  • A straight edger complaining about cigarette smoke! I like the old AFI albums, but they sound like such nancies when they whine about Nyquil, aspirin, and second hand smoke. Straight edge blows.

  • what i thought loads of people loved DU it's a great album so is "shut your mouth" and this is a really good one also crash love is good most of them are great albums

  • CU, I wasn't too crazy about, but I have to admit I gained a greater respect for AFI when I realized they were attempting to incorperate literary themes into the music itself--almost as an experiment to change it up or do something new with their music. Frankly, it's probably one of the reasons I've been listening to them for so long.

  • Frankly, I'm not a huge fan of cultural or marketing spin when it comes to any artist. And as for any artist, I don't believe their work should remain exclusive to one genre. It seems in almost any other craft, from literature, painting, sculture, acting, or film, an artist is praised for their ability to have greater range outside a singluar, narrow, genre. All except for music, where the artist is insulted for "selling out." It's babish, in my opinion.

  • This song is so sad..yet so beautiful..and so fucking true. God I love classic AFI.

  • DU isn't a bad album. All of the songs are good (except for Miss Murder, it just doesn't fit, and Affliction's outro, sounds like something from Grey's Anatomy), and the sounds are interesting enough. It just doesn't compare to Sing the Sorrows sincerity, that awesome earthy tone of the instruments, and just the mood and flow of the album's tracks. I honestly think because DU was so "poppy", it lost prestige just because of that. CL is a good album, better than DU in my opinion - It was sincere.

  • @FamiPunk I like DU better than CL but I give you a thumb up (I don't really mind when people talk about puns in parentheses). Sing the Sorrow is honest like you say.

  • yo if you like "AFI" and there older hardcore shit

    you"ll digg these dudes

    Kids Carry Germs

i found there shit on facebook, it reminds me of afi during this era

  • 'if only pure sweetness was offered, what's this bitter taste in my mouth?"

  • @sickmicbiscuit Why's this bitter taste left in my mouth*

  • @xXEnkilXx lol at this pwnage i still say then whys this bitter taste left in my mouth.

  • What an amazing song!

  • Everyone shut the fuck up. AFI is afi, and that is it.

  • i wish there were a video for this song

  • this is a great song to bounce my tits to

  • @impuri7y I really hope you're a chick so this comment isn't gay: I fucking love you.

  • Man, that last bit kinda makes me wish Dexter did backing vocals either for more of the song or on more songs than just the 2. Dexter and older AFI oddly enough seem to compliment each other. But...that could just be me being an Offspring fan for the past 13 years, lol.

  • Amazing song

  • i knew that the backing vocals sounded like dexter holland. it is him.

  • Dexter Holland from Offspring in backing vocals :D

  • ~Just going to join the debate~

I love Decemberunderground. It's a magical album, I really love it. But I also love ATASF, VPOY, SYMAOYE, BSITS, TAOD, STS and CL. I have to admit, CL is by far my least favorite, it's an amazing album, but I don't know. It's like I know you can't define AFI, but it seems a little out of place, like it's not the sort of music the band should be making. But that's just my opinion, and if the band's happy I'm happy.

  • @Norris3MCR Because they've gotten lazy, they didn't even write the songs together on CL they put together a bunch of pre-written shit, Having said that though, I enjoy the shit they out together, not as much as this though

  • @AtomicRichie right, Jade and Davey wrote the songs together like they always do, and what do you mean "pre-written shit" they never go into the studio before writing

  • @canesrule96 I don't know man I was drunk

  • @AtomicRichie No drinking and posting

  • @canesrule96 lol my bad

  • @AtomicRichie lol I was just being a smart ass

  • @Norris3MCR i think you should give crash love another shot i love all there albums since 92 as well but crash love and decemberunderground are really underated i love those albums so much all though sing the sorrow and black sails are my faves out of the older ones i think shut your mouth and open ur eyes is the worst to be honest besides a single second the rest of the album just doesnt do it for me but i love all there work including the rare demos and unreleased songs from both projects

