Nice vid, but why not tell how it works? It's a simple process.
You can have 300 employees importing and distributing $5 hats, or 300 employees manufacturing $15 hats. If Bob has $15, then if he buys the $15 hat, he has a hat while 300 domestic are employed. If he buys the $5 hat, he has a hat plus $10, and still 300 domestic workers are employed. Trade makes a nation RICHER. Bob can then spend $10 at the butcher's, bakers, and candlestick makers, creating LOCAL jobs.
BTW, what I explained below is FREE TRADE, not "fairtrade" Fairtrade, an Orwellian term, is a cartel, where those with a contract with fairtrade make a local killing while other famers are shut out of the process. The only way to help everyone is through FREE TRADE where competition is allowed. Since when is it "fair" to not allow competition from other farmers not-so-well politically connected?
The King of Thailand presented the hilltribes with agricultural alternatives to opium growing, including coffee plants. One indigenous tribe known as the Akha was the beneficiary of this scheme. A Canadian chose to back the Akha people 100% in this venture. Thanks to to his generosity in giving the growers a 50% share in the Canadian company, 'Fair Trade' has since evolved into 'Beyond Fair Trade'--a noteworthy business model to emulate in terms of sustainability and sound ethics-P. I have just become familiar with the remarkable DOI CHAANG coffee from Thailand (thank you Robert) which is not only top quality but pays the people twice Fairtrade prices and gave the Akha people 50% of the Canadian company..P.Pachecos, Calgary Alberta
Expertly made video - appealing to the emotional aspect whilst clearly demonstrating what Fairtrade is about. One of our "Favourites" .
