  • Just think... If it was your house burning down you would want them to get there as fast as they can.... So just pullover for bluelighters its just that simple

  • Be nice and smart.... pull over....it could be your house thas on fire and you dont even know it...

  • Pull over?? Hell They pass me or cut me off every chance they get that's in a fire truck. POV might as well forget it.

  • I found that a foghorn does wonders to jerk wads.

  • as a volunteer firefighter who uses blue lights one thing i don't understand since they are curtsey lights y does it matter if people pull over we technically cant go over the speed limit anyway. i think what NY should do is make all volunteer ff cars emergency vehicles when responding to the fire house for a call

  • The laws do change from state to state reguarding the use and color of lights on a POV. In KY, red is reserved for vol. fire fighters and EMTs, reguardless of rank. Blue is only for law enforcement, period. Amber is for utility vehicles like mail truck, tow trucks, flag trucks, etc. Green is used to designate a command vehicle at an emergency scene even if that vehicle already has red and/or blue lights. Red and blue lights always have the right of way and you must pull over for them.

  • there now law well there should be

  • there are laws you have to move the fuck over for blue lights. Maybe just not in your state.

  • ANY THAT DOESNT POLL OVER NXT TIME THINK 1. IT COULD BE ONE OF YUR OWN FAMILY MEMBERS. 2 NEXT TIME IT COULD BE YOU THAT THE FIRE DEPT. COULD BE TRYING TO GET BUT THEY CANT CAUSE FAGS LIKE U CANT TAKE A FEW 2SECS TO POLL THE HELL OVER!!!!!! just keep in mind it could b u next time.

  • Get brighter lights!

Look at those lights, are we in 1990?

  • @kenny1309 you get what you can afford dude. not everyone can afford LED lights. and im speaking from experience.

  • @kenny1309 not everybody has the money for that my brother is a volunteer in my home town and my mom buys his lights for him and all he has is is 2 little red lights in the windshield maybe u should donate a bunch of lights to all the volunteers

  • @frodo70444

Why should I? You took that position.

If I was a volunteer, I'd make sure I was ready to go!

It's like a cop that couldn't afford bullets.

  • @kenny1309 sometimes Volunteer firefighters are up all night responding to calls and when it gets slow, we go back home a get some rest. IF there is another call and we live in a large town, you want to get to the firehouse as soon as possible so you can get your gear and get on the rig and respond. The Fact that you are saying that you would be ready 24/7 is clearly stating you have no idea. Oh and by the way, police officers do not have to buy their own ammo.

  • @0DeathO

My comment was about getting brighter lights, I didn't ask for an autobiography.

Those lights need to be changed ASAP, it's 2011, most department's here have converted to LED's.

and of course police officers don't pay for ammo, I was hypothetically speaking.

  • People don't pull over because they are either lazy, don't know the laws, don't care about other people in their community, or are mentally retarded. The latter is the case most of the time. Yes, the blue light is a courtesy light, it simply requests the right of way, nevertheless, if it safe for you to pull over, why not pull over? I fail to understand why that is such a difficult action to carry out.

  • Check out my video this is when people pull over when you have LED not strobes you cant even see

  • here in the philippines. the newly elected president put an end on our volunteer fire fighter and ems response time. he included all POV not to use sirens and lights. no excuses. only fire trucks and ambulances are allowed to use it, you want to go the scene you have to follow the traffic, like he does, always late for the appointments. some kinda president.

  • @ronepo here in germany volunteers aren´t allowed to use sirens and lights on their own cars. you are only allowed to use a sign that says firefighter on duty or something like that i don´t know how to translate it. and still people do pull over sometimes. so i think its more like the attitude of the people driving in front of you

  • yes there is a law. Blue and Red lights are emergency lights.

BTW blue is a way better visual color than red

  • @Angerfist2 New York recently changed the law now State Certified Ambulances, and Fire Trucks can also install the Blue Lights for increased visibility.

  • as soon a i got my blue lights from speed tech lights everybody pulls over there so big and bright.......that and the fact i put a train horn in my truck

  • ITS SIMPLE....SEE BLUE LIGHT OR RED LIGHT OR BLUE/RED LIGHT...PULL OVER. IT COULD BE YOUR LOVE ONE WE ARE TRYING TO SAVE OR YOUR HOUSE WE ARE TRYING TO SAVE. REMEMBER YOU ARE NOT HOME SO YOU NEVER KNOW IF YOUR HOUSE IS ON FIRE. PLEASE PULL OVER FOR US.