  • @willbirkin666 Yeah, I really love Decemberunderground and agree that it's underrated, I think people looked at how Davey's appearance had changed and made a snap judgement about the album, which is unfortunate because that album is an amazing piece of work, and I love it to bits. I do love Crash Love, it's just not something I would have seen AFI making, other than songs from it's B-Sides. I do love the songs from the record, they just seem like they aren't as AFI ey as the B-Sides :}

  • @willbirkin666 I agree...it's not recorded as well as "Answer That..." Neither is "Very Proud..!"

  • @Norris3MCr Well davey said in the crash love interview before the album came out that the album is gonna be way different sounding then any album theve done but they think its one of the best works theyve done and I agree the album is beautiful.

  • afi didnt mature they went and got gay.

  • @APlike2skate lmao, no

  • what´s the meaning of this song?

  • I still have a shirt i bought at a party where AFI was playing. Its was a Friday night so they didnt have school the next day.

  • Do your research guys. Davey had nothing to do with the fact that AFI isn't a great band anymore. And by "had nothing to do with" I mean it wasn't his fault. He either had to give up the screaming and wailing that we all know and love.. Or lose his voice, permanently. So, yeah. They do suck now. But quit being 15 year old girls about it. Stick to The Art of Drowning and before and you'll be just fine.

  • Old AFI is better. Havoc is looking more and more queer with every new album...

  • @chris2004cdm he actually looks like a guy now though

  • Decemberunderground is their only decent album featuring their 'new' sound. I'd rather listen to everything from The Art of Drowning and before.

  • @Phoenixsinger93 Sing the Sorrow is 100x better then decemberunderground.

  • @squarepumplenumber2

I don't know about that...I think they're about the same as far as quality goes. I love StS because it's so atmospheric but DU is so crisp and has such an interesting soundscape. You can listen to DU and find new stuff in it each time. Now Crash love is pure shi**. JK, I was surprised to see how many people enjoy it. So I just gave up on ranking the albums as far as musicianship goes.

  • I appreciate how they change because it gives me more motivation to express myself as I evolve.

  • @squarepumplenumber2 Sing the Sorrow is probably the best album out there to date imo if you wanna even go that far :D

  • @wecosvinosec HOW can you ppl even say shit like Crash Love or Sing the Sorrow are their best albums?? Black Sails puts both of those to shame. But I guess you were still crawling around in your emo diapers when this album was out

  • Dexter Holland and Davey Havok make this song 10x more awesome.

  • this is music with heart

  • i saw afi at club 513 in atlanta on euclid ave. when this album first came out and it is one of my best memories any one who is also from atl and remembers this show i would love to hear about it

  • hahaha i love the way that despite the potentially deep lyrics the song is really about nothing more than smoking a clove cigarette

  • @blackbubblegum47 who the hell are you? sorry but these lyrics aren't potentially deep they are

  • @helloieatchicken i didnt mean that they aren't deep i just meant that they could be interpreted any number of different ways, some of which are "profound", i personally think they are and love all afi's lyrics(even the crash love ones :P)

  • @blackbubblegum47 i see know

  • i like afis old stuff alot better now they arent as hardcore

  • if only time and money never changed people or bands....we'd still have the badass version of AFI....not this 80's lookin J-pop style dudes that have kinda forgot what road they were supposed to be on....can only hope one day they go back to being badass(im a fan and all..but i honestly cant bring myself to listen to december underground...infront of people)

  • @BlakeTahoe If you'd stop watching and listening to gay porn you might enjoy everything AFI.

  • @haiguizeify great reply....must have taken a lot of brain power on that one....just next time...atleast TRY to be witty or hurt my feelings haha, have a great and glorious day my friend

  • ok for life of me i cant hear dexter holland's vocals on this. i think I can maybe hear him in prayer position, but i cant pick him out here. anybody knows what he sings?

