  • That chuffing is not accurate. The engine should be chugging 4 times per wheel turn not 2. Nice engine though.

  • @TheTrainman888 I set the chuff rate to 2 because I personally like the sound of 2 chuffs. That's one of the great things about MTH engines is that they allow you to customize the chuff rate to your liking.

  • @esiegel76 I use HO and I have MTH. They are very nice engines.

  • @esiegel76 how do you customize chuffs

  • @pensyturbine It's in the DCS menu, under the sounds menu I believe.

  • how do you get the quillable whistle?

  • @TheGalligan It's a feature that comes with the engine and is triggered from the DCS remote.

  • @esiegel76 is the whistle button pressure sensitive or does it take a little messing around with?

  • @amtrak101 The remote has a click wheel that you turn to do the quilling whistle. It takes a bit of practice to get good at it.

  • iv got a mohawk i made a video of it

  • did the elaphent ears come with it never mind its in the video

  • did the elaphent ears come with it

  • is that o-54?

  • @TheGalligan I'm running it on O-72 in the video. But I think it will run on O-54

  • Hey Eric, I just ordered this puppy in the new tooling with the AAR box cars & caboose... Like I said a year ago, this is one of my dream engines and will be a proud addition to my fleet of motive power. I also picked up a very special display case just for it. Your vid help sell me on it...

  • Great locomotine. Mth is the best., and they are keeping their prices reasonable. Just bought a new premiere Big Boy. with proto 3.

  • Fantastic locomotive. I love MTH.

  • Have you ever hear of the vishion steam engines because the are amazing,I recomend the sana fe 3000 2-10-10-2 locomotive.

  • @railfan845 I didn't order the 2-10-10-2. I ordered the Vision UP Challenger and the 700E.

  • this is my favorite train you have :)

  • Is there any chance of you buying the Lionel Legacy PM 1225?

  • @726berkshire Probably not., but you never know.

  • @esiegel76 your gonna miss out on it

  • hey Eric. are you going to get an MTH engine W/ ProtoSound 3.0?

  • @noahnole Protosound 3.0 is what MTH uses in their HO engines. They use Protosound 2.0 in the O-Scale stuff. I've heard that MTH is coming out with a DCS upgrade sometime soon, but as far as I know there's no word on when that will happen.

  • @esiegel76 MTH has already integrated Protosound 3.0 in all of their Premier steam engines. MTH still has to integrate Protosound 3.0 into their Premier Diesel engines. Railking remains Protosound 2.0.

  • @Bassfanatic94 Yes, that's true

  • @HaloCE14 It was pretty funny how they saved one of the mohawks. When the New York Central switched to diesel they got rid of every steamer they had even the Hudsons. But the workers on the railroad loved the Mohawks so much they decided to hide it in a roundhouse behind a wall of boxes and believe it or not nobody noticed it. Then when time came to move it out without any trouble they did! I find it amazing that they did that.

  • Hey Eric. Would you recommend buying this engine in MTH's Railking line? They have it in their 2010 catalog and it looks pretty neat. What do you think?

  • @Bassfanatic94 Sure

  • beautiful sounding whistle!

  • Love it. Real Nice

  • lol the wreck sequence is funny. "i think i swallowed a lump of coal" :D lol!

  • @train2589 Yeah, it's funny.

  • @virginiarails855 Not yet.

  • Eric, please make a review on the Vision Line Santa Fe and the UP Challenger! I hope one day to save up enough money to get a quality MTH steam engine in their railking line. Do you still like MTH because it seems more and more that Lionel is really impressing you!

  • @virginiarails855 Yeah, I've ordered the big Santa Fe 2--10-10-2 as well as the UP Challenger.

  • Great review and layout. Be careful though, once you get hooked on the steam it's all over.

  • you do good reviews. This engine even has the ATC pickup shoe on the tender. Too bad I decided to model 1968-1971 era.

  • Hey, my layout is modern themed with no steam, but I decided to pick up a few steam engines anyway just for fun. Steam engines still get used today for tourist trains and so forth, so I may use it for that when my layout is done.

  • @esiegel76 steam is also used on the mainline as PR stunts and for mainline excursions.

  • This engine is amazing. the deatailing is grade A. I only wish it had railsounds. protosounds on steam locomotives just dosnt sound right to me.

  • hey eric can you make a video of it with the steam era.