  • @1decesaro AGREED 100%

  • shoot your shotgun haha they will move

  • In Germany the volunteers have to drive to the station without any light on the car. We can use a shield which you can set on the roof that says "Emergency blabla" but that is also not the best solution.

  • the is one cool thing that is new you can beep you horn

  • fucking a

  • One thing you can do is use green. Especially if your an EMT. You have to yield to green lights just as lights and sirens. You dont for blue

  • just shove them aside with the trucks

  • As a career Firefighter/Paramedic and a volunteer Deputy Chief I look at it like this: from 22 years on the job everywhere from rural to urban settings, I can tell you that seconds absolutely do count, whether a fire, rescue, or medical emergency. The privilege of emergency lights & sirens in personal vehicles is a great responsibility. Proper use should be honored by the public. Inappropriate use should be dealt with severely. Both uses should be backed up with enforceable laws.

  • @vocetv im a volly seconds no but minutes yes

  • What the public does not understand is that there is a vehicle behind them and it looks like an ordinary car / truck with a blue light flashing. In a rual setting where traffic is usualy at a minimum why do you even need POV lighting? We do just fine without the blue/red lights in our POV's. We get an engine and rescue out in under 5 minutes...

  • you would be that ass hole to make our lives hell. so what your saying is people wont move for us but then thay critizize us because were not there fast enough you sir are an ignorant fuck.

  • Im a volunteer fire fighter in spain and when we get called we have to go to the station as fast as possible, HOWEVER we are not allowed lights on our vheicals because they arent classed as emergency vheicals and if we exceed the speed limit police can stop and fine us if they see us.

    How stupid is that?

We have to obey the law 100% on the way to an emergency until in the fire truck.

  • this is for every one that doesn't move when you see a vehicle with blu lights running, MOVE OUT OF THE DAMN WAY PLEASE, thank you to those nice people who do, by the way i'm not putting ANYONE down in any way

  • Nov2529 I agree with u 200%. How I like 2 say it, "Move for the lights cuz next time they may be 4 u!". Its gettin real bad now of days. Here in Indiana Ive been fliped the bird, tail grated, brake checked, and yelled at by heartless people out on the road just 4 tryin 2 save someones life. Deep down I hope 2 see thoses people again but this time their the ones Im runnin 2 save cuz then ill be able 2 say "hey bitch remember me?, u kno the guy just tryin 2 do his job and help innocent"

  • PA should make a driving safety course for volunteers and if they pass, they should be allowed to have red lights and sirens.

  • I totally agree. Blues if you are a junior or haven't taken EVOC but reds and siren after passing EVOC.

  • Here in Kentucky we don't have that problem, all volunteer firefighters are allowed to run red/white emergency lights. And we do get the right-of-way.

  • Here in NY it's illegal to have Red lights on your Dash. we only allow to have blue and no sirens. It all depends on the State.

  • and we can run sirens to

  • I love going to a call on a 30mph road and the guy in front of me is going 25mph and won't pull over. It's amazing the way people think.

  • @AKidFromNY So what, you may only loose a few second's. You still have to obey traffic law's...

  • I always obey the traffic laws, I never said I was breaking them...

  • If it's flashing, there's an emergency and so yielding should be LAW not just a "courtesy". You can bet that lawyers and insurance companies are behind this.

  • Comment removed

  • yeah. I upgraded to LED dash light a few years ago, there was a huge improvement in how many vehicles noticed me and pulled over in day and night. Nobody can see a teardrop light in the day time.

  • I have Wheelen Super LED on my dash and strobes i could be seen from a good distance and people still won't get out of the way. we should be allowed to se sirens.

  • ff621, I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you on that. Just because you have the privilege to use a courtesy light, it doesn't automatically make your car an emergency vehicle. I don't think a siren is necessary.

  • In my town we border the city and the amount of traffic we get between 7-9 am and 4-6pm it's insane sometimes, while we are trying to get to the firehouse we get toned 2-3 times and there is nothing we can do because we are stuck in traffic.

  • @ageil123 At least he's not one of those whackers that have a dozen light's on his vehicle...

  • @ageil123 You get what you can afford.

  • I am a volunteer firefighter also and find the pressure of getting to the firehouse very stressful. If everyone would move it would make life a lot easier, safer and save time.

We had a call a couple years back where an old guy didn't want to move for us. There was 5 or 6 of us with blue lights behind him loosing valuable time. When we finally rolled up on the scene guess whos cars was in the driveway. Yep!

