I agree. This video is misleading and should not be an example of what to do. Someone far more educated should have been interviewed. My son is 30 months and 26lbs and will NOT be FF until he has reached the upmost RF limits for the GracoMyRide 65, 40 lbs. Why not encourage parents to be as safe as possible? Minimums are not good enough and, frankly, the 1 and 20 law is outdated and should be revised.
Children should stay rear facing until they reach the upper weight/height limit on their car seat. The minimums are NOT good enough. Once you do face them forward, keep them in a 5 point harness as long as possible...there are seats that can do this until 45-60 lbs. A seatbelt is NOT ENOUGH!
My 5yo (50lbs) is ff in a 5pt harness, and my 2yo (35lbs) is rf. We do not intend to move them anytime soon. Please keep your kids safe, keep them rf or harnessed as long as possible! It's worth the money!

look at all these ninnies cackling about whats right in wrong . damn the man is just stating the facts that he was taught. rear facing child until their two? get real. that poor child is probably gonna grow up sheltered and sissy .
Pretty good basic info. He didn't seem to differentiate that the tether strap is for FORWARD facing only--not rear facing. There are a handful of seats that RF tether, and that was not one of them.
Ugh!!! That's so annoying "once your child reaches age of 1 they have to face forward" NO THEY DON'T. And they shouldn't! The AAP recommends children RF to the limit of their seat, which should get most children to age 2 if not a lot more!!!
@cathwn well, they haven't changed, or tagged the video, i guess they don't mind if they're recommending things that kill/injure babies. sides, the overhead shield seats are nearly universally illegal now.
@cathwn The car-seat he was referring to was rated at 5-22 lbs (2-10kg). Typically over 1 year old your child will be heavier than 10kg. So if you want to keep your child RF until the limit "of your seat" and you have that purple seat, then 1 year is correct by your won logic.

My child rear faced till 3 and 2 months, she isn't a sheltered sissy.. plus it is our job as parents to shelter our kids and protect them.
the law is the minimum, my children deserve better than the minimum.

DD has just turned three and has just been turned ff as shes reached the rf limit of the seat.

My son is 13 months and only 17 lbs. Please don't say up to 1 year - you state yourself that the carseat says to 22 lbs.
Please get your facts straight.

your son is very small for being 13months. babies shouldtriple their birth weight by 1 year old.if full term.

To be fair, every child is different. My 6month old is 24lbs and his 17 month old brother is 26lbs.

AAP is now recommending that children stay rear facing until age 2. This was just changed in April.

@cathwn The video is from 2007. That would explain the 1 year and 20lbs statement.

good info, but it's actually recommended to rearface to that 30lb limit for rearfacing that the convertibles in canada have or 30-35lbs in the US.
and remember to harness as long as possible.
