  • Nice Cover. My former bandmates loved to play this song, then when they found out I played mando it became a constant in our setlist. (I guess it also helped that my Grandfather was a shine runner up in these hills ;-) )

    Kudos!

  • Awesome cover! This is so much better than the original it's pretty crazy. This song was made for this kind of folk sound. Amazing job man.

  • @airborne1promodeler Its a song about the singer's grandpa makin moonshine and dyin on copperhead rd, then the singer going to vietnam and coming back with a grand plan to grow and sell pot to get outta the moonshine business

  • @FlirtinW1thDisaster Thanks bro!

  • @FlirtinW1thDisaster That is one way to look at it.. quite vanilla though.. but still you are right. Breaks down to that other than the getting out of the moonshine business.. that wasn't the goal, pot was just easier.

  • Popcorn sutton is the king !!! :)

  • .42 POPCORN SUTTON! Rip buddy!

  • Compelling version of a compelling tune. Well done.

  • country folks rock.....i,m home sick now....take me home country roads....

  • Freaking AWESOME job. This song is why I added a mando to my stable of guitars. Come to think of it Steve is why I am getting a banjo as well (Oxycontin Blues - even tuned to open Gm I can't get my guitar to drone like a banjo). Actually Steve, Guy Clark, and Townes are why I play guitar.

Hey you lay doen all the instruments or did you have other players? Are the pipes real or a VSTi sampler?

    Did I mention AMAZING rendition?

  • better than a nice cover......excellent

  • take a dash of Jim Morrison add it to a Steve Earle mandolin classic and let it brew with a little CCR tone - there you have an afternoon!

sensational stuff, so when do you feed our appetite with another contribution?

  • Wow, that was terriffic! I got chills listening man!

  • This is awesome no one talking shit.. everyone wants to be free...

  • This, sir , is one damn fine rendition. Love your voice, outstanding musicianship. Ol' Steve would be proud, if he ain't already.

  • wow this is a great version. You rock. Thank you.

  • wow this is a great version. You rock

  • Not too bad of a cover, nice work

  • well done! nice cover

  • To much echo. Not bad though.

  • Wow dude...This is one of my favorite songs..And your voice sounds kind of like Jim Morrison too...Awesome...

  • Other then a few minor foul ups in the wording, this is a very nice version of the ever popular original. And the misworded bits arent that terrible, because it just flows, and thats what music is really about. Good job on the song man.

  • this is fucking LSOER

  • great job..I love this song. Thanks for sharing.

  • Good job brother

  • Great job! Very much enjoyed it, but I didn't notice a bass line, was wondering if that was intentional to give it a more acoustic sound. Loved it either way!

  • Thanks so very much for writing this song!!

  • Praise The LORD & Pass The Ammunition!

    Sounds like Home to me!

  • ...Tastefully executed Sir ! Please excuse the nasty commentary from some; It takes far less effort to slander the fine work of others than prepare something of their own. Anyway, where does a fellow named 'Mr. Tinkles Poop' get off calling anything GAY !?

  • Brilliant version mate. Oh and thanks for putting the monshine recipe at the start of the video. I'm just about to head off to town to buy a hundred pound pound of yeast and some copper line.

  • @TheFleurieuLA you make it, i'll run in brother. long live moonshine whiskey and the south.

  • @varminthunter243 thumbs up!! and Im from Chicago -came down here on vacation since I was 2 - one month a year - moved here 8 years ago- 53 now- and love it - next stop is the Keys and then Cabo -

  • Excellent! Loved seeing ole Popcorn. I met him just a few short months before he died. What a legend! I'd love to hear your version of Copper Line Hills.

  • well done.....

  • I wake up screaming like I'm back over there...damn

  • Banjoman, wonderful interpretation of a righteous song. Your slant slows it down so the lyrics are perfectly discernable. Excellent go Sir! Keep the good music alive by sharing. Peace and Blessings~

  • Banjoman, Love your interpretation of this song. Nicely done Sir! Keep the music alive. Nice change up, lyrics are clearly understood. Keep the music alive~! Peace and Blessings~

  • Absolutely love this video you put together as well as your performance.. I like that idiot kid try to make a video like this one... Let everyone then tear it apart.. Hats off to you sir.. Dam good song.. Popcorn Sutton would be proud of you for paying a bit of respect to all these moonshiners. by the way were did you get all the great moonshine photos?

  • Excellent.

  • I love the song coperhead road does anyone know of any other songs like this

  • Very nice version of Earles song.

    I like it very much.

  • You not only gave it a go dude, you rocked it! Bravo!

  • great version of a great song, but a lot of people mix up line big block dodge with big black dodge .

  • God Bless Papa Popcorn!

  • great job! I read where somebody made a crack about he's learning it "All two chords" Well some people can say more with one or two chords than others can say with a million, just listen to John Lee Hooker. Art is a funny thing and maybe because of this it's what makes it beautiful, it doesn't always have to be sophisticated to be profound and touching. And by the way i believe there are more than 2 chords so vaffanculo pal.

  • @mojohand12, Thankyou..There are indeed more than two chords to the song (D, G and C using various hammer on and off notes), it took me a while to master the rhythm adding in the main melody..I assumed the two chord comment was an admission of the persons skill level !! ..Sometimes less is more. Good simple lyrics that everyone can sing along to, Clever but easy melody that even amature musicians can learn to play = Classic song that appeals to most (if not all) country fans...