He shows up at all our functions now. It's too bad it had to cost him his house.

  • This is exactly why ALL states need to MANDATE the right-of-way for volunteer firefighters. In Indiana, where this video is from, volunteers use blue lights as "courtesy" lights requesting the right-of-way. However if you are an EMT in Indiana you can display a flashing GREEN light on your personal vehicle and drivers MUST yield the right-of-way. Why is this not true for blue lights???

    .

  • o and where i live everyone pulls over for anything with lights and siren and also funareals (not sure i spelled that right lol)

  • I have a question..

For go to the firedepartment in America, you need to be an American?, or can be from Europe? ´´

  • Have to be an American Citizen

  • No, it depends on individual fire department requirements to be a firefighter. If you're in the country legally and willing to work to be a firefighter.. Good Luck :)

  • Are you allowed blue lights in NJ if you are 16 and can ride?

  • have to be 18 to ride with someone thats running lights and siren and 21 to run lights and siren in your own vehicle

  • really? I'm 16 and can ride on the truck and with anybody who has lights...

I was told it was 18 to have lights. Sirens are not allowed in NJ i believe.

  • never hered of that im a jouner volinter firemen and im 16 i cant have light til 18 but i can ride in my friends car with light running or siren to a call and i can ride in an engine

  • well different state wide but mostly you have to be a firefighter emt or cop to have one but you can buy em on ebay to but you cant use em in the car unless your an emergency worker

  • people are pretty good out here. mostly everyone pulls over even for the blue lights

  • @RW2FAN And how many accidents has there been or misuse of POV lighting issues has there been?

  • @coolsax64 none around here... there has been but not any recent.

  • Ohio allows real lightbars and sirens for volunteers and it works very well.

  • im a fire fighter and i would love it if people would pull over.

  • i would pull over for u i understand that u need to get to the fire hall quickly

  • thank you because if youe houce was on fie you would want me to get there veay fast

  • Here in Delaware volunteer fire fighters are not allowed nothing but what your vehicle came with,Highbeams and four-ways.And it sucks balls! Fire Police, and Chiefs are allowed blue lights that's it.

  • The vast majority of folks are good people, but 20% of the MORONS out there are the ones who always end up in front of you when you're running on a call. They're rude, ignorant, and self-centered and don't give a damn about emergency vehicles.

In the south (VA, NJ, SC) they are still "courtesy" lights, but volunteers use red lights. Blue is law enforcement only.

  • Very very fustrating as everyone is saying on here when you get behind someone and they wont let you pass. Remember it is a courtesy light only, they dont have to let us pass, no matter how pissed we get, and we all know those will be the ones to complain when we dont get to a scene fast enough for them. In my town, 99.9% of the people do allow us to pass cause were all so close to each other, but you always have that one asshole that stays in our way......regardless stay safe brothers

  • The same people that dont yield to emergency vehicles are the same ones that say it took you forever to get here when they call 911

  • Yes and I've had ppl tell me that and they were the ones not pulling over for me while I was enroute

  • people need 2 git the fuck out of the wayy

  • why don't all the people in the u.s get together and have 1 set of lights then that way there will not be any confused drivers everone would no its an emergency vehicle trying to get past. in the u.k. we just have bluelights on emergency vehicles.. :-)) p.s have alook at my emergency vehicle

  • people are DICK HEADS these days... no one can just get out of the way and let us by. Come on people, we arent back there doing it for our health!!

  • no usually were running calls for someone elses health... and yeah they really are fucking dickheads... usually theyer talking on their phones and being neglagent twards other veichles, espically volunteers

  • Not for our own health but more times others own health. atleast were im from any how.

  • When i was on vacation in south carolina i had seen a couple of vollunteers running with red lights...

  • I wonder why people arnt pulling over. If i saw an unusual vehicle behind me with a blue light, im dam sure not going to pull over unless i know its a police vehicle. Volunteers should have red or red and white response lights to respond with so people will not be confused and think that someone is trying to falsely pull them over. I have a lot of family in PA where a lot of responders still use blue lights. It seems to confuse most a lot of people.

  • Why the hell wouldent you pull over for a bluelight? The volunteer dept. that i run with makes alot of medical calls, car accidents and of course fires... how do you know that we as volunteers are not responding to one of your friends in need or for that fact even a family member... People here in Pa wehre i live get that point... why cant you?

