Sad to think that the unkindness of other people and lack of respect for eachother causes shit like this to happen some of those neighborhoods used to be so decent, my friend lived there and now lives in florida and i moved from philadelphia and there are places like this and some are way worse, people get shot at in broad daylight over the dumbest things it's tragic, people start to put bars on windows and it just starts rolling down hill.
Sorry not a Dump someone throwing rock though windows and snowball at cars you A__ is part of the problem. Show me a area that isn't having problem. Sorry, but been here 31 years love, my home take dam good care of it and so do Most of my Awesome neighbors. Sorry this was ment for the rock thougher
Man, i grew up in Dayton, this looks just like Dayton. In live in NC now. Sad thing is, historical homes are very beautiful. I live in one now in a neighborhood that used to be run down just like that one, until people like me got smart, bought the property cheap, restored it and now have a huge home, PAID FOR, no mortgage. Unless these homes have irrepairable structural damage, i dont see any reason why these homes cannot be restored
Unfortunately, Dayton and Toledo have much in common and squalor is one similarity. The industrial base of both cities has been gutted during the past several decades. Toledo does have a competitive advantage with it's proximity to the Great Lakes shipping lanes.
I grew up in that neighborhood throwing rocks through windows & snowballs at cars while walking to Franklin & Waite. I never realized what a dump it was till I moved. Parents still live there so I have to go back every year. Gets worse every time.
Aid where my apartment building was in the 60s. The unit I lived in on fourth and Euclid and the old Franklin School. I also lived on Green wood in two places between Main and East Broadway.. It wasn't great in the 1970s....it's worse now.
I was raised on the East Side, just moved from 4th Street after living there for 10 yrs. Sadly, the East Side is just terrible. No side of town is great but some are better than others. At least now I don't have to worry as much about my children's safety and that of our home. However, I'll always be proud to be not only from there but also from Toledo!
The reason is simple. When the home owners are relying on tenants to pay the note then the tenants cant pay and wait as long as possible to move (until the courts get to there case) usually puts the owner 3-5 months behind. The owner obviously dosnt want to lost there house so what happens? Well this guys video shows you. And that rite aid has been there for 20 plus years. Franklin was supposed to be a school for learning disabled kids after all the east schools got rebuilt except Franklin.
A lot of the houses in this video are gone now and the one at the beginning is boarded up now too. Plus most of thew abandoned houses look a lot worse on the inside.
I HAD MY HEAVY ASS LEATHER COUCH STOLEN FROM MY ROOF DURING CONSTRUCTION. IT TOOK 4 OF US TO EVEN GET IT UP THE STEPS.. IF I WAS NOT IN TOLEDO, I WOULD HAVE BLAMED NINJAS.
if somebody wants to fix toledo, blow the fucking place up and build it again...if normal in this there re no normal people,,there re too many black guys and no matter where they go they fuck up the place...i dont know why but thats how it is in every country
I see a lot of lovely old houses in need to renovation. In fact, I found this video while researching Toledo. My husband and I like to save old houses and are thinking about moving to a new town. My concern is the way different races get along in different states. In Cali all races mix together with no problem. In Alabama I got called a "White Bitch" and threatened a lot. Do different race live side by side and get along or are they separate in Toledo?
I grew up in the East Side and I loved it! But the east side has always been run down and dangerous. I lived there for 18 years and then I moved to Florida for work. The problem is not the people, its the Democrate goverment thats keeping jobs from the area! Toledo has always been represented by democrtas! Get them life long politicians out of toledo and start over.
@shadeclark one, its not the democrats. two, they have kept jobs in Toledo through the teamster union here, and thee, if your going to bash democrats, learn to spell it right.
I love this Video But I Have been living in Nyc and I want to move To Toledo ohio again so where is it safe now in 2010 to Live in??? I lived there 4years ago, on Broadway st near Downtown toledo I assume thats the south side.....
@Vampira305 The suburbs are still a great place to live, but if you are talking about Toledo "proper", then your best bet is West Toledo and some areas of South Toledo (Glendale/Heatherdowns area). The East Side has gone to shit...
You should take your camera to Monroe St. and Detroit Ave. area or the south end off Airport Hwy, or the Old West End, or the north end. Typical Toledoan, dump on the eastside.
I would have to say Yes it is Degrading after the years but also you have to consider the facts the crime rate is sky rocketing out of control and i feel empathy for pathetic souls that get fulfillment out of public /and private property . plus i also see u did not decide to show the good parts of toledo i am offended by this video because i live off of oakdale and it is a great neighborhood !!!!!
Wade, what rock do you live underneath? There have been almost 100 vacant homes destroyed via arson in Toledo during 2010. Watch the Lagrange videos...siding is stripped off several homes.
The houses and the neighborhoods don't look too bad to me. I think abandoned houses are just part of rust belt city life. A lot of those houses appear to be in decent shape.
This is so very sad. I grew up there and was culture shocked when I saw so much apathy in housing. I say, let the arsonist burn up all those homes and have the city build parks. And IF the city would take away those properties, they could make more money.
THIS NEIGHBORHOOD IS NOT THAT BAD!!! Just bring in some gay men, some lesbians, some Mexicans (even illegals), some Indians, some Chinese, or some Muslims and this place will become prosperous!
i grew up on Utah off Navare... East side has been bad for a real long time but everytime i come back the neighborhoods are worse and the money is put into things like the 280 bridge that lights up at night... Clean up Toledo, and get the drug addicts and thugs outta there and you have a nice place to live... with potential... but as it sits now, no wonder theres a crackhouse on every street.
What do you expect with the number of critters of all races holing up in the east side?
These friggin' people rip off landlords as a way of life. When you have people that are too stupid to know where to throw their garbage you will have this.
"Landlords" ? You mean SLUMLORDS, who could care less about who they rent out their properties to as long as they get the cash. Owner occupied homes in East Toledo are well cared for in most instances. On every street in East Toledo you can tell which homes/apartments are owner occupied and the ones that aren't. Slumlords far outnumber the landlords who actually take care of their properties and keep an eye on what their tenants are doing.
@guetazul You are absolutely correct in your statement about landlords or slumlords. I cannot tell you how many arrests have been made, health code violations, or even lawsuits against some of these landlords have faced because of who they rent to. The housing court cannot keep up with so many of these people who have been violating the law!

i agree, the city should just knock the houses. 90% of the houses around there are empty or unhealthy to live in.