  • hi man....great reallly.....i´m from germany ....doesn´t matter.....lovely regards.....

  • this is were NASCAR originated. im learning this song on the mandolin. all two chords.

(dont pay no attention to the haters. hope i can do it that good some day )

  • Great Grandpa Herman ran shine back in the forties on a motorcycle. He got caught in these here North Carolina mtns and spent, i beleive two years in a chain gang. Great grandpa has sinced moved on, when my grandpa was only a kid. Stories he told me about my first cousins runnig it. The last popular moonshiner left i beleive is Junior Johnson, because popcorn went sometime a year or two ago, and Junior ran shine in the fifties. Great Song.

  • my old man made shine in italy with his dad but they called it grappa my mom is from hazard kentucky and moonshine ran deep in her veins , keepin the tradition alive northcoast california ...cheers

  • nothing like running a still

  • Popcorn Sutton (RIP) was a moonshiner. Damn good one too.

  • I love it! Thanks for the recipe!!

  • my uncles and dad were makein moon long before i was a smile on my old mans face

  • Moon shine is as American as apple pie. someone was buying and drinking all that moonshine besides the moonshine makers, think about that.

  • @Guibanjolinman.... great version of a great song. I like the touch you put on it. That faggoty little prick Tinklespud or whatever his name is just another punkass kid that goes around trashing people.

  • Thankyou....As for Tinklespod..I don't mind being told if something is wrong...there's a few comments about my mistakes with the lyrics ( Big Block Dodge etc), but there's no real need to be rude..

  • @guibanjolinman Great version man. Your singing is excellent, and the song is great.

  • @guibanjolinman Great song and you did a good job on it!

  • @guibanjolinman Your take on this ain't just a cover; this is better than that by far! Love both versions, you got a lot o' talent for singing! Keep on rockin' and God bless ye! Hope you all have a Merry Christmas too, yah know it's tomorrow, eh?

  • @overkilljoybassguy shithot version my friend,well done!!

  • Sorry you didn't like it...!

Thankyou for the advice, I will take onboard your very helpful and constructive criticism in any future projects.

  • Uh, mrtinklespooted, i'd like to see you try this. This guy is the closest to Steve Earle and he adds his one touch to it. You post your version, and then i'll trash you. He worked hard on this.

  • @mrtinklespooted1

    Asswipe.

  • @mrtinklespooted1 ID LIKE TO SEE YOU DO BETTER THUNBS UP IF YOU AGREE

  • Any big block will give you more power. Would have been better if it were a Hemi :(

  • Many people refer to ' a big black dodge'...

Most cover sing it that way...

It should be 'big block Dodge'. Refers to the engine design that gave more muscle..

  • good point

  • great song love the story

  • what part of uk iwas in the usaf near oxford 79-81 really loved it.

  • @mrmarkymark77

    Colchester, Essex

  • you do agreat job on this bro

  • johnson county fuck yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • you did a good job on the song but dont ever use this moonshine recipe it will kill your ass

  • One thing about the song is where it says the sheriff came round and heard his mother crying, and you could smell the whiskey burning down copperhead road. It seems to suggest something went wrong on the run and the car had crashed killing John's father and uncle on the run to Knoxville.

  • They were driving the car on shine instead of gas!!! Kinda like burning premium, only better.

  • There was a ripper of a vid by Steve Earle, using a bunch of actors and it looked like a type of Bonnie'n Clyde/ Missispi Burning mix but it was effective and told the story. What ever happened to it? Even showed the black dodge in the opening scene speeding down the dust road in the distance, getting closer.

  • good version hand some relly good pics.

  • nice to see ole "POPCORN" one more time R.I.P....popcorn we will miss ya!

  • @TheRednkjay check out the video tribute to popcorn sutton. it's to the song hell on wheels by brantley gilbert.

  • @TheRednkjay what the hell i didnt hear bout popcorn dieing?! i thought he was still runnin his shine when did he die

  • Not to bad.. only thing is its a big BLOCK Dodge not a big BLACK Dodge.

  • r.i.p. p sutton

    a true american

  • Great job! But you really aught to enable embedding, so folks can spread it around the web.

  • liked it, but it's "a big "Block" dodge" Thank you. have a nice day

  • Yes Sorry.....Just downloaded lyrics...People will notice I get quite a few of the lyrics wrong.....That's what you get for trying to get them from the Steve Earle track.

  • popcorn as a good man,,,, i dont understand why .the g man made a big deal over a little shine ... it ant like we have prob like meth or maybe JOBS the gov needs to work a little harder on the real problem .. like JOBS JOBS JOBS..

  • GOD BLESS POPCORN SUTTON. The last great moonshiner

  • those ignorant ass sons of bitches treated him like a goddamned common criminal when all he did was make something one can buy in the fucking store. Yeah busting him really qualifies the BATFE as "heros". Possibly they should write themselves up for a commendation for the apprehension of this dangerous "criminal"... This crossed the line between enforcing the spirit of the law vs. enforcing the letter of the law.

Keep on cookin Popcorn up there you won't have to worry about this type of law

  • Sound like Home!

    In Them Apalachion Hills!

    Deo Vindice!

  • Heavens Yes! Thank Ya Kindly!

    Deo Vindice!

  • I want this version on a CD!

  • Great respect was given to Pop-Corn, leading with his picture in this video. The Up-loader know his shit & I thank him for not ruining a great upload, there was no other way to do it & be proper without Pop, being showcased first!