  • thats rediculous. its common sence that any flashing warning light excluding amber for road departments is an emergency light. i am a volunteer firefighter in pa and we all run blue lights and the officers run red and sirens. our community understands what those lights are for. i strongly do not believe that people are confused by blue lights, they just dont want to be inconvenienced with having to pull over. what a world we live in.

  • i couldnt agree more with you sir.... im sick of these people thinking were back there having fun flashing at them. no one will get the point until their house catches fire and we can get to them

  • thats right bro... if these people dont wanna move over for me, or any of my other brothers in the dept, then dont call us to come save your house or your ass when you get into an accident... yesterday my dept. was on our way to the scene of an accident, and people wouldent even det out of the way for a dam fir truck... and then theres those idiots who are talking on their cell phones and driving, they dont pay any attention to any thing around them... it pisses me off

  • I am on a volunteer dept. in a little town in Ohio, and we are allowed to use red/white with siren. they say you have to have at least one amber light facing the rear as a caution light but they are not that strict. and we are allowed 10 mph over the speed limit and can pretty much put as many lights on your car you ever wanted to. we have a bunch of back roads and "S" turns so the lights do help and people respect them where i am from.

  • its not that hard ,,, out of human respect just pull over.

  • were you home schooled???

  • Well dipshit how do u know that it is that what if it is a kid that is inside a house that is hot as hell and nobody can get there on time to save them because dumbasses like you wont pull over i hope u get fried one day and nobody can get to you in time and who says u pull into a ditch just pull the fuck over and have some respect!

  • Ictm3 - wow, if you are on a department, quit. You are going to kill somebody with that attitude. It takes a certain type. Sounds like you aren't it.

  • i bet you wonldn't be saying this if it was you we was trying to get too. i hate people like this they bicth about us running light to try and help someone else but when its them they bitch becouse we could not get there faster. you people need to understand that one day it might be you so show some respect we are not asking you to drive in a ditch but try to move out of the way.

  • @tbakner agreed!!!!

  • find a driveway into a house business or field if you pull into a ditch thanks for that but that is your own stupidity

  • A burning building doesn't mean "some crack head" caught his couch on fire. Even if that WAS the case, their lives are just as important as anyone else's.

There are children, families, innocent people that die by fires. A lot are because Firefighters couldn't get there in time. People like you are the reason why. Just don't sue the Fire Station when YOU'RE the "crack head" who caught his couch on fire. After all, according to you, people would lose money because they went into a ditch!

  • anyone know the laws on using lights in your car in arkansas?

  • in my dept we cant even run red. all we can run is clear lights and no siren. its pretty stupid. and god forbid if we were to ever run blue lights, that would start some shit. all of our police and sherriff run blue and thats it.

  • Here in montana you can go all out (except for blue lights) and nobody really gives us static about our personal lights and such. In my town, everyone has a feel for our volunteer work and how important it is for us to get to the station as quick and as safe as possible. especially at late night or early morning when not alot of fighters are responding. The personal lights are very handy are a good tool for fire fighting purposes. Thank you very much for posting this news cast.

  • Im in NY. The most dangerous part of our lights is some yield., some don't and when you have one of each your asking for trouble.

I would like to see a system as such. Blue for probies etc. Once an EVOC course is taken a permit for red is issued with full right of way....strictly regulated. I believe vermont has something like that.

I personally display a light in my rear (illegally) because I find the most dangerous part is changing lanes. I use rear more often then forward. Stay Safe.

  • I completely agree. I'm tired of people having to deal with jacked up laws while they could be saving a life. After all, you can't drive a firetruck without EVOC but once you pass it then I don't see why you can't go code in your POV's.

  • yea if your in maryland where i am... you can get arrested for using your 4 ways (recklass endangerment) so try living here.

  • I am in Osceola Indiana and we live in a busy area and we can only run blue lights. darn Indiana. but yet again its only a courtesy light and it sucks but we deal.

  • On my Volly FD, we run red lights and siren on our POVs. Believe it or not, our department operates in a very urban area, not rural like most Volly departments.

  • up in canada we have green lights just courtesy lights but they do the job not to often do u come up behind someone and they wont pull over for u, the valley people r great...WWR Station #2 Cob

  • Emergency 4 ways?? those ain't emergency lights, no way no how..here in WY, most everyone is good about gettin out of the way of an emergency vehicle, as well as POV's with lights and sirens..hell even just flashing lights (mostly reds). but here in my town, our chief does not allow us to put reds on our POV's, as he thinks that 4 ways are enough...there's a bunch of us tryin to get that changed, but until he ain't chief, i doubt it'll happen

  • and the young guy couldn't say it any better, starting at :51 seconds

  • I have to agree wit u gfpd2722. In TX u just have to be able to prove that you were on a call if a cop ?s u. In my dept we've figured out that lights dont make that big of a difference. and weve gotten rid of all those guys who drive like a bat outta hell. dont waste ur money on POV lights u get the same response out of using ur 4ways.

