  • hey man nice vids!! may i ask how did you do it? the sustain thinggy? im planning to buy a microkey... and what vst did you use in this video? sounds very nice!

  • Is it possible to use the mod to control the master volume?

  • I just got this and I can't seem to get any sound unless I use the the Korg software M1Le... what exactly am I supposed to run this through?

  • @therichardchannel The keyboard does not make any sounds by itself. You need software like M1Le or any other VSTi software plugins using a VST host software. This is like all other controller keyboards, they don't make sound.

  • What would you suggest, the akai lpk or the korg microkey?

  • @ElectrikBear I recommend the Korg. The keys feel better.

  • You are running it through a Dell Studio ? Is there latency/lag ?

  • @Filthy04 Yup, it's a Dell Studio. I was getting about 6ms latency which is almost not noticable using the built-in sound card, but you MUST use ASIO4ALL sound card drivers as opposed to the Dell drivers to achieve this low latency. I am now using Behringer UCA202 usb sound card with Behringer ASIO drivers and I'm getting about 3ms latency. Most laptop sound cards are ok as long as you use some sort of ASIO driver.

  • I have a problem that I get some delay when playing in different programs including, FL Studio 10, Ableton Live 8.

  • @ParanoidSquirrelProd You must use ASIO4ALL drivers to lower you latency on your sound card to acceptable levels. Without ASIO drivers, the latency is too much for live playing.

  • beautiful playin my friend

  • The piano patch here is great! Are you using the software that comes with the nanokey or is it something else?

  • How does the sustain pedal work? Is it a midi pedal that you just set to the right CC?

  • @DavidLarsenM1 I use just a standard keyboard sustain pedal that acts like a simple switch (no internal MIDI in the pedal, just a switch) the pedal is wired into the modulation wheel to act like the wheel is being moved when you press the pedal. The modulation wheel is then reprogrammed to send out a sustain MIDI command instead of a modulation MIDI command and voila, a sustain pedal where there once was none.

  • Just had one delivered, and I'm having trouble getting it to work with Cubase 5, I can't figure out how to get cubase to recognise it. Any help?

    Thanks

  • @SugarsSickSweet Not sure. Make sure you have the latest drivers. You might have to enable the port in your midi preferences/options before it will show up in your available intruments list.

  • @SugarsSickSweet

After trying (winxp & win7) with the official drivers, I decided to remove drivers, and try without them. It worked!

Remove the Korg device in "My computer - Hardware devices; Sound/Midi/Korg" then also remove using "Add//Remove". Then do a restart and ... plug it in after system reboots.

You'll likely have a fully functional device which your music software will pick up.

  • Just curious, I use Ableton and am thinking of getting a mIcrokey with one of the korg nano series, do you or does anyone else know whether I would have trouble mapping any of the keys from the Nano piece? As it would be plugged into the MicroKeys usb hub rather than my PCs ( I have a lot of usb stuff plugged in ect, )

  • @NeverReality I have not had any problems with using other controllers through the MicroKey's usb ports. I am using two MicroKey keyboards without any issues.

  • Is there a way that the mod wheel can serve as a sustain feature by itself? without adding the pedal? I just bought this and seriously can't believe Korg didn't include a sustain input. It would have been perfect if they did. Nice job on yours...

  • @MrRockermocker Yes you can just reprogram your MicroKey so that the mod wheel is CC#64, then it acts like a sustain 'wheel'.

  • @384sumac Really? So is CC#64 a setting I can choose from a list within the program it comes with? I haven't opened it yet because I'm debating sending it back. How does the sustain sound with it like that, is it equivalent to using a "sustain button" that you find on a lot of other mini controllers? Thanks for your help.

  • @MrRockermocker Yes, when you start the Korg software, you can select the mod wheel to be any number of things. From there make it CC#64, then save the changes to the MicroKey by using the 'write scene data' option.

The sustain will sound like any other sustain button or pedal, but you will have to move the wheel back to the 'un-sustain' position or it will keep sustaining since the wheel doesn't have a spring like the buttons or pedals do.

  • how do you like this compared to your akai lpk25? I've been looking into both

  • @DiamondDudeFilm I prefer the Korg Microkey. The keys of the Korg feel better, while the akai feels cheap like a toy.

  • nice interpetration dude

  • That piano sounds great! What plugin did you use? Thanks!

  • @flotopo Thanks. I am using ArtVista Virtual Grand. By far the best for solo piano in my opinion.

  • Hello

How do you connect your sustain pedal ?

    Thanks

    Florent

  • @GUITARABANANA Hi, check out my other video that shows how I added the sustain pedal. Thanks for looking.

  • @384sumac Wow talk about good timing! I saw you hit the octave button as you did that run! very impressive! One question though. Is the mod wheel still functional after the mod or will it just make it sutain if you push it up?

  • @jonesboy35757 Thanks! The mod wheel will act like a sustain if you push it up.

  • Is this a cheap supermarket crap or is the touch sensitive realistic and can you play with it instead of just messing around? How do you feel about this?

  • @mrteemumilto I love these so much I have 2 of them on my 5 key show rig. They are touch sensitive and way more playable than other mini-keys. It feels more like full-size than other minis, but you have to get used to playing the smaller keys.