  • @MBIIdollaBill end chorus they switch off. listen for it!

  • @michaelstraley thanks! davey did some backing vocals on a few offspring songs, i hear. you have any idea which ones?

  • @MBIIdollaBill offspring covered on of their songs its on me myself and irene. its pretty cool I played it twice while watching the credits

  • @outlaw45cal haha thats so sweet... i gotta check it out

  • @MBIIdollaBill no idea, sorry!

  • @MBIIdollaBill no idea, sorry!

  • @michaelstraley haha yup i finally found dexter in this song :P

  • 1) Listen to the song 2) Determine if you liked it 3) Tell yourself "i can go on without leaving a comment"

  • ahh, the pre-sellout days, how I miss thee

  • @jugwinedrunk AFI is one of the few bands that has changed their sound dramatically without selling out. I dont know about you but I dont see teenage girls walking around screaming "i love davey havok!" that dubious honor is usually reserved for the likes of justin bieber

  • @MBIIdollaBill wrong. new afi is bullshit

  • @bearblaster420 oh wow you have me convinced.

  • The progression in their sound is obvious when you listen to their albums in order. The changes just got a little bigger with each album. But the change in sound from whatever came before this, to this, to art of drowning, to sing the sorrow, is pretty logical. They slowly progressed away from punk and into rock.

  • LOL at the "horse semen" comment.

  • dexter!! offspring!

  • @bearblaster420 i for one have always loved afi, new and old. theyre new stuff id good. so dont knock it, a real fan of any band will accept the changes a band goes through, not just be a closed-minded jerk.

  • beautiful song....afi always.<3

  • goddammit ppl you guys keep on going on and on about new AFI! if you wanna bash them at least dont do it here. this video has nothing to do with the new AFI. Even then, you shouldnt, because that music is just as good as the old. All bands change, and remember, they made the same kinda stuff for 4 albums. If you count the total number of bsides, that equals to 1 album so how can you expect AFI NOT to change after 5 albums? AFI doesnt only do music for the fans, they do it more so for themselves.

  • @a7xfan208 fuck yeah man

  • this is when AFI started to get awesome musically and lyrically

  • One the best bands ever

  • i listened to this album nonstop for a goood portion of my life. nothing will have the emotional connection i have with this album

  • Best afi song actually. Never been better...

  • Fkn incredible voice this guy.

  • @RCondon828 and wot would u no a bot that there just as good now as they wre then

  • i hate when people say "AFI has matured because their lyrics are more meaningful now" yeah i can say they matured their lyrics from their first album till now but when people say that they mean that sts du and cl have the most meaningful lyrics. r u kidding me? These lyrics mean sooooooooooo much more then broken radios playing suicide (not bashing on end transmission, awesome song) but really? just cuz u cant understand this stuff until u look it up doesnt mean it doesnt hav a meaning

  • Thank you for saying this. That's the truth right there.

  • The lyrics on But home is nowhere... is awesome!!

  • @Louis390 to true

  • @GreyShadowUchiha: I agree with you, Art of Drowning, Black Sails, and Shut your Mouth and Open Your Eyes have awesome, awesome lyrics. Even some of Very Proud of Ya, too. There is def evidence of some intense concepts in VPoY.

"I'm detached from you completely." - He Who Laughs Last YEAH, totally amazing concepts.

I think when people say they've matured, they're talking more bout the music style. I mean, AFI didn't even KNOW how to play instruments when they started, ha.

    Love this song.

  • @GreyShadowUchiha nobody said their old shit doesnt havent meaning, at least not this album and art of drowning.

  • @MBIIdollaBill believe me many people i know do.

  • @GreyShadowUchiha well i meant ppl here who actually searched for a very specific song from black sails in the sunset. but yea im sure there are tons of ignorant ppl out there who dont understand the depth of AFI, be it their old stuff or their new stuff

  • @GreyShadowUchiha you could say the samething thing for broken radios playing suuicide, any idea what davey is reffering too?