  • Hey Eric can you make more videos of it just running i might get one as my first MTH Premier engine pleaSe make more run videos

    Thanks

    Matt

  • @Railroadtrip445 Matt, that would be sweet if you got an MTH steamer! They just came out with a C&O Kanawha (a.k.a. a Berkshire). I know you already have one, but this locomotive has a different look to it than your Berkshire. Check it out at their website. They also came out with another Mohawk and with roller bearings on the drive rods this time. If you do get one just make sure you have the DCS system because you can access a lot more controls than with the conventional transformer.

  • You should post more videos on this awesome engine.

  • I love that engine. its nice to see a beutiful steamer on a really nice layout like yours!

  • Very Nice Engine!!! Sounds great!

  • Hey Eric love the progress!! I have a BIG Favor to ask you- I am in the middle of doing a How to video on my tunnel and mountain. Before you finish all your mountain work- can you make an instructional video on your mountains and tunnels?- the best tunnels ive seen!! Plus you use some materials that i have never heard of and im curious how you did it- it will look good with your other instructional vids! Thanks a lot- Happy New Year!

  • I'm in the process of making that video right now.

  • Your the man- thanks!!

  • Don't thank me yet. The video will probably take a couple months to make because I'm going to show how to do a whole mountain side with tunnel.

  • great engine

  • Nice loco! I'm still debating whether or not to switch over to O from HO, but I definitely like O more, but I'm still deciding....

  • Do both. :)

  • Simply amazing Eric...everything you have done is beautiful! Nice Steamer too! I really like your weathering of the rolling stock as well.

  • Where did you buy it?

  • The Train Loft, in Winston-Salem, NC

  • Great video, beautiful engine. I got a Lionel 2055 and a Marx 333 for Christmas. I love the old steamers.

  • Excellent video. Ah, they skipped Elkhart between South Bend and Toledo

  • Beautiful engine. That camera makes a big difference in quality. Nice!

  • Mohawk one of my most favorite loco

  • Right on.

  • Eric, I love the steam engine. It a a beautiful piece of work. MTH does a great job. I got my first steam this year as well--the NW J Class #611. Your layout is looking great. I enjoyed your video.

  • Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.

  • Congrats on your first Steamer, Eric...thats another addiction in and of itself (R-2 on order)! Be careful...lol

  • Yeah, I'm gonna have to work hard to control myself.

  • Eric, Congrats on your first high-end steamer! I'm hoping mine will be a NKP Berkshire like 765, SP 4449, a Santa Fe Northern like 3751, or UP 844.

  • Nice review! Are you getting the CSX ES44DCs? When are you going to do another layout update as well? Happy Holidays.

  • Yes, I've ordered the CSX ES44's. I will probably do another layout update at the end January.

  • one more thing. Is the box car right behind the tender MTH premier or Atlas?

  • That's an Atlas car.

  • Ok thanks for the info!

  • Very nice looking engine!!! Great to see your getting into steam! :)

  • nice weathering on those covered hoppers

  • Mohawks are one of my favorite steamers...They look and sound really good and the model reflects that.

  • Nice engine!

  • i like lionel a lot better but i do have to say thats and pretty nice steam engine.

  • me too

  • Oh, I have a suggestion, get some New York Central passenger cars to go behind this mohawk (since it has Passenger Station Announcements).

  • I will probably get the pacemaker freight cars that go with this engine. I could have ordered the entire set with the 6 freight cars for just $100 more. What was I thinking?

  • I wish MTH would put in an option for freight or passenger sounds so you don't feel restricted. I have a 5-car set of New York Central heavyweights from K-Line (which look really nice).

  • Actually, this engine has a mixture of both freight and passenger sounds.

  • I was going to ask you earlier if you got the package or just the loco.... DOH !!!

  • Merry Christmas, Eric! New York Central is my favorite pre-Amtrak railroad. It's so cool how this steamer has the "early-bird" sounds when you start her up.

  • You picked an awesome engine to be your first steam engine....and I sit and drool........

  • That is so sweet!!! Looks like you have the same idea as me.

  • Great locomotive, big fan of NYC, and thank you for noting the rolling stock, I pointed that out to another youtuber and got banned from his channle! Hope you get some nice Pacemaker box cars to go with it.

  • Nice engine! Nice video! Have a Great holiday

  • Eric man, you picked up my dream there buddy... one day.... lol... They really did a great job with it. I didn't realize just how much add on detail they had, the catalog does not do them justice. I think I read you can swap between pass & freight sounds ??? Looks and sounds beautiful !!! 5 ***** & Fav'd... Wait till Rob sees it !!! Merry Christmas Bud !!!

  • yes rob WILL be jealous

  • Eric, that engine is sweet and your layout is comming along great. The detail on the walls and tunnel look awesome!
