In ancient times, things were different. For one thing, if one challenged the authority of any church or religion, there were dire consequences. Plus, the social stigma associated with the religion like "you failed God" and the ultimate judgement. So in contrast, "FEAR" may be to blame for many of the circumcisions of long ago and maybe even now. Being a more educated society, we do have a choice to weigh the medical, religious, and moral issues surround this topic.
The question is why is there so much talk about female circumcision when in fact NO WOMEN in USA are circumcised and until recently 90% of all USA boys are circumcised.
That looked so painful. I dont think I want them doing that to my son. I hate to let them take him. What got me was when they said it affects them psychologically. Smh. Not on my watch.