  • @GreyShadowUchiha actually i can understand that stuff, i can relate to it, and i think its deep/meaningful. thats not to say that the older albums, like black sails and art of drowning, didn't have decent lyrics. you do know its entirely possible to appreciate AFI's newer work without taking anything away from the older stuff? i can honestly say the only AFI album I had really no interest in is the latest one, crash love

  • @GreyShadowUchiha i could say the same about you, personally i understand all the lyrics to most of their songs...you can't say any of their lyrics have less meaning and in the same sentence tell others they can't say the same about the old afi's lyrics without making yourself sound like a hypocrite

  • The backing vocals at 3:45 are done by dexter holland of the offspring

  • @schumisenna thank you i was wondering when he sings!

  • @schumisenna About the only good thing the Offspring did.....

  • @xXEnkilXx no way the offspring are a great band

  • @goneaway1989 I'm going to have to strongly disagree.

  • this is by far their most complete album top to bottom, but my fav songs our on open your eyes and shut ur mouth. That album has arguably their best songs.

  • ive finally decided this is my favorite album by afi, it was such a hard choice between this at of drowning and sing the sorrow

  • @GreyShadowUchiha yea those are my top 3 but i think i put sing the sorrow on top, and now i gotta decide between AoD and BSiS for 2nd place

  • this is my favorite album by these guys.

  • have you ever heard more emotion!? this is fantastic guys

  • true...

  • i miss cloves.

  • Listening to Decemberunderground is like having 40 gallons of horse semen being pumped into your asshole every 4 minutes.

Nah, i'm just fuckin' with you, it's great.

Oooooh, i'm gonna get a lot of hate mail for that one.

    :D

  • o i was about to say the stuff felt great then from they where puunk to wat they r now is alll good

  • @fudgemonkeyz79 decemberunderground was a terrible album. davey seemed to have lost his powerful singing ability and relies on screamo vocal tricks.

  • @fudgemonkeyz79 that's a rate of 10 gallos per minute

  • @fudgemonkeyz79 No you're right with your first statement. DU IS WANK, bring back the classic

  • @DaveyH123 idiot he was just kidding and AFI is still as awesome as before

  • @fudgemonkeyz79 you are correct that album sucked ass!

  • @fudgemonkeyz79 It did suck dude. Not even the same band

  • @fudgemonkeyz79 factual statement.

    A FIRE INSIDE is dead.

among faggots international is the new afi. and these pussy tween bitches think they're music is better than ours.

  • @fudgemonkeyz79 hahaha why the 49 thumbs up

  • @fudgemonkeyz79 i think the horse semen comment was right on...old school afi is untouchable tho

  • @fudgemonkeyz79 dude, i woild like to pump 40 gallons of horse semen into your ass. prick.

  • @fudgemonkeyz79 ohhh.... youre just kidding... sorry

  • @fudgemonkeyz79 Thats 10 gallons per minute!

  • @fudgemonkeyz79 your freaken duisgusting

  • @fudgemonkeyz79 dont kid, decemberunderground is that horrible

  • @fudgemonkeyz79 dont kid, decemberunderground is that horrible

  • @fudgemonkeyz79 you're so funny, everyone likes you now -__-

  • <3 <3

  • i miss his bsits scream :(

  • I like davey's new hair style. good look on him.

  • 1. Answer that and stay fashionable

2.Shut your mouth and open your eyes

    3.very proud of yah

    4.art of drowning

    5.black sails in the sunset

6.sing the sorrows (i love sing the sorrows but i love the other albums more there isn't an album i hate)

and it's kinda of a tie for crash love and DU i like them but they aren't that good and for all the ones i didn't put (dork, all hollows ep, A fire inside ep, and the others im not sure where to put them but i love them all)

  • Amazing song. I just ordered this album online. Hopefully I'll get it soon.