  • well..in PA its aginst the law to run 4 ways for emergency lights..but yeah, i have a blue light in my car, and i don't get to the hall any faster then i do if i'm in another car with out it...but where i'm from there are a few stores and a bank. its nice to use so people don't pull out in front of u or take their time pulling in somewhere.

  • the difference between the speed limit and 10 to 15 over in a response that is only a few miles is not that much so idont really see the need for pov lights

  • and if the NFPA took away all lights and sirens from POVs and Emergency Vehicles for everyone, how about we just sit in the damn traffic, stop lights, etc ?

  • in illinois where i am from the lights are for courtesy only, you still have to stop at all the lights and go the speed limit

  • In Oregon, some vol depatrments can use red lights only if authorized by the fire chief and only under certain conditions. I do not like the use of blue lights in POV'S. There is always some questionable volunteer that will abuse it.

  • in nj you must pull over to a blue light.

  • not true. you are not an emergency vehicle until you have reds.

  • Funny how things differ in other countries, here in Ireland our emergency vehicles run blue lights, if someone used red lights here the would most likely be ignored!

  • i use red lights on my car when i'm going to a call! I'm with the retained brigade in ireland. They work!

  • You are wrong sir, quaditup is correct and you are wrong. In New Jersey the law is although blue is a courtesy light only the law was amended where it is now a traffic crime to not yield to a flashing blue light on a POV. I wish New York would do likewise for POV blue and green lights.

  • in new jersey that might be true but not in pa.therefore i am right for my state. your comment was well informed and i thank you for making that well known

  • Thanks old mate. I wish in Pennsylvania and here in New York that they would promote the same law that applies in New Jersey. I would love to see it made mandatory in all cases to have to pull over for a POV blue and/or green light. Hell, anyone responding POV with an amber light such a law should also apply to. That is, I think you should have to pull over/yield to flashing amber lights on a vehicle running them.

  • what about tow trucks and utility vehciles

  • why cant ct come up with a law like that??? for us blue for fd green for ems. soome towns let the responders respond to the scene and people not pulling over delays the response even more

  • i believe it should be this:

    blue for pd

    red for fire

green for ems (argue my points at will)

  • I agree 100 percent... when i visited south carolina thats the way it was( except for ems, they ran with red and blue) but a red light vs. a blue light makes so much more sence...

  • what are the emergency light laws in nj for lights on your pov

  • in NJ, im pretty sure that its blue (and some white) with the inability to break traffic laws, but since ppl must give way, they are allowed air horns. unfort., im in ny, so its just blue, no requirement to give way, and it takes me on avg. 10 min to get to the station to pick up a truck or respond to the scene since i miss the truck

  • in CT you can only run blue and white lights in the front of your vehicle and any color in the rear, and green if your an EMT, no siren, and we must obey all traffic laws

  • only white in the headlights

  • Great now somebody show this to maryland and tell them to let us run some sort of light or a siren and light. We are not even supposed to run our 4 ways going to a call. must obey all traffic signs and signals so you can only imagine if you don't live or work near the Fire Hall the structure has already burned down by the time we get there.West virginia is red and siren for vol.'s with a permit.

  • that is really wierd in Ohio where I live firefighters don't even have to have a permit to have lights on there personal vehicles even though half of them don't

  • yea maryland sucks can't run nothing west virginia lets you run red lights and siren with a permit sign by the chief or sheriff. i don't know why maryland has to be so strict, at least limit it to certain counties.

  • in pa not only do you have to get cleared by the chief if you have any light you have to register with the state cops

  • Yes, and in PA, where I am, the freakin news wouldn't take the side of 1st Responders.

  • in NM vol cannot have pov lights.

  • damn is that in the deep south?? lol

  • an update on the blue. in nj blue as of 3 years ago which no 1 knows has actually become a law stating that you must yelled to all blue lights nd emergency vehicles failure to do so will result in a hefty fine nd if an accident is cause due to failure to yelled to emergency vehicles you will be hit with a hefty fine nd a ticket for reckless endangerment

  • why cant every state do that

  • they need to let us have the right away like firetrucks, and to have sirens to people with a EMS/HATMAT/ or FF 1&2

  • NJ law you MUST pullover for blue lighters if not its a hefty ticket

  • its law to pull over in ohio. but vol. ff/emt can only run red/white. plue is reserved for police.

