeeper will be permitted, and resulting goals allowed, when such contact is initiated outside of the goal crease, provided the attacking player has made a reasonable effort to avoid such contact. The rule will be enforced exclusively in accordance with the on-ice judgment of the Referee(s), and not by means of video replay or review."

I will forever say it was interference because it disrupted his play of the puck WHICH IT CLEARLY DID. and you will argue it only can be called when he is in the crease, i disagree with the rule when a goalie comes out to challenge that does not make it ok to make contact but the game happened and there is not changing it. I say bad no call
tylerskier 3 weeks ago
@tylerskier The rule book is as it is. Goals like these end up being counted just about every day. I'm not saying I agree with it, I'm saying it's what the rule is. Habs get goals removed for goaler interference when it's in the circle, and so does every other team. And goals where someone interfers with the goaler outside the crease don't get removed. Proof is the Miller Lucic event. Outside of creese, anything is possible
PrEdAtOr2k 3 weeks ago
@PrEdAtOr2k The play was blow dead on the Miller Lucic Hit
tylerskier 3 weeks ago
@PrEdAtOr2k Goaltender interference is defined as any contact that disrupts the goaltenders ability to play the puck. The crease is not the only place a goalie stays to play his position and if he goes out he is still not fair game,
tylerskier 3 weeks ago
@tylerskier And what Jokinen's not focused on the puck either? Brodeur knows where his boundaries are and he crosses it and Jokinen should be allowed that free ice in front of the net, and there is alot of space between Jokinen and the crease. If Jokinen was further out it would be difficult for him to either tip the puck in or screen Brodeur. If that's interference then goalie's might as well be allowed to come up to the blue line and draw interference penalties
AcIbra4 6 days ago
If he is outside the crease is it still interference?

@TrinidadRasta Yes Goaltender interference is defined as any contact that disrupts the goaltenders ability to play the puck. so yes but i am not 100% on how far from the crease he can be for that to be called, but there Brodeur should not be interfered with.
tylerskier 3 weeks ago
@TrinidadRasta Yes.

Have to say Marty ran into him
monk5151 3 weeks ago

Breaking911Myths 4 weeks ago
@Breaking911Myths well Brodeur clearly came out of his crease looking at the player and then tried to sell the "interference". Don't get me wrong, it was the main reason he didn't stop the puck, but it was HIS fault.

he is mad over goalie interference. the goalies respected zone extends from the back boards to the two faceoff dots. goalie interference can be called from anywhere in that zone. learn the rules guys
kyoung0410 1 month ago
@kyoung0410 Yeah, uh...first of all, that's not the rule. Second of all, there has to be actual interference for the penalty of "goalie interference" to be called. A goalie can't run himself into the back of a player outside the crease and beg for goalie interference.

horrible call from the refs, he IS removed from play there as he wasn't able to get back into position on time. i would've been just as pissed as marty.
xAfterDawnx 1 month ago
Doc your fucking retarded
1. You can bump a goalie out of the crease
2. He was able to get back into position to make the save so he is NOT being removed from the play, which is the big principle making it interference or not. It's like calling a boarding penalty on an open ice hit
Ironknite9 1 month ago
@Ironknite9
#1 is wrong. You can't hit the goalie when they are out of the crease. But you are right he was able to get back into play. That was a right call.
UnbiasedGiraffe 4 weeks ago
@UnbiasedGiraffe well you can't hit them, but you can slightly bump them, and also you are less likely to be called for goaltender interference if the goalie is out of the crease
Ironknite9 4 weeks ago
@Ironknite9
well, the rules say contact and in or out the crease. A bump is contact. But since he was able to preposition, I still agree with the no call.
UnbiasedGiraffe 4 weeks ago
Wow. Bad no call.
AnimalHouseMG 1 month ago
Brodeur is a big whining complainer..But he still WAS a good goalie
snut1298 1 month ago
Brodeur is out of the crease when he is touched, oh well should be interference. The interference should render the goal no good, except the contact didn't hinder Brodeur's ability to play the puck. He also crosses the crease and is square to the puck and stops momentum, he just misplays the shot. You can argue that he didn't get over as far as he wanted because of the contact, but that's not how I feel the play progressed.

To me:
It appears that Marty saw this player wide open and wanted to hinder his movement infront of the net. Maybe even draw a penalty, if possible...
(Why do I think that? .... Marty knew the contact was coming, he easily shook it off because he not only planned on the contact coming. He left the crease to set the whole thing up. It just didn't work out in his favor.)
My 2 cents...
If he had just stayed in the crease and played the puck. He would have stopped the goal.

NHLfreak87 1 month ago
Brodeur set himself to make contact outside of the crease with the player moving east-west. That's a good goal.

So its a goal , Period.