I don't think I could play on just that one keyboard (other than messing around), since it's hard to fit both hands on 37 keys, which is why I use multiple keys.

  • I came for the Korg Microkey & stayed for the music! Very nice

  • beautiful jazz, beautiful playing, bravo!

  • Can I use this with FL Studio? Anyone tried using it for FL Studio?

  • i find it funny that your 37 and you play a 37 key keyboard lol

  • @algebraparish , That's awesome. I guess I'll have to wait until I'm 49 for my next video lol.

  • @384sumac can this usb keyboard be played as a stand alone keyboard without being plugged into a DAW

  • @algebraparish no, that's only a control surface, not a synth.

  • A- friggin´-mazing!!! You are great!!! :)

  • its amazing you can play such good music with those tiny little keys :D

  • I'm going to just to play around. I know there's additional software to this, but is it possible to play with other programs, where just MIDI-in is needed? sorry for english

  • @kapikapikapi , Most software instruments can be used with the microkey. The MicroKey only has USB ports, no MIDI ports, so you will need hardware that can support USB-in.

  • How old are you? You are an EXCELLENT piano player ;) I could listen to you play all day.

  • @audiotrax2000

Thanks! I'm 37, but have been playing since I was 7. Took a bunch of classical, then I took some improvisation classes, but mostly playing my own stuff.

  • @audiotrax2000 Is Sustain Mod (sp) a specific piano software? If so, I would like to obtain it; I own a Korg MicroKey and would like to tether it to my computer(s). Thank you and God bless.

  • @Juliaflo , Sustain Mod is a modification I had to make to my MicroKey to allow me to use a sustain pedal. The software I used is called ArtVista Virtual Grand.

  • @384sumac Thank youi. I will look into the ArtVista Virtual Grand. I do have Pianissimo; I guess it will work with that.

  • You have to got a midi interface to use this controller withou delay? Thanks.

  • @drakonimetal

I don't use an interface and I have very little delay, but it has more to do with the audio interface than the midi interface. I use my standard laptop sound card, but I use a driver you can download called ASIO4ALL, then I set the 'Latency' as low as I can to get very little delay. You might notice some delay, but that's just in the youtube website.

  • @384sumac Okay, I'm gonna buy one! Thank you very much! =)

  • It doesn't have a sustain pedal input? Really disappointing. Was gonna buy this for sure, but now, not so much. I just assumed it would have a sustain jack :P

  • @anokah

Yeah, I was really surprised it didn't have a sustain too, but it plays nice though. Better feel than my Akai LPK25.

  • @384sumac Well that's good to hear. I have a roland fp-7, but i don't have room for it where i live now, and this seemed like a great compromise for a nice price. I do have an FCB1010 midi controller, so i can probably use that for sustain. Korg might get my money yet :)

  • Wow. the melody sounds like very swedish folksongish. :-)

  • what vst piano is that?

    sounds great

  • @anjoojt

    It's Art Vista Virtual Grand

    Thanks

  • what song r u playing??? very nice...

  • @domogato

Hi, I'm just noodling around on an original of mine. Thanks for the comments.

  • erm why dont any of you just buy a midi foot pedal and program it through your post production sotware ?

  • @spacemanjames

Hi, for me it was the cost savings. This mod only cost me a few dollars US, while a USB/MIDI foot pedal is pretty expensive. If I was using another keyboard that had a spare jack, I could have just plugged in a standard foot pedal into that keyboard and programmed it like you suggested.

  • @384sumac ahrite i get ya buddy, its a pretty nice mod, well done for it tbh man, i would never have thought to solder a pedal to the modulation wheel tbh, im currently trying to figure out how to use my korg nanopad as a controller in guitar rig, so i could tap one of the pads with my foot to activate effects pedals etc, dont seem to be getting very far with it htough

  • @spacemanjames

Well, you could probably do something similar to what I did to my Akai LPK25. It already had a button for sustain, so I just found the connection on the circuit board and soldered the pedal connectors to the two leads on the board to make it seem like the button was being pushed. The difficult part was how tiny everything was so I had to use a super tiny wire to solder to the board.

Good luck and hit me up with any questions if you need help.

  • I reviewed the Microkey on Amazon. I knocked off a star (down to 4) due to the lack of a sustain pedal jack. Add a sustain pedal and I'll be happy. Add aftertouch and I'll be REALLY happy.

BTW - what really makes the Microkey a great value is the fact that you can buy both the Legacy Collection Analog Edition and Legacy Collection Digital Edition for $99.00 total at the Korg website. Same deal for Nanokey buyers. It's officially an M1LE upgrade.

  • I just posted a tutorial on how to add a sustain pedal to your Korg Microkey.

    Korg Microkey Sustain Pedal Mod

  • very clever! thank you so much

  • hi! i just by one, and recently noticed that has'nt a sustain jack, i can't wait for your tutorial! thank you very much! you play very nice!!!

  • Adding a sustain pedal is not too hard, but you should know how to solder wires. First, you will need to reprogram the korg so that the mod wheel sends the sustain CC number. Drill a hole for the jack, then wire up a resistor to the jack and solder it to the green and yellow wires of the mod wheel. I'll post a step by step tutorial soon.

    Thanks for looking.

  • nice playing!

how hard is the sustain mod to do?

  • nice! just ordered one. cant wait!