  • we can run red and white lights.. but you have be over 18 and have a fire card to use them

  • In Oklahoma its a sin to have a light on your POV, we can't even run our hazard flashers. I live less than a mile from the station and it's taken me 5 minutes to get there because I get stuck behind granny doing 2mph.

  • What about if you r a junior firefighter can u still run blue lights in pa

  • no, 18 and over for blue lights, and the vehicle has to be registered to you.

  • its ok to run blue/white/reds in oklahoma if you have a emergency light permit we can also run a siren and air horn with that permit but yes it is frustrating to have a guy not get out of my way the trick is get right on his bumper but dont hit him just get very close to scare him

  • Alright, you need to turn in your lights before you cause an accident or worse get someone injured. There is no reason to ride someone's bumper to "scare" them in to getting out of the way. Yes, they are inconsiderate in not getting out of the way, but you have to remember you are not demanding the right-of-way you are requesting it. First rule is not to add to an emergency, you should know that.

  • oh dear....i was hoping emergency driver training was as strict in the US as it is here in the UK. i had to complete a 3 week driving course before even attempting drive on "blues". bad attitude will only lead to an accident some day.

  • U r Allowed to have blue lights in pa right

  • yes you are allowed blue lights in PA

  • i live in southern indiana i would like to volunter with my local fire dept which is a vol fire department could anyone tell me how to go about thanks

  • over here in kentucky blue lights are law enforcements and red are fire and EMTs

  • i hate when ppl dont pull over, whether were responding to get our ambulance or our rescue (our rescue is run by our volli ambi service personal) or to a fire ppl dont pull over even when ur honking the horn and u c them look back @ u. it sux balls. in PA u hafta run blus no matter wat unless ur a high ranking officer (i.e. cheif , ac1, ac2, or fire police captain( thts just our comp idk bout many other depts.)) st police are r, b, w and so r the sherrifs but borogh police r just red and blu

  • In Ohio we can run Reds and Clears with a siren, people generally see us as an emergency vehicle and yield us the right away, but every once in a while there's some jerk that just doesn't give a shit.

  • Very informative I also wish everyone would yeild the right away. As im also a Vol. FF.

  • I share the pain.

I wish in NY thay made it a law to pull over and we could have sirens. Some people don't care and just don't pull over.

Plus, When you try to safly pass someone when they pull over not all the time does the on coming traffic pull over. So we have to wait and hope the guy stays pulled over.

  • amen to that...no here in NY respects the blue lights its scary using them most of the time

  • that's weird. do light regulations go by state or something, because here in San Diego blue lights are strictly restricted to law enforcement.

  • yup... In NY lawenforcement is allowed to have 2 small blue lights facing the rear and the rest is red. Red lights are strictly for emergency vehicles w/ blue lights for volunteer volunteer firefighters and green light for volunteer ems providers

  • Thanks, I was curious about that.

This is the deal around here:

    Red: Fire-Rescue, EMS, Police only

    Blue: Law enforcement only

Yellow, Amber, White: Unrestricted, but often used together with emergency colors on emergency vehicles.

Green: Strictly restricted--command vehicles only(green signals command post)

  • In Australia we used to have a weird system like that.. now we have red and blue lights.. and laws that civlians have to pull over to the side of the road.. I cant belieive that them American Govt, hasnt changed it... It does not take that much money to change over, plus when its lives at stake, a few dollars goes a long way!!!

  • I don't live in NY but some FDNY vids I've seen are really crazy, like you actually see cars PASSING responding apparatus. People should lose their licenses for that.

  • If all states would allow you to run reds/whites with a siren there would be no problems running code to the scene or the station. In Ohio we can run everything but Blues which is fine with me because mostly everybody yields to our POV's whether volunteer or professional.

  • NFPA needs to make it nationwide with POV's and responding with lights. cause some states have lights and some have none. standardize it, and make it easier for us. 360 degree, reds/whites/and ambers, and sirens.

  • That would only work if EVERY department adopted the NFPA standard. But not every department would.

  • yeah they deffinietly need to do that. have a standard list for all emergency responders ems pd fd pov or no

  • I agree 100% too many departments are too lax on lighting in POV's or just let the members wing it.