  • where'd you order it from?

  • Comment removed

  • daveys greatest piece of poetry right here, in my opinion

  • catharsis is relieving or expressing emotions through music...something like that.

  • It means to exorcise your dislikes/fears by confronting them.

  • actually it means to be clean.

    nothing to do with confrontation.

  • It means whatever it means to you :) Davey has said he intentionally writes in a way that isn't very specific, so you can interpret it the way you like. =]

This song is beautiful. One of my favourite albums.

  • what the fucks a catharsis anyway?

  • Look It up in the dictionary

  • i think its the thing jesus was killed on or sumthing. or some breed of cactus.

  • that's called a crucifix, haha

  • relieving emotions

  • i think its like the purging of emotions like canesrule96 said

  • I love the intro! I love all their music but i pefer music from this album and newer.

  • and newer? ugh.... OLDER the new shit is ass-rapingly-bad

  • hahah true

  • My favorite AFI song of all time.

  • lovecandi couldnt of said it better

  • one of the best songs ever from AFI,really really touching, thanks for posting this :-))

  • black sails is the best though

  • All of AFI's cds have been great. They are an amazing band and everyone who is hating on decemberunderground just needs to understand that they have changed their sound due to the music era we're in now and because of their own life situations. Still no matter what, AFI is uncomparable to any other band.

  • i was going to say that. lol :D

  • einfach nur geiles lied :)

  • I completely understand why AFI fans dont like their newer stuff, i.e; Decemberunderground But their newer music is in every aspect better structured, better composed music. Plus Davey has a terrific singing voice and a great scream This punk yelling or whatever it is doesn't sound good at all to me. Whatevs, im just bored atm. Please don't bitch at me. It's just an opinion, ok? Im not dissing old AFI Just saying I prefer their newer stuff And Blaqk Audio. Give it a chance, people! Thanks :)
  • We have. It sucks.

  • I can somewhat agree with you Admin.

But you must just like punk and im fine with that...

I liked STS, but DU was just not as good. Most of the songs were badly composed actually....

  • You basically gave us the definition of punk- simple, repeating guitar riffs with simple drum patterns. The vocals are often of not much skill. And that's why I like it. Punk bands make music for the love of it, like the way I do with my punk band. It also proves that you can be simple but still sound good. I wrote a really good song using total 5 chords, all E=A+2. It's a type of music that will never die. Don't offend it.

  • sts and du were ok i dont hate on them, but please dont try and tell me that its better composed than black sails

  • yeah dude this is their best composed album, maybe not the most versatile, that would be AOD, everything from smile to morningstar in AOD, they are very experimental in that album but this one is best, hence the name

  • 1. Answer That and Stay Fashionable

    2.A Fire Inside EP

    3. Black Sails In the Sunset

    4. All Hallows EP

    5 Very Proud of Ya

    6. Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes

    7. Art of Drowning

    8. Sing the Sorrow

I didn't put DecemberUnderground on there because I hate that CD so much.

    but thats just my opinion.

  • Dude, why is Art of Drowning so low? I personally think it's better than Shut your mouth...

  • i know. i love art of drowning

  • why'd you put the art of drowning so low, give it more credit than that

  • The only reason I looked up this video is because Dexter Holland from The Offspring sang background vocals. :)

Don't hate though I really liked Miss Murder.

  • and ur tellign us why...?

this was their 2nd best album

  • Miss Murder? Really? That's the only one people ever like. It pisses me off. They have so much better stuff.... Like this. I personally prefer Sing the Sorrow, but this one is closely following. All Hallow's or TAOD is next.

  • Hell man, this record kicks ass, but Answer was probably their best.

  • Answer was pretty good, that one has to be right after Shut Yo Mouth, which is after TAOD. Very Proud was alright...

  • nah. it goes answer. very proud of ya. shut your mouth. all hallows e.p. black sails. taod. and after that the whole band died in a horrible sex change operation.
