This is such a classic though. I just downloaded it on the PSN and I can't stop playing it and it keeps reminding me about the time when I was little and thought this game was the greatest game ever.

I think though the best game for me is Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake the original MSX game (not the NES game snakes revenge) I often think Solid is kinda overrated, cause almost no one's ever played Metal Gear MSX (not the NES game cause that ports almost unplayable) and metal gear 2 MSX. Which were also released on the MGS3 subsistance bonus disk. I perfer those cause they had big boss and how you killed grey fox. I just metal gear 2 more emersive then solid.

I hated how I couldn't walk. That pissed me off to no degree. MGS has a fantastic story, but the stealth itself is pretty bad. I will admit I like the gameplay in Twin Snakes better, but those cutscenes are WAY too over the top, compared toe the PS1's "Grounded to reality" feel. So I like both versions the same :P

@digimonFTW22456 Lol. Hey, how's it going? Yeah, I think I had the same problem. Simple fix. You need to buy a Playstation 1 memory card. I remember playing a good bit into the game and found out I couldn't save!!! The PS2 will recognize the PS1 card and you can save MGS on it, just as you would any other game. Today, PS1 memory cards should be relatively cheep. I saw one on the net for less than 2 dollars. Enjoy Metal Gear Solid!!

The NES games weren't even affiliated with Kojima, and Snakes Revenge isn't even an official game in the series. The original games are for the MSX-2.

The point of Metal Gear being a bi-pedal nuclear weapon is for full-terrain control across any battlefield, in addition to launching nukes at any place, anytime. Plus, there would be no awesome giant Metal Gear fight between Liquid-Ocelot and Snake in MGS4 if they weren't giant-ass mechs.

If you like rpg's id suggest any of the final fantasy games, legend of dragoon, and other good rpg gems. Aside from that... resident evil, syphon filter, silent hill, parappa the rappa, casltevania... theres lots and lots of awesome gems you can probably find for very cheap now.

I personally reccomend crash bandicoots series, gran turismo, syphon filter, twisted metal, tekken, resisdent evil, and well i dont want to list any more. I could sit all day and think of great games for it, it all depends on your interests.

actually the first metal gear game was for the custom computer msx, which was only released in japan. a sequel also followed it for the msx. after the success of these two games they released metal gear 1 and snake's revenge for the nes in the u.s., but they weren't good overall to the first two. kojima stated that metal gear for the nes wasn't faithful to his original intention.

I loved the orignal Metal Gear Solid for the PS1 (give or take the overlong dialogue).

But Metal Gear Solid 2- PS2 was shit.

I felt the PS1 original had "better graphics" with Dark, Detailed Textures,excellent level design, atmosphere, hardware, weapons and bosses.

The PS2 had better character animation detail only. The rest of it was bland had very little level detail, levels looked exactly the same and it the graphics were too colourful. (remember the Orange Reactors?- Urgh!)

MGS 2 tanker level was a masterpiece (11 out of 10). Everything after that point was pure shit (7 out of 10). Overall, I think the tanker episode makes it worth playing though. Obviously, they realized they wouldn't have enough time to put the same amount of detail into the rest of the game and totally screwed up the big shell.
